Then, then eye surgeon then let me know how unhappy he wast that I made him wait to do the surgery after 5 PM & didn't even apologize after being told tgat it was the business office that delayed this emergency eye surgery for 4 hours! 2. This year tried to make my usual annual eye appointment 4 different times & each time based on answer message advice to leave message & phone, the clinic would return my call ASAP. I never got a call back, so on 5th call to make appointment, I just waited on line for what seemed like an hour before a real person came on & made the "earliest" appointment for 3 months later!

Since second grade I've had glasses and later, contacts. I am 72 and had cataracts, astigmatism and I was near and far sighted. When I look now through my old glasses I get knocked on my a**. I'm an artist so this was inconvenient at the very least. My coke-bottle bottom glasses were wearing holes in the bridge of my nose. Dr. Skoog gave me surgery for cataracts, Medicare paid for it. At the same time I additionally had to get Toric lenses for astigmatism and they were $1100 per eye, totally worth it. Do you want to see, or don't you? Seeing is good. In case I was shaky or iffy about Dr. Skoog, my brother and some of his friends had had surgery with him. My sister-in-law researched him aggressively and found him superb.

Additionally the doctor spent a great deal of time discussing & answering all our concerns & questions. He wasn't too pushy in either direction but rather provided us extensive knowledge about both forms of treatment and the success rate of each. We came to the appointment because we were recommended for Vision Therapy by one of our normal family vision doctors but Dr Colburn explained in detail why that may not be the best route to take, we personally picked this clinic despite us being referred to another clinic because of the detailed expertise on their website and we were hoping to seek care from the best of the best no matter the distance of travel (we come from Moses Lake). He also explained the possible need for surgery with my son but not my daughter. He described all of the details of what that would entail and the success rate and potential final outcome from surgery. We felt he genuinely respected our wishes as he could see we weren't a fan of having to have my son undergo surgery. He did a great job educating us with all the knowledge we needed to make our own decision as a parent (my mom was there with us in place of my husband) and recommended we do followup appts for my son in 6 months and 1 year for my daughter unless we see a negative progression in their symptoms or challenges within in their learning abilities that may be (or may not be) from their vision challenges (Strabismus exotropia aka wandering eye). He elaborated on the extensive cost of Vision Therapy and explained that medical coverage doesnt cover the expense because there is no proven medical studies that support the success of it but also told me if we wanted to still pursue vision therapy treatment to certainly do that if we felt it was worth the chance it could make a difference. With that said although he said surgery for my son may potentially help my sons issue there was no guarantee which is why he said we can monitor the condition. We genuinely appreciated his knowledge and willingness to educate us and didnt just soley push surgery beings that was the only treatment he could provide. Lastly his staff was all very patient, knowledgeable and respected our time. We had to schedule two separate appts one for each kiddo that were 1hr apart but they didnt proceed in that manner. Both kids were examined carefully back to back and reviewed with care. They truly took their time with us and treated each kid accordingly. we were a bit nervous coming to the appt because of a couple negative reviews I seen on Google but our experience was awesome...nothing remotely close to some of the negative Google reviews I read. Im so glad I followed my instincts to schedule with this clinic oppose to the original one we were referred to in TriCities. I felt Dr Colburn truly cared and went above and beyond to give me all the background knowledge I needed to feel comfortable navigating and making my own parental decision now and going forward. If you or your kids are having vision limitations such as my kiddos I highly recommend you schedule an appt here. While we didnt get the prognosis we were expecting I think it was better because he educated us in all the treatments we could ultimately choose to pursue how we felt best necessary. When we originally began reviewing this issue 1yr ago with one of our home vision doctors it was dismissed and mis-diagnosed. When we seen a different doctor within the clinic he recommended the vision therapy. The 1yr lapse of time really had me frantic about the situation and feeling like I was racing against time to not fail my kids need for care. But knowledge is power and this appointment really allowed my concerns to be recognized but not be full of worry. I left there feeling like I finally found a good eye doctor. My wait was 45 minutes past my appointed time, but they had quite a few severely disabled folks being seen and that made them run behind. Seems to be the norm for the larger doctor's offices anyway, so it wasn't a big deal to me. You do have to have patience in these places. I got to watch TV while I waited so that helped pass the time. The facility was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. They have a high call volume and the lobby was quite full, so that told me they're quite busy which means: very good doctors!

Procedure: It took around 10 minutes or so, eyes fully numbed, then the Dr. pushed some kind of metal rings around my eyes to keep them open, that was awkward. At times I couldn't tell if my eyes were open or closed, as sometimes my vision went black (creepy). Couldn't feel the flaps being cut by the cold laser. When Dr. was pulling the flaps back, what I was seeing looked like it was going up and away from view, also vision was immediately very blurry while flaps were opened. During the laser sculpting, it smelled like burning hair, although no burning occurred. They say it's just a side effect of the laser reacting with molecules. Vision came back when flaps replaced. Could see everyone right away when I got up, but very blurry. Overall very happy I had this done. Keep your expectations in check, read all the fine print, etc. This is a life changing experience.

Dr. Ellis caught the double-vision right off the bat, and was able to give me a prescription for prism glasses that fully correct that, my astigmatism, and my near-sightedness. Her professionalism, kindness, patience, and knowledge, as well as that of her staff, was quite refreshing. She made sure my prescription was exactly what I needed, and even made the necessary adjustments a month later (commonly necessary with new prism lenses) without charging for the visit. Now I have my 3D vision back, and my double vision is gone! Alongside that, the office staff and opticians are all friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They worked with my insurance, and handled everything wonderfully. I cannot recommend Spokane Eye Clinic Valley more highly. This is apparently an emergent issue - I'm losing vision in my right eye, and now my left eye has begun showing symptoms. My referring optometrist sent the paperwork by fax in June 2026, it is now September 2026 and nothing has happened. When I call I reach the main office, I have spoken with several people including a gentleman named Thomas who is very helpful, but because this is an emergent case, I must be transferred to triage, every time I get transferred over to triage The girl tells me something different - first it was that they only have a cover sheet, although my physicians office has called each time to follow up and ensure that every page of the fax was received, and most recently she told me that the referral was now dated too far out and I needed new clinical paperwork. I've asked to speak to her supervisor and each time I've been put on hold and the call never goes through or is dropped. From what I've heard, Spokane Eye Clinic has gone drastically downhill recently and nobody is receiving their referral or any follow ups, so I'm not the only one. What a horribly disappointing experience to have. I guess it's no big deal, it's just my vision.
