Not fancy but very good comfort food. Ate lunch there today with my two teenagers. Good food, service and prices.

Quinte Restaurant - The fried seafood platter with a side of poutine. I had started eating.

Breakfast was just over so we were happy to order lunch. We chose the seafood platter that served fried cod, fried shrimp and fried scallops. The fried scallops were new to me as I have only had them pan seared. They were all tasty. The poutine I chose for the side was also delicious. The vegetable of the day? Not so much. They were green beens from a can. Now, I know some people don't mind them, but i detest them. It's a shame they were from a can. I would have preferred frozen. I also ordered the carrot cake. It was a huge slice and really tasty. The prices are pretty decent.

Wrote a review of the Quinte Restaurant:…read more We entered the restaurant to cheerful waitresses welcoming us in, the same as the Sirens calling Odysseus to his doom. We were quickly seated and the waitress scurried off to important waitress business, probably involving the dark web. The neighbouring table was discussing the slow service, so we started a timer to quantify the other table's concerns. At 9 minutes and 32 seconds, the waitress brought two small water rations and scurried off. Wish we had known the kitchen had a drought and no more water was available. At 15:44 the waitress delivered my wife's Caesar salad, which would appeal to 9 out of 10 bunnies. A few minutes later I got my lukewarm soup that was hastily prepared with watered-down stewed tomatoes to impersonate soup, then overcooked macaroni, and at its peak mushy blandness was added. Any prison would be proud to serve it. At 24:56 my veal parmigian was delivered, but not my wife's meal, which was brought 4:26 later. My meal was cold. The chilly veal was tasty about 10 minutes before it was served. The overcooked spaghetti was hiding in shame under a scoop of cold stewed tomatoes. The sauce looked like a poorly fitted toupee on a bald head. Zero for presentation. My wife could not eat her cold, overcooked spaghetti with the same brab-stewed tomatoes posing as a sauce on top. My wife was told they were out of garlic bread. They expected to eat the meal with no bread to act as a foil to the overcooked, tasteless spaghetti. I guess they were afraid it would add flavour. Again, zero for presentation. There are front-line war zones that are dining better. This meal reminded me of when Mom was away and Dad cooked with all the interest of a prison guard. The waitress never came to the table to offer more water or ask how the meal was. She was probably busy putting the meals in the fridge before serving.

Was in town for a business trip and was recommended by a friend that went to Queen's to check out…read moreGreco's for dinner. We came as a group of 6 on a Thursday evening and thank goodness we had a reservation, because oh my it was busy! Greco' seems to primarily be a Greek restaurant that also serves Italian dishes. FOOD (3.5/5) I ordered a Spanakopita as a starter and the Double Souvlaki Platter as my entree. The spanakopita came cut in half and the puff pastry was really flaky (and messy!). The filling was good but could've had more to better balance the amount of pastry. My colleague ordered the Zucchini starter which is a bowl of battered and deep fried zucchini slices served with tzatziki on the side. It came piping hot and borderline burned our tongues, so be careful taking your first bites! The portion of this is huge and should definitely be shared. The Double Souvlaki Platter has 2 portions (skewers sans the skewer) of souvlaki, Greek salad, rice, potatoes, and tzatziki. Super classic dish and I think it delivered in most aspects. The meat was well cooked, salad was nicely dressed, and rice and potatoes were seasoned with a bit of lemon. DRINKS (4/5) To end the meal I ordered an espresso which came with a mini almond cookie. I was pleasantly surprised that the espresso was nicely extracted, good crema from a dark chocolatey bean. SERVICE (4/5) Our server Norm was very friendly and joked around with us a lot. One of my colleagues had to order and leave early, and they brought their food out very timely. There however were some minor inconveniences such as missing cutlery and a colleague's salad was not dressed at all. They can split cheques and accept Amex. VALUE (4/5) A starter, entree (with leftovers), and espresso came out to be $40 which in my opinion is great value. Of course this is with a Toronto POV, so I'm not entirely sure how this stacks up against the local Kingston area. AMBIENCE (2/5) The front portion has a few booth seats and feels more like a pub with the bar along the side. The backside of the restaurant is a bit more spacious but has the cozy ambience of a mom and pop restaurant. LOCATION (5/5) From my understanding of Downtown Kingston, Grecos is right on THE main street Princess St and has street parking and a few lots around the area. Don't think it gets any better in location in Kingston. OVERALL (3.5/5) The doorway had several award placards over the last few years and combined with the personal recommendation from a friend, I walked in with high expectations. I think the food and service was good, especially for the value, but did not feel like I walked away amazed. Nonetheless, a good restaurant to check out if you're looking for a sit down Greek/Italian spot in Kingston.
