I recently moved from 1,100 sq foot apartment to a 4,000 sq foot home that requires every inch of it to be updated! I went to Norton paint today to buy samples because we are painting our whole house. I had the colors I wanted just wanted to see the sample. I had about 10 colors I wanted samples of and found 8 of them on my own so I asked if they could just help me find them on the wall. You would think I asked the gentlemen to give me his first born child. He tells me oh we don't do the designs I said I just need someone to find a specific color - he says we can't help with that. I can hardly believe it; I am finally down to the painting phase of my new house purchase after 9 months of renovation! I spent considerable time researching the quality of different paint offerings from the inexpensive to the very expensive and found myself to be drawn towards the Benjamin Moore line of paints. Although I consider myself an excellent general contractor in my time off from my real career in medical software, when it comes to coordinating paint colors throughout an entire home I am absolutely clueless. Color wheel? Color flow? High-energy colors? Low energy colors? I needed help! The interior designers at this location are excellent! Prior to settling on Norton paint as my supplier I had spent considerable time with other interior designers at other paint shops such as Sherwin Williams and never felt 100% confident with their recommendations and suggestions. The designer at Norton Paint worked with me through several considerations, and now that everything has been painted I can say everything is coordinated perfectly throughout the house. I highly recommend Norton paint for both the quality of Benjamin Moore product line and for the staff employed at this location. From the designers to the people behind the counter everyone is educated in their trade and extremely helpful and polite. I went to order wallpaper at this location. You have to make an appointment with Kim I think that's her name. She's the only one day n wallpapers. Anyway, I walked in and told her what I wanted. Because of Covid she asked that I wear gloves as well which I did. This woman handed me a few books and died nothing else. Never offered to help me choose the pattern I was looking for. When I gave her measurements she abruptly responded that she doesn't get involved with that. I understood but why do I have to make an appointment? You gave me a couple of books and walked away. I have always bought my wallpaper and all my Benjamin Moore paint here for over 35 years. Today I went in and bought a sample of a dark green exterior paint. The clod that worked with me was a horror he was plain stupid and arrogant. When I got home I realized he mixed semi gloss interior paint rather then the exterior paint for a front door that I requested. The paint is useless to me I'm sorry I didn't check the can before I got home to use it. What happened to Mr. Norton and all the old help, they cared and catered to people, sorry to say I won't be using them any longer they were always reliable. We purchased a home in Bergenfield this year and wanted to maintain the wallpaper look that was there. We are doing the house in Mid-Century Modern, and that period screams for wallpaper anyway, so we headed to Norton Paint to get some guidance. You are talking to a latex paint person here...never really dealt with this wallpaper thing. Norton Paint has a secret weapon in their arsenal of experts -- her name is Sue and she is a ball of energy, a patient guide, and she ended up being our Yoda. She took us through all of our options, and believe me when i tell you there were endless options. Once she honed in on what we liked, we jettisoned thru books and books and made some incredibly beautiful decisions. Pricing for wallpaper varies wildly, and she found less expensive options that still looked gorgeous. That's a talent in and of itself, but her fathomless knowledge of what she had on the shelves was mind-blowing. Her taste is impeccable; you can learn much from her. Next came paint selection, for the ceilings and trim work. The house had oil-based paint and we loved the richness and depth of it, so we opted for that. Out came the color wheels and in no time at all, we chose our paints. We are going back for our cordless blinds, and when it's time to paint the outside of the house, we are going right back to Norton's. Not only are we treated with respect and serious attention to our projects, but that whole team jumps in to lend their expertise when you need it. But it's Sue who will impress the hell out of you. She spearheads your projects like they are her own. She works the pricing so you can take advantage of multiple discounts, and you walk away feeling richer for knowing her. Thanks Norton's. Be aware of this guy named or self acclaimed RICK!! Have been purchasing paintings here the past a few weeks for our house renovation, and for the about 15 gallons purchased so far we've been offered the contractor's discount each time. But this Rick was an oddball. Not only he was reluctant to approach us at the counter and made us waiting for minutes while he was standing there doing nothing, but also only offered us 4 bucks discount from the regular price and lied to my face this was the only discount they have because they changed owner! When I offered a different opinion based on my past shoppings, he literally said: do me a favor and never come back! And he wrote down Frank as the owner's name asking me to confirm as if the owner would endorse his behavior! I don't think keeping an employee like Rick will do any good to the business. The reason I am writing this review is because the other 7 or 8 pleasant shopping experience prior to the one with Rick. I don't think the reason he gave me such a hard time was to try to earn more bucks for Frank, particularly when he was fully aware I was a repeated customer and have done many purchases recently with tall the same discount rate. I am wondering if he had ever offered a better discount than just 4 bucks to any other customer before??? If so, what he's done reminds me of racial discrimination, particularly the way he demanded me to never come back. Also, when I was shopping with my husband here before, a kind gentleman volunteered to carry some paintings for us to our car in a rainy night, but this Rick thrusted the three gallons to my 75-year old grandpa and said you were able to carry these right with some teasing tone!! I suggest everyone, especially Asian customers, do call before going to the store, ask if Rick is there. If unfortunately he is, ask exactly how much discount will be given, instead of just ok to give you a discount. read more

I always get the best service when I visit Norton's paint. My family has been coming here since they opened and I am always blown away with how friendly and knowledgeable everyone there is. I recently stopped by to get some paint and other supplies for a house project. The gentleman who helped us was great, very attentive and even carried my paint cans to the car for me. I enjoy the "mom and pop" feeling of this store, the intimacy of a small store makes the shopping experience more enjoyable than if I had gone to Home Depot or Lowes. I just bought a new home and wanted to try something new other than paint. I was lost and didn't know a thing about wallpaper but Sue at nortons was amazing. Are you kidding me? Norton's is THE go-to place since I was a little kid (I have grey hair now). OK, Mr. Norton passed away and we're on new owners, but they people know so MUCH about paint and wallpaper. I travel 10 miles to their store because they are just so helpful. I can't say anything about prices because I've never bought paint or wallpaper from anywhere else. Sue in Wallpaper worked with me to get what I needed faster than I expected, AND recommended a wallpaper guy (actually, the former owner of Norton's) who ended up painting for me as well. And some employee at the counter helped me understand the technique to get a perfect caulk line on my bathroom vanity top. (Hint: Use blue tape). Overall, Norton's is a great place, they have a lot in stock, but more valuable is their advice. They do a LOT more bsiness with professionals than homeowners and for good reason. read more

We just bought paint at nortons and when we brought it home the color was just not right. We brought it back and Andrew worked w me for over 30 minutes and multiple times back and forth to get it just right. They also recommended enhancements to make the paint perfect and wrote down a paint formula for future if we need to buy the paint again for touch ups. Went in 30 minutes later to pick up, and the counter guy said it was $46/gal, and there isn't any lady in the store that can quote prices. Wouldn't honor the price quoted on phone.
