Mini's is amazing and I whole heartedly recommend parents/grandparents/etc. to bring their newborn to 3 year olds for this weekly playgroup even if you don't plan on having your children attend the school. It's very relaxed and you can come to as many or as few playgroups as you want. We sing songs in German, read books, have playtime that includes fun activities and gym time, and more. It's a wonderful way for new moms to get out of the house in a controlled and clean environment. And I'm sure once the kids get a bit older, a great place to get some fun activities in without the mess at home. I've found it so helpful to get myself speaking more German at home to my little one and he LOVES going every week.

I am so happy to be out of this school after so many teachers would tell their students to shut up. Not a great experience. DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT 1 STAR REVIEW!!!…read more I'm also a student attending SSA and have been for 6 1/2 years, and in contrast to other student reviews, I really enjoy and would recommend my school. and "Whatever's T" is exaggerating! I cannot emphasize this enough. Sure, sometimes it gets a little hot outside, but both Upper and Lower school buildings have air conditioning and you can just stay inside if it really is too hot out for uniforms, and the colors at the Upper School are white/powder blue and khaki, not dark at all, if you just take off your navy sweater/blazer (depending on your grade). I could see this argument made for the Lower School because they have gray and navy with evergreen sweaters, but there's so much shade there. If I were going to give one piece of advice, get breathable shoes and thin socks for summer. Your feet do get kinda hot in black shoes and socks, but other than that, the uniform is a bonus, not a bad thing. Uniforms really efficiently take away worrying about what people think you're wearing, and needing to spend all that time choosing every morning. Yes. I find my teachers have high standards, as they should. Yes, they're strict, but not the bad kind. Your teachers have to be strict to get an average student SAT score be 1320! (Compared to 1045 at a normal public school) On the average day, if you haven't forgotten anything, you just have a ton of fun with the teachers! Sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming if you get a lot of homework in one day, but then you realize that half of it isn't due until next week, and you can make good progress without having to shut yourself up in your room for four hours. The only time you do need to do that is if you forgot about a big project and it's due tomorrow. In that case, that's on you, not how strict the teachers are! The workload is actually very light. On Latin- Sure, it's a dead language, but it makes you feel really reverent to be speaking, reading, and memorizing the way people actually spoke in the Biblical eras and History lessons. Also, you'd be surprised how much it will help with all the Romance languages, Spanish included, and you start in 4th grade and can choose not to take Adv. Latin in 8th. For the public school questions, almost all of us are Christian (Catholic included) and have some core beliefs that we don't think are being upheld correctly in the public school system and curriculum. That's why the school is here - freedom of choice. Certainly people can do great wherever they are. We are saying "bad things" like we disagree, not like we think they are evil. Parents, if you love your kids' mental, spiritual, emotional, etc. etc. etc. health, then Do, from the deepest depths of my soul, Do take them to SSA. I love my teachers, my peers, and my upperclassmen. I really look up to them and love to hang out with them. The class ratio is 1:10 which means I know all of my teachers well - even some I don't have classes with. The ratio means that I have been with roughly ~13 of the same 27 kids every year since I started in 2nd grade, and I recognize that in that 27 there are a lot of different opinions, theological beliefs, and backgrounds, which means we all need to learn how to handle those differences. Ex. My friends and I are currently debating Calvinism vs. Arminianism, Infant baptism, and sprinkling. (An example of what SSA kids do for fun :) ) I'm able to go to any of my teachers and ask for advice, even on things in my own life, not just school and I trust them so much. My parents and I are also really good friends with the families of many of the kids from across the grades, not just my grade, due to the House System. (Yes, Harry Potter!) All of the grades are divided into four houses (Essex, Milan, Castile, and Capet) which really help mix grades, and allow you to hang out, have a place in the school, and just get a time to goof off during competitions for the house cup. All this to say, DO, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO SEND YOUR KIDS TO ST. STEPHENS ACADEMY. (P.S. When they do come, Essex is the best House. -Totally Unbiased Source....)

The teachers are super strict and not the good kind of strict, the bad kind. The only reason why I like this place is seeing specific people here. The curriculum is HORRIBLE! No one wants to learn Latin. It's a dead language like what the heck! All the homework is very stressful and really drians out your energy whoch could affect your mental health. Parents, if you love your kid's mental health,don't take them here. They say bad things about public schools but not all public schools are bad. Read the public school reviews, most of them are saying good things about the school.

My verdict: either mismanaged or malicious…read more Our son attended Sunshine Montessori Preschool for a year. We looked past a few red flags because our son seemed satisfied with his experience. Then, just six weeks before his third birthday, we were informed that he did not have a spot in the three-year-old classroom and that his spot in the two-year-old classroom had been given to a child on the waitlist. Yes, you read that correctly: Our son was forced out of this preschool without justification, and we were given six weeks to find new childcare accommodations at a time when most providers have six-month waitlists! After asking around, it became clear that this situation is by no means common for childcare providers. I won't get into the other red flags we identified because frankly, they pale in comparison to this infraction. I have had some time to process everything, and it has left me split between two conclusions: either Sunshine Montessori is managed so poorly that they failed to continue to care for our son or, for reasons I can't comprehend, the leadership at Sunshine Montessori made a malicious decision not to continue to care for our son. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion. My only advice is to proceed with caution if you're considering leaving your child in the care of Sunshine Montessori Preschool. You too may be left scrambling to find a new provider on short notice.
