Cute clothes, zero customer service…read more I have wanted to stop in here for a while. Today, as I drove by, a dress caught my eye. I turned around and decided to stop in. Super cute clothes, even a lovely selection of UV dresses and hats. I had a couple hundred dollars of product in my hands. I even asked to use the changing room. Yet no assistance. Not a hello, welcome, what are you looking for, simply no interaction with the two ladies in this portion of the shop. I even perused right next to the checkout. So, I put my stuff back and left. Thirty minutes I won't get back.

Offer to buy it for her. If you do buy it for her, you're on your way to being a hero. If you really want to be a hero, find one of the helpful ladies who cruise the store and have them put it aside for you, then secretly buy it to give it to her as a gift on a special occasion. You have no idea how many "Attaboy" credits that will give you, which you'll need this fall when you spend entire weekends watching football. Okay, seriously, this store finds the neatest merchandise for sale. I can pass on the clothing (and I do) but there is a wide variety of decorating accessories, crafty items and artworks, along with jewelry, impulse items, kitchen gadgets, and an interesting selection of wines. They also offer gourmet liquor$ of $everal varieties. Displays throughout the store are set in themes and the themes change often, meaning the layout is different almost every time you stop in. Out in the greenhouse, you'll find lots of plants and flowers. In season, they offer a wide selection of yard art and whirlygigs. Schroeder Gifts is located right on US 45 on the south side of Antigo, it's on the right side of the road when you're on your way back home (assuming you're going south). It's also the right (correct) side of the road when you're southbound, meaning you can slide back into the traffic flow. Schroeder Gifts is reminiscent of the shops in Cedarburg but all in one location. Stop in on your way to Upnorth or on your way home. Be prepared to spend more time here than you think it will because there is so much to see.

I needed 12 flower arrangements for an important event I was coming from out of town to Chicago to…read morehost last weekend. After an extensive search I was in despair over finding a designer who could provide flowers with the elegant, striking, luscious effect I was after. When my friend in Wausau heard of my flower woes, she offered to deliver from Randy's to Chicago. She had brought me to his shop, Evolutions in Design, when I visited her a couple of years ago, and his excellent taste stayed in my mind. So, thanks to my friend's generosity, I was able to relax and hand my flower problem over to Randy. I put my trust in his design sense. It was trust well-placed. The 12 arrangements were absolutely gorgeous, really breath-taking. They turned an austere, generic room into a place of warmth and beauty. The price was very fair for the richness of the arrangements I got. No skimping here, no fillers, just glorious flowers at their peak bloom. I never post reviews, but this was such a positive experience I had to pass on my recommendation. Thank you, Randy, thank you!

Isaac's is a great find in Wausau's river district…read more It has a boutique feel, but without the snotty attitude. It carries a selection of clothing and accessories that seem to have something for most styles. It's not a low-end store by any means, but for the type of store it is, coupled with being a local shop, Isaac's is a must visit even if it's only to browse. The handbags, from Bagallini were a surprise, though. It's hard to find that brand outside a travel-oriented store. Somewhere along the way, the knowledgeable employees managed to direct me to the reason I actually stopped in: the Crabtree & Evelyn and Thymes fragrance lines. Surprisingly, they not only carried a full line, they also had the newer ones. There were some of the discontinued ones on clearance. That's always nice.

Summer '08: I'm dropping my rating three stars because of a bad experience with them. Last summer…read moremy wife and I ordered a stone Japanese lantern to place near a Pagoda dogwood in our garden. The lady warned us that it might take a while because of the way the manufacturer does things. Summer turned to fall; fall to winter (which is awfully long here in Wisconsin but I digress). I called them because they couldn't pick up the phone and call me. I called twice and was told by a woman that it was on order. I asked when to expect it and was assured that it would be in about Mothers Day. Winter turned to spring (finally) and spring was in full force late in May. But I waited into June. I called twice and twice was told by a young woman that she would give the message to Al (the big cheese there). She said she would call back. Needless to say Al never called back. I decided to go in there, cancel my order and use my gift certificate for something else. I decided not to be angry. I told him that my calls hadn't been returned. He knew my name and so knew the situation. Despite all this there was not one single word that indicated remorse or an apology! If you go there never order something. Go to Home Depot where they deliver on their promises to order stuff. My old review: A plethora of plants, lawn ornaments, knick-knacks, lawn furniture packed into a relatively small location! They have a wide variety of stuff: kitsch to somewhat elegant. Fun to browse and check things out. The hired staff is friendly and helpful but stressed: I've been in there a number of times when there is a wait to get a staff member to help. For certain requests they seem to be required to talk to the owner, Al. Their plants look to be very well taken care of. Their parking lot is smallish.

Their staff is knowledgable and friendly, albeit sparse. You do have to seek them out, but when you find them, they are good. The best by far is Al, I'm assuming that he is the owner. He is tremendous and will take all the time you need to walk the grounds and help you pick out just the right solution for your needs. All of the local landscape designers direct their clients here - enough said. If you show up on a Saturday, expect to wait for assistance. The place is often packed, especially in spring and early summer. The quality of their trees, shrubs, and other plantings is tremendous. I don't really focus on price, as landscaping for me is a long term investment, so I don't know how they compare here. They have the largest selection in the area. If you have a specific need that they don't stock, they usually can get it ordered and delivered within a week or two. I have done this a number of times, all with good success. I have used them for four phases of our home landscape design, done professionally by Susie Murphy of Landscape Solutions (recommended). We started in 2008 and will finish in 2013. Window Box quality has remained strong during this time. If you prefer searching through the parking lot nurseries of Menards, Home Depot, Walmart, etc. then please stay there. It will help keep the crowds down here.

District No 3 is a super interesting place located steps from the Nueske's store…read more In fact, they own it - and the building used to be a schoolhouse and the municipal building. You can even see the old safe, a potbellied stove and a jail cell in the back. We learned all of this from the delightful staffer, who also had homemade cookies set out! So that was pretty awesome. The shop itself is about 50% "antiques" (mostly Victorian era glassware), with the rest split between gifty stuff and alpaca merchandise. Now, you might think that's odd but Nueske's owns a herd of alpaca (why not?) and this the store sells alpaca socks, slippers and wonderfully soft woven blankets.
