Loved this quaint historic market full of individual colourful chalets offering a wide variety of businesses, shoe cobblers to cheesemongers, fresh fish to spices, real ale to clothing, second hand books to haberdashery, and every type of cuisine you can crave. Unfortunately a lot of stalls were closed during our visit, hence the star off. While we made stops to buy cheese and bread, and drink some real ale, we decided on Hugo and Daughters, the spanish tapas bar for a late lunch. WOW! HUGO AND DAUGHTERS Transported back to Spain it was delightful to sit down after a long morning walking around the city and watch Hugo and his daughters prepare our lunch. We ordered too much, and we ate it all....lol...we just couldn't resist! First wine, always, tapas = wine :) Red and white glasses appeared quickly so we could sip and watch the kitchen performance and smell the heavenly fragrance of Spanish cooking. Potatoes Bravas - a firm fave and a good litmus test, a bowl full of potatoes slathered with a warming paprika based sauce, they passed the test 100% Meatballs - juicy and meaty in a savory sauce, yes please Salt cod croquettes - crisp shell with a soft oozing center of fishiness, delicious that had us licking our fingers Chorizo - unusual way to serve this dish, spicy and moreish Garlic shrimp - packed a garlicky punch with perfectly cooked shrimp with tail on cooked in sherry Calamari - the only dish we weren't sold on, a little rubbery and we weren't keen on the dipping sauce Smoked anchovies on tomato bread - wow, the fresh anchovies on top of sweet tomatoes made a really amazingly simple yet knock your socks off tapas. Hugo came out to talk to us and we raved about the smoked anchovies so he sold us a large pack of them so we could enjoy a taste of Spain at home. We had some great meals in Norwich and this was definitely one of the highlights. Cant believe we had such gourmet Spanish cuisine sitting in an alley in a market! read more

You see the famous stall tops on postcards, they just ARE Norwich. They sell so much here. My favourite is the second hand book stall and I know my grandmother would rather get her fish from here than the supermarket. read more

Norwich market, recently with its re-vamp must be one of the best markets in the country, it really does have everything from your shoe cobblers, to your discount Nike Airmax's! All the stall holders are happy & love to chat. The market is a great way to support local traders & is easier on the pocket, plus you can get your adrenilin going with a spot of haggling. Its easy to get lost amoungst the new green stalls but just stop to ask one of the stallholders and they are more than happy to help you out! read more

One of the biggest and in my opinion the best outdoor market in the UK, Norwich Market has recently been through an upgrade with walkways widened to make access for all much easier. Norwich Market has all your traditional stalls, from fruit and veg, haberdashery, fishmongers and flower stalls to the more specialist, including the wonderful Cheese stall and Pickerings sausages! Plenty of food stalls offer a range from traditional pie and chips with a mug of tea, to bacon butties for early morning workers, and chinese takeaway food for those wanting something a little different. The flower stall on the corner could not be more helpful, and the guy who fits watch batteries has been my saviour on many occasion when time stands still! No trip to Norwich would be complete without a visit to this colourful market - colourful in terms of its vision and its stallholders. Long may it last. read more

A landmark of the city with a recent modern upgrade. The colour scheme of different roof huts synonymous with the market was kept with the new build and added a clear glass rain protection feature. It's great to support local traders and often a bargain is able to be had. The ability to haggle is great and you'll meet some real characters. There's food from all sorts of style on offer from chip butties to Chinese. I truly is the heart of the city. The new mushroom burger stall (closest to the shops near the fish stalls) make a tasty vege alternative snack. read more

Norwich Market is a wonderful feature of the town, and stocks everything you could possibly think to sell at a market, all undercover which is good when the weather isn't good. The market sellers are often very friendly and chatty, and the products are often sold at much better value than in supermarkets. The only downside is, despite the map outside which locates all the stalls, it is quite difficult to navigate once you're inside the market if you have a specific stall in mind to visit. If not, wandering is all part of the experience. read more

Norwich Market is iconic, and has just had a bit of a makeover too. Its a fab, undercover market with EVERYTHING for sale! From fruit to fabric and all sorts in between, its well worth a visit. Only downside is that it is sometimes a little difficult to navigate as you easily get disorientated! read more

A fantastic little market, where it lacks in number of stalls (compared to the behemoth market of my native Leeds), it makes up with variety. There's delicious fresh fish and seafood (get the brown shrimp, £3 per pint and absolutely gorgeous). Three fruit and veg shops, one of which is organic and local, the other two selling a mixture of local, in season stuff, and the other usual stuff you expect from a green grocers. The wholefoods shop has an amazing array of spices and herbs, and the guy running it has a dark, molasses like humour which he unleashes as he mixes your custom bargain muesli. Check out the cheeseshop, the sausage shop, have mushy peas at the mushy peas stall. There's several world food stalls, books, literally everything you might need is probably somewhere within the crowded alleys. It's a fantastic centre-piece to Norwich and is a must-call for every trip I have to the centre. read more

I love this place, whenever I visit my Nan I like to try and get to the market here. It's busy and friendly and there are loads of book stalls which suits me down to the ground. It's quite a mixed market and quite large too like 150 stalls plus I'd say! It's set in a really nice big proper market square in the middle of the town, and it's on every day Monday to Saturday. One thing I find fascinating is that the market place AS a market place, is older than most of the buildings around it because there's been a market there for so long. There are also a few really nice looking buildings around it which makes it rather pleasant to sit and have a rest in between the bargain hunting and look around at what's there. read more

Reputed to be Europe's oldest covered market, the current iteration bears little resemblance to its medieval forebear. Bear baiting, cock fighting and gin guzzling has been replaced by bag stalls, secondhand books and DIY. Not to mention all the food stalls. Great fish caught fresh from the North Norfolk coast Recently refurbished and now undercover it's a good place to hang out when the rains come in, and a great reminder of what life used to be like before monolithic malls turned up. read more

Mere spitting distance over the Connecticut River from Hanover, NH, the Norwich Farmers' Market is just down the street from the King Arthur flour factory. I've been to a lot of farmers' markets and this one is quite good based just on sheer variety alone. At other markets you have your bread guy, your cheese lady, your crazy hunter with the elk meat, the loopy old flower person, etc. In contrast, Norwich has a whole bunch of booths offering many many things. The parking lot is a dirt lot with not many spots considering how many people go on weekend mornings. Improvise your spot as best you canthere's buying to be done! The booths are set very close together and with the crowds it can be a bit hard to squeeze by other folks in places. However, these are minor inconveniences and you simply won't care. Highly recommended is the Cobb Hill Cheese booth; it's wonderful, fresh Ascutney style cheese. Out of this world. Also check the various bakery counters because there are some great breads and pastries here. When you're done shopping, sit in the middle of the market with your kid and watch local musicans play that country-style music that I always expect to hear at these places. Prices, naturally, are what you'd expect for local homegrown organic handmade foods. It's all worth every penny. read more

I love Norwich market. It has fairly recently been redeveloped very well to look more modern, and still contains the fantastic variety of stalls that it always has. My personal favourite shops are the Yarn Shop, which sells an brilliant array of yarn, knitting and crochet equipment and patterns; the Rock Collection, with rock-punk clothing and accessories; and the various second hand book, CD and DVD stalls. There are also many food stalls, selling products including fresh fruit and veg, fish and chips and burgers as well as many others. read more

I dont usuallylike markets, but I love norwich market. there's a guide, which is handy for me as I rarely go there (despite being in the city several time a week). however, whenever i have gone there I have always found what I wanted, the product I wanted and usually been served with a smile. even on chilly days! there are 3 stall in partular that stand out for me - one is a butchers with super friendly and helpful staff (pauls?), the second is a florist at the front of the market with a great guy who works there, who helped me (being ever indecisive) to select some flowers for a photoshoot, and the third is the organic fruit and veg stall. all offer great service, great products, and great value.oh! and the chip stall! yum - who could forget that! i know scores of people who trek into the city for lunch once a week for a chip butty,and righty so because they are lush. the market is all undercover, so no worries about getting drenched. also close to most other shops and both the mall and chapelfield. greta market in a great location. read more

What a hive of activity. The layout is perfect. Fish and meats on the front. The seafood is always fresh and the market traders happy and helpful. Clothing always worth a look and the flowers are the best in town. read more

Good market. Some vacant stalls but otherwise a good selection of very different retail outlets, good footwear stall, excellent bread stall, and the mushy peas are superb. Nice to see it thriving unlike some other towns and cities. read more
