I've never had any camera instruction, and Mateo was able to cover a lot of ground for me. He listened to what I was seeking to improve, and after running through the basics, he targeted information to my requests, and showed me how to negotiate some of the situations about which I was most concerned- deck motion, long-range zoom clarity, and low light. Even just taking the time to set up and break down my travel tripod was a relief and gave me confidence. Parsing all of the info into chunks made it doable rather than overwhelming. Thanks, Mateo!

I had a big trip coming up and thought "hey, I should learn how to use my camera". I looked up…read morephoto classes on Yelp and My Photo Instructor came up. What an excellent class! I took a two hour private lesson with Mateo. He works out of a bright and airy shared space and we went over all the basics of the camera. You get to fill out a sheet so he can find out what level you are. He went over a lot of material in a very kind and instructive way, so personable and friendly. We went over Aperture, ISO and Shutter speed and even though I probably got every one of his questions wrong, he never made me feel bad about it. I would definitely recommend his classes and private lessons. If you're a beginner, want to brush up or enjoy learning more about photography, he can fine tune it to your level. He's a great professional and really knew his stuff. Mateo also provides great follow up and recommendations. You can tell he enjoyed the subject and wanted to share the knowledge.

The price of the classes are very fair. 2 stars if you're looking for a social environment to connect with likeminded people. Most of the people I've met have been somewhat abrasive, unfriendly, and like to boast about their rich husbands, vacation homes, etc. I've been taking classes here for 2 years and not made one friend so i stopped trying. That has nothing to do with mac directly but the culture could be a lot better. The thing I hate about Mac is their bathrooms. The doors swing in the wrong directions so it is very hard ti get into the stall without pressing up against the toilet, and I only weigh 150lbs. They need to switch the stall doors to swing outwards so it is not so hard to use the bathrooms. I

I've been coming here for over 20 years off and on. The rules have tightened up so it's not a " do your thing and the rest will follow" type of place. At holiday time (December) they have a sale that students are able to register for to sell their arts and crafts. One can also apply for scholarships to help with some expenses but, look it up well in advance of a class. There is a limited amount of them. Some classes fill up the first day of registration.
