I absolutely adored my stay here. There's nothing more I love than a boutique hotel. I had the almost amazing stay. The Artisan is in a prime location. Within walking distance to restaurants and shops. The staff was so nice and personable. I felt welcomed. The Artisan is super charming. Very clean. I stayed in the junior suite which is the equivalent of a small apartment. Came with a workspace and a living room. The room was inviting. Gave the vibe of a farmhouse bed and breakfast. Is that even a thing? Tons of natural sunlight. The sofa was plush. The hardwood was the original flooring. Oozed home. The bed was extremely comfortable. I wasn't able to get near it without wanting to take a nap. The bathroom was spacious. Like if you want to feel like you're at a getaway in the countryside this is it. I thoroughly enjoyed just lounging in my room. There was 1 con though, the shower curtain had mold at the bottom. They have daily turndown service. Which is a PLUS because this is not something a lot of hotels, especially chains do anymore. There is a restaurant downstairs. But you won't be burdened by them. I read reviews about the rooms smelling of food but that was not my experience. But the food was terrific. There is also a bar downstairs so you wont even have to the premises for much. There is parking attached to the hotel, they will give you a pass to park for the duration of your stay. read more

This is my favorite place to stay in Deland. The building is in historic downtown and you can walk everywhere. The hotel is charmingly decorated and very clean. The rooms are set up with a separate sitting and sleeping area. There is even a robe and slippers for you to relax in. They have a small restaurant onsite, however, there are lots of local places in walking range. The employees are friendly, the beds are comfy and the location great. If your staying here give this little hotel a try. read more

If we could give this hotel less than a zero, I would. We had a reservation on Monday. There were barely any cars in the parking lot. We entered the dark hotel to a reception area that looked as if it was an old lawyer's desk with recycled chairs. The lights were out everywhere and there was just a light on the desk. A lady that looked like Lily Munster from the Munster's family greeted us. She was nice enough. Told us that the restaurant was closed and gave us a code for the door should we want to come back past 9pm. As there would not be anyone manning the front desk and the hotel would be locked up. She gave us a room on the second floor and directed us to the elevator. The hallway to the elevator was unlight (fire hazard) and very dark with construction at the end of it. Very creepy! Upon opening the door the air smelled musty and moldy. There was a portable air conditioner running and a dirty vent next to it. The room appears to look like the pictures except everything is tired and worn. It all looks very used up. The bed looked nice and it was turned down. But, The small sofa had a spider crawling in it and I just could not stand the strong smell of mildew. We decided not to stay here because I am extremely allergic to mold. When we talked to the receptionist, she asked if we wanted to see the rooms on the 3rd floor which had regular air conditioning. We opted to leave. The pictures of this hotel are NOT an accurate portrayal. The truth is that everything is used up and smelly. If you are ok with that: book. Otherwise, any roadside hotel would be better and cleaner. read more

Stayed in the corner junior suite on the top floor with a view of downtown. Nice view. We stayed in the historic Artisan Downtown in DeLand this weekend (June 23-25, 2023) and absolutely loved it. The room was gorgeous, and the entire hotel was very well kept up. Easy walking distance to everything. Empanadas in the attached Chicas Cuban Cafe and drinks in the Lounge were wonderful. Service was very friendly. The shower had really good water pressure. We will definitely stay here again! read more

Super nice, smooth check-in. Rooms are super, super clean, and beds are a dream. A/c is off the chain nice and cold. Only complain is that, the smell of cuban food from the restaurant downstairs, permeates throughout hotel and gets on your hair, clothes, etc. Hotel is haunted. Had encounters everyday, to include a man in his 40s, watching me shower. Someone kicked my bed twice and knocked something i travel everywhere with, clearly off the chair. Other than that,the other spirits are friendlies. Downtown is haunted, too. I'm an empath. Saw them in broad daylight appear solid as a living only to disappear before your eyes. read more

Due to my profession, I'm on the road, in lodging quite a bit. Particularly this state. I don't except the moon and the stars laid out on a red carpet in a hotel I paid less than $100 for. I'm a reasonable woman:) Though man, I don't think people in the service industry realize how little that dollar amount should matter when it comes to what level of quality customer service they put out. When I checked in they put me in the wrong room type. The woman at the front desk fixed this issue, but only after telling me that Booking.com had their room types on photos mixed up. I had paid for an Executive Suite, and according to her, that's what she put me in, that the room photos on booking were actually of a downgraded room. I said they need to inform Booking.com them because that's not ok. I get settled in the room she put me in, but let me say, this "executive suite (according to Booking.com) is not as big as they advertise. Once again though, at this point I have no idea what this executive suite truly looks like. It was cold here, and of course the heater fight work in the room. I was freezing for hours. When she came to try and fix it, she could not. She then stated that she could...give me an extra blanket. No way. I'm not staying in this freezing room, that is smaller than advertised. So I tell her I can not stay in a freezing room all night, she wasn't exactly excelling in her politeness at this point, but she obliged. She put me back on the third floor, in a heated room, thank goodness. The next morning, I'm getting ready, getting my stuff together, and I hear the maintenance man and the cleaning woman speaking. They preceded to stand outside my room for like an hour, and at one point loudly say, is she gone yet? It wasn't even check out time!! Once again, BEFORE checkout, the cleaning woman knocks and opens my door! I'm like, ummm yes? I WILL be leaving join specified check out time. She walks out and lurks until I leave. I'm very saddened that this is how my experience was. I was really hoping for more quality in what they put out for customer service. read more

This boutique hotel is a class act! The rooms are suite style, with a separate living space (desk & chair, couch, small coffee table, TV) from the bedroom & bathroom. I'm sure this proves especially nice in the situation where one person wants to sleep while the other prefers to stay up & work or watch the tube. The rooms & hotel itself are exceptionally well-kept & clean. This is where I have to brag on the sweet housekeeper (yes, it's a small hotel--there's only one.) The pillows were too flat for my liking so, after our first night, I found her in the hallway & asked if she could give us two additional ones. She promptly brought me to a large hallway storage closet, opened a huge Rubbermaid bin and unwrapped a brand new pillow. She made me feel it for firmness and I happily agreed that it was perfect. When I later returned to our freshened room, two of those new pillows were fluffed nicely on the bed. In passing, I had also asked her to refresh the complimentary water bottles in the room and she left double the bottles. In addition, both the restaurant manager (Jason) and hotel proprietor (Sara) went out of their way to make our stay a very pleasant one. It's little touches like this that can really make a brief stay in an unfamiliar place very memorable. DeLand may be quaint but, if I ever find myself there again, I'll check availability at the Artisan! **Regarding photos, I'm with other Yelpers--no need to post any additional. This was a delightful stop as we traveled through Florida. Check-in was easy and welcoming. The Artisan was clean, nicely decorated, cozy bed, with a sofa in adjacent sitting room. Just what we needed. Downtown Deland within walking distance was a plus, but we ended up eating at the Cuban restaurant adjacent to the hotel and had a super delicious meal. Ended the night at the hotel bar with live music. Deducted a star for the smell of Cuban food in the morning. But not a reason not to stay here. Great experience! read more

The great thing is there are so many wonderful restaurants, shops, and bars within blocks that we didn't have to drive at all. I visit DeLand once a month for work and was incredibly lucky to stay at this wonderful hotel. The hotel is on main street, which is very convenient if you want to stroll and see what DeLand has to offer. The staff downstairs for check in/out were incredibly helpful during the entire stay- even when there was a slight mix up with the reservation. I loved that I got an actual key as opposed to a card, it felt like I lived in a small apartment for a few nights. The decor was historic and chic, definitely a lovely "home" feel. It was quiet in the evenings and mornings- the bed was so comfortable! Definitely will be staying here again in the future, if you're in town I would recommend Artisan Downtown a million times. read more

Very friendly staff. Ask for a room that's not on the main street, otherwise it could get loud - bring earplugs or ask for some. Really good rooms, incredibly convenient location for Deland. I'd gladly go back. They serve minimal breakfast (instant oatmeal, some fruits), but it's something if you just need a quick something to hold you over. read more

Not a bad place, HUGE ROOMS! Worth checking out if you want a nicer boutique hotel in Deland. Staff is extremely friendly and really value customer service. They also have a very big parking area. A lot of the services they offer such as parking Wi-Fi two flatscreen televisions in the room all free. Walking distance to many restaurants and pubs. The location is fantastic! The rooms are very cute and clean! There are only 8 rooms so it is quite small. We would definitely stay here again because its probably the nicest hotel / motel in Deland. Only a few things to note that we weren't thrilled about. The bathroom is large, but there is zero counter space. Makes it tough to do makeup, shave or anything. Walls are quite thin so if someone is in room next to you, you can hear everything. We were also disappointed that there is no good coffee available in the room or hotel. read more

My husband & I arrived in DeLand after midnight and this small town was basically shut down besides this club down the street that seems to cater to college kids. The Artisan is a very nice family owned establishment. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I would have slept through the night but the walls were thin and hollow that I can hear my neighbors snoring, talking, & even making whoopee. Just bring some headphones to listen to some soothing music or earplugs. The owner and staff are friendly and this is DeLand's best kept secret. By the way no need for me to take pictures the pictures posted on Yelp are accurate and are not misleading. It looks just like the pictures. Surprising I know but true. read more

A restaurant that I will never go to again. The bartender was rude and has no customer service skills. Followed us out of the room when I was trying to find out when the kitchen closes. Quaint, small Inn with 8 suites (2 rooms + bathroom). Historic building but rooms are very updated/modern, comfortable, clean, bright! Very friendly staff too! The on-premise bar/lounge has a pianist who's wonderful & the restaurant is upscale-looking yet decent prices. I hate to recommend this hotel as I'd hate for them to be booked-up when I want to visit again!! Perfect for single travelers or couples. The only potential 'con' here was the bathroom ceiling fan/vent automatically comes up with the light-switch, so after awhile the constant fan noise might get annoying & you can't hear tv/radio while it's on, but other than that, it's a 100% Hit!!!! read more

We were in town for Stetson parents weekend. The hotel is centrally located so if you like to walk most restaurants and campus aren't too far away. We checked in and the a/c in our room wasn't working too well. We called the front desk and within moments they had us moved to another room. We had a drink in the lounge and Hope, the bartender was friendly and creative. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. Our room had a great rain shower head with perfect water pressure. Our room was freshly renovated, very clean, and nicely decorated. We'd stay there again without a doubt. read more

our 50th anniversary. dec 23rd- we checked the 'top 10 best restaurants in volusia county'. not impressed with any, in the mix was sunny's bbq, so much for their opinions! it occurred to us there is a gem right here in our town! opened in june the owner jason has an extensive background in the restaurant business here locally. very nice moderately priced menu. we had a few light meals there in the past. impressed me that the food was not like the typical junk that comes off the back of a sysco truck! we made the right choice!!! wife had a bacon wrapped filet ($20) the best marsala sauce we ever had, on the side. fresh asparagus (waitress even asked us how we wanted it cooked). parmesan mashed potatoes. ordered the steak medium, came way too rare, sent back, second time still too rare, 3rd time manager brought it back, cooked medium--he apologized profusely. even after all this the potatoes & asparagus were hot! i admit if they were cold i was going to tell them to dump this & start over or bring back the menu for a try at something else. the best filet i ever tasted! marsala sauce to kill for! asparagus was a perfect al dante. when the bill came there was a $6 no charge for our choice of dessert to go. the waitress said "don't leave yet, we have something else for you" the manager came with a gift card for $20 dollars!! what a way to do business! customer appreciation like this is why we refuse to eat at chain restaurants! the best food, best treatment & service we ever had in volusia county in 25 years of living here! try it! you will be impressed! frogger.*. & jan read more

My first time at this hotel and first visit to DeLand. Here for a meeting at Stetson, and found the hotel on Stetson's visitor's site on their webpage. The Artisan looked to be the most interesting of the hotels listed, and it did not disappoint. A historic building on the main street, downtown and within walking distance to Stetson and many unique shops and restaurants. Thoroughly modern, luxurious rooms. I stayed in a two-room suite, with tasteful décor, comfortable bed with super-soft, high thread count sheets, soft lighting, flat-screen TVs, great bathroom with generous amenities. A welcome bag with juices, fruit, and granola bars. Immaculately clean. The welcoming innkeeper was very knowledgeable about the area and gave me great recommendations (which I followed) for a wine bar and a restaurant. She said that the hotel is expanding, and I look forward to seeing the developments on a return visit. I will definitely stay here when I come back to DeLand, and I wholeheartedly recommend the hotel others looking for special experience rather than a chain hotel on the outskirts of town. read more
