One of my favorite things is their amazing selection of fresh fruits. They regularly carry hard-to-find favorites like Thai mangoes, mangosteen, lychees, longan, and many other Asian fruits that can be difficult to find elsewhere. I'm also impressed with their seafood department. It's generally very clean, well-maintained, and doesn't have the strong fishy odor you sometimes notice in other seafood markets, which makes shopping there much more pleasant. I have some places that I like to go there for food, like the Cheesecake Factory and PF Changs. My daughter likes that there's a Claire's, and all the other Claire's around that we know are now closed. They have unique places when it comes to luxury brands, plenty of parking, but in peak season time can get difficult to find a parking close to the entrance. It has such a strong local vibe and it is cool to see a mix of smaller vendors alongside some more well known food spots. That said there are a few things worth noting. First, seating can be a challenge. There is plenty of outdoor seating but not much indoors. The day we went it was pretty hot and sitting outside was not the most enjoyable experience at times. Second, I fully support spending money at local businesses but the tipping culture here felt a bit excessive. I bought a bag of coffee beans with no drink and was prompted for a tip. I spent $45 for 12 pieces of chocolates at Oban Chocolatier and was asked for a tip there too. Same thing when I spent about $25 on four cookies at Gideon's Bakehouse. I am happy to support but it started to feel like a lot in a not enjoyable way. Third, the hours between vendors can be a bit awkward. We came around brunch time which worked for some spots but others were not open yet. For example, Domu does not open until dinner (5PM) and Gyukatsu Rose was not opening until later in the afternoon (3 PM) Overall, I think this is a great place to check out especially if you enjoy trying a variety of local spots. Just plan ahead for seating and timing and be prepared for lots of tip prompts along the way.

I like the Victoria's Secret shop here, comfy and affordable for the name brand. I remember coming here to the Nike shop to get work shoes years ago too. I've spent many summer days walking around the open air mall. Window shopping, shopping for school, then shopping for work. It's still a pastime with my family.

Maybe it's because I'm older now, but I find the whole experience much more exhausting than I remember. It's incredibly hot, and it feels like everything has been engineered around getting you to spend money. Want to sit down somewhere? It seems like you need to be eating, drinking, shopping, or otherwise spending money to have access to a comfortable place to sit. Sometimes I just want to sit for a few minutes, enjoy the scenery, people-watch, and take a break without having to buy something. I don't care what age you are. Sometimes you just need somewhere to sit. The food was decent, but honestly, I can find good food in plenty of other places without having to navigate the whole parking situation, walk through security, and then spend money every time I turn around. The constant retail focus and pressure to spend money just doesn't create a particularly relaxed environment for me anymore. What's funny is that I remember coming here when I was 27 and being completely blown away by it. Back then, I thought Downtown Disney was incredible. I even spent a few nights going to the clubs, and those nights were absolutely epic and fun. I have some great memories from that time. But today, the experience feels different to me. Everything seems so carefully designed to extract another dollar from you that it starts to feel almost mercenary. There's nothing wrong with a business wanting to make money, but when the commercial aspect becomes so noticeable that it affects your ability to simply relax and enjoy being there, it changes the experience. I think I've reached a point where I'd rather spend my time somewhere with a lower-stress atmosphere. I want to go somewhere, walk around, enjoy the scenery, sit down when I feel like it, and have a good time without constantly feeling like every basic comfort comes with a price tag. Maybe it's me getting older. Maybe it's Disney Springs changing. Maybe it's both. But these days, I'd rather spend my money somewhere that makes me feel like a guest instead of a walking wallet.
