She loves her teachers, has so much fun, and gets to have great experiences and enrichment when she is there. The teachers are so kind and communicative, and clearly care for the kids. Here's the info I wish I had when choosing a preschool…read more While I was dazzled at our tour with some lesson plans that incorporate learning about different cultures, the plans were overshadowed by antiquated teaching and classroom management methods--at best--and shocking lack of developmentally approapropriate strategies, at worst. As an educator, I can tell you with certainty that to call this preschool "montessori" is beyond misleading. The teachers are not montessori teachers. There is some opportunity for choice upon arrival, but that's about it. Not a dealbreaker for me, personally, but something to note. My 3, almost 4 year old, spent a lot of time doing worksheets on his own. We moved to a different preschool after a month and the differences were stark. Little Stars offered no intentional support for student social development. The kids didn't even introduce themselves by name in the first weeks, let alone receive guidane on how to initiate play with others. After 3 weeks at Little Stars, our son knew the name of only ONE student--and it's because that student got in trouble a lot (more on that in a minute). After his very first day at a new school, he was excited to talk about the FIVE students he played with, by name, and relay the ways the teachers taught the kids about community and friendship. At Little Stars, our son continued to come home without much to say. He knew we were excited about starting school. He didn't want to disappoint us. His teachers always commented that she wished the other kids were more like our kid...but whatever messages he was getting, were not positive ones... After a few weeks, he started to talk about the "bad kids"--despite the fact that we've distinguished bad kids from bad choices since the day he was born. I asked why he thought they were bad and he said it is because the teachers write their name on the board and then put lots of frowny faces next to them. (Is this 1975?!?!) I called Little Stars to ask for more context so I could navigate the nightly conversations. I certainly didn't feel better when they assured me they were only publicly shaming 3 of the preschoolers in the class. Apparently, this was a communication plan with families to manage behaviors...Any professional who works with this age group should understand that these methods are proven to be ineffective and even do more harm than good. His teacher was generally sour most days and there is a handful of other disappointments that will only make this longer. In summary, Little Stars is absolutely NOT a place we could keep our child since the goal was a warm environment to develop curiosity, community and love of learning. We've been delighted by two other preschools for my son and daughter where every day is full of learning, but also joy, community, curiosity, physicaly play, nurturing educators, social-emotional development, and nature. You've got to wonder how a place with a decade in business has so few reviews. Wish I had given more weight to that.

My child tends to be an observer at first--watching from a distance until they feel ready--but once they are comfortable, they truly blossom. The teachers here have guided that process so patiently. Now, my child loves going to school and speaks so fondly of their friends and teachers. A few highlights of our experience: The Staff: The Director, Ms. Alicia, is incredibly sweet. She knows every student by name and is always updated on my child's progress. She handles my many questions with such grace and kindness. 2 Year Old Class: Ms. Alyssia and Ms. Lisa are phenomenal. Handling potty training and the "terrible twos" is no small feat, yet they remain patient, professional, and caring. Communication: I love the daily updates in the "KidsNote." It's so helpful to see what my child is learning so we can talk about it at home. Seeing my child laughing with friends or being comforted by a teacher when I go for pickup gives me such peace of mind. Mayflower doesn't just teach academics. They teach children how to care for one another in a warm, loving environment. Highly recommended!

Our daughter had limited interaction with kids her age prior to enrolling here so our main goal initially was focused on her socialization. Ms. Shelby and the Children's House team have been so attentive with our daughter, from the first tour to everyday drop off and pick up. She has come such a long way in a short amount of time with her social skills, language, and behavior in new situations/around new people. We appreciate receiving updates in person, through the app, and through weekly class newsletters. The entire Hillsboro team has been welcoming from the start and we are grateful for the care and kindness they demonstrate consistently with our daughter and the community of families here. Sunny Hills is an amazing preschool. I feel so lucky to have both my children enrolled and been…read moreable to watch them both grow and thrive with the help of the Sunny Hills teachers. As an elementary educator I was very invested in my search for a great preschool. Prior to sunny hills we tried a play school where more of the focus was social. Although this was helpful, I found that some organized learning, group projects, and early learning skills were missing. Then along came sunny hills. Although nestled below a church, they teach kindness, not religious material. I have two kids who both have started at sunny hills. Both were shy to start and nervous about school. The teachers aided in them feeling safe and welcome and now both kids love going to school every morning. I will be honest. I am a total hover mom and Sunny Hills has impressed me every step along the way. They even helped me let go a little knowing my kids were always in good hands. Dropping your kids off somewhere you know they are cared for and safe is the best feeling. The cost of the preschool is so reasonable, especially for what you get. The school also does things like field trips, winter concerts, art shows and other activities to include the parents in. I cannot say enough nice things about the education and care that all three classes at sunny hills have given to my children and our family.

Activities are fun and build lots of new skills while being developmentally appropriate. The teacher:child ratio allows for individual attention. The school has a wonderful atmosphere and there is a lot of outdoor time no matter the weather. Teacher Millie runs the school and is the lead teacher for the preK class for the kids who will be entering kindergarten the following year. We love teacher Millie! She is kind, caring, dynamic, and so invested in each and every child. We had the unique experience of being able to interact with Millie and her preK class over Zoom sessions post Covid 19 closure of schools. Millie did three Zoom meetings a week and handled the experience with enthusiasm and AMAZING patience. It was a great way to stay connected with the school; to watch Millie keep the kids engaged over Zoom for at least 45 minutes each session was impressive! She often would stay on Zoom much longer with the kids who still wanted to interact with each other or have another story etc. Millie used the Oregon Zoo's animal spotlight videos as the focus of the lessons and the art project every meeting. All of the preK children seem so well prepared for their transition to kindergarten. Our daughter was in the younger class for the 19/20 schools year and will be going into Millie's class this fall and I'm so excited to watch our child grow with the class. Another bonus is that Sunny Hills has a summer camp program for 3-8 years old, so kids about to enter the school in the fall as well as kids who just graduated, plus their siblings, get to have more time at Sunny Hills! This is what we did with our daughter last summer leading up to her first regular school year in Julie's class. The school is located in their own area on the rear side of a church. The school also borders a smaller THPRD playground, field, and open area which are perfect for outdoor time. The location is a big plus! This school is a hidden gem and I feel so fortunate to have found Millie and Sunny Hills.
