Monday evening was the first time I attempted to purchase a lamp online. On their website. Nothing but annoyance with a Capital A. The site wouldn't let me purchase the item. And it would be better the following day the following day was yesterday. More of the same. ! Wish me luck I'm now gonna contact the store directly. I live in Queens. It's rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such warmth and enthusiasm. They also are having an insane sale at the moment! So the prices are just right.

Finally had the chance to stop into M&S years after seeing a story online about this magical place…read more For over 100 years they have been hand making fabric flowers here in NYC's garment district. They have a small Etsy shop but the factory has a massive selection that was shown with the utmost pride and enthusiasm by the staff who clearly take pride in the work they do. They offered to take any flower I selected and put it on a stick pin, hair clip, and other backing. I ended up with 3 and had them add stick pins to wear on my lapel. All 3 stunning. They also do custom flowers made from your own materials. Talk about meaningful sentimental gifts. I will surly be back!

A hidden gem! Prepare to get inspired! Whether you're a bride, a designer, a stylist, a DIY addict,…read moreor just someone who is in need of quality silk flowers, you MUST know about M & S Schmalberg! I found everyone there, including the owner, to be very friendly and extremely helpful, and the flower options are endless. I came here in September with a very specific floral design detail in mind for a designer dress I was wearing to an award ceremony. I had no idea what to expect, other than what I'd read from previous reviews on Yelp. When I arrived, I was directed to the back area where all the silk flowers are housed, organized by color and material in aisles of neatly stacked boxes. As I began to search and take it all in (with SO many flower options, it can be overwhelming), a woman immediately asked if I had any questions or needed help. She began pulling out boxes of flowers that I was interested in and told me to just leave them out--she'd put them away, no problem. As I came closer to finalizing my little floral design, I asked a few of the ladies if I could get their opinion. This is when it got fun! They were SO personable and helpful, and TOTAL EXPERTS on their floral-design craft! One of the women began to arrange my picked-out flowers into a beautiful design that was exactly what I wanted. Rather than try to recreate the design by myself, they told me they could bind it all together to ensure the wires of the flowers don't show and so I could just pin/sew the flowers right onto my dress. And so they did it in about 45 minutes! The cost for it all was about $125, which is a bit more than I had anticipated spending, but honestly, it was all worth it! They wrapped the thing up for me in a box to ensure it wouldn't get smushed and wished me a wonderful time at the event.

I chose a NY themed one as a souvenir, and, since my needlepoint knowledge begins and ends with what a canvas is, one of the staff very graciously helped me pick out threads to kit it. She showed me the right type of thread and helped me go color by color to match them to the art on the canvas, so the person I gifted it to could begin her project the moment she opened it. This was no cheap visit by any means, but definitely in line with most other places one can shop for this very expensive hobby. I will definitely go back if I'm in town again.

Note that I've previously stepped inside the shop to survey the selection, and last night I stopped in for what was only supposed to be a quick moment... The owner greeted me and almost immediately started talking prices. This is $20 dollars and we have that for $25 dollars, but this is a little more expensive, and that's this price. Oh, that fascinator is beautiful on you and you can put it layaway. It was just $79 dollars, mind you. Excuse me? It's such a turn-off when people see brown skin and assume that the purchase would be unaffordable without a payment plan! Not to mention, I started off by noting that I was only taking a quick peek on my way to pick up my Nordstrom purchase. Though I promptly told her that I don't need layaway and I pay for things outright, I had already decided that I wouldn't be buying from there. Her fixation on talking to me about price was all I needed to hear. Nothing disgusts me more than when people make assumptions! I have beautiful vintage hats in my collection, fine jewelry and quality costume jewelry, and beautiful bags that I've purchased abroad. She could've had a repeat customer who prioritizes quality goods and, more importantly, quality service.
