Avir At The Meadow - I just spotted this picture at the Meadows. To me this is evidence of a decent organization!

Several outstanding employees quit or got fired when the facility was sold to owners. Several key employees who had worked for the previous ownership and now retain their jobs under the new ownership, are people I now regard as dangerous. As of late 2025, my rating of this nursing home bottomed out. I'm sorry to say the place is unacceptable. My brother WAS well and comfortable, but he has deteriorated after being abused and physically assaulted by a mentally ill roommate. The Facility lied to us about it. At 6 ft 2 in, my brother now weighs less than 130 pounds, and looks like he was just released from a Nazi concentration camp. The Director of Nursing looks me in the eye and declares he's fine.

The facility is clean, the food is satisfactory and adequate. Our family is grateful that our brother has a place there. He nearly lost his life due to careless medication management in a private assisted living facility in Hunt County where he stayed for 17 bleak months. That ended with an ambulance ride to the ER and 2 weeks in ICU due to bad medication management. In that process, our brother's cognitive faculties were so damaged that he qualified for Medicaid long term care. I'm sad about his medical status but the Meadows takes good care of him. I regret that Medicaid reimbursement rates are so stingy that life is not very diverting and interesting for Medicaid-dependent nursing home residents. Of course I have fears about the general trend in Medicaid reimbursement. But the Meadows does very well with the resources it has to work with. I'll pay special tribute to Mr.Bill, the loving heart and soul of the place! He's not in management nor is he a licensed professional therapist or anything, but he is all over that facility doing his best to ensure that spirits are high. He has been doing this for decades and I believe he truly is the house Angel.

Their specialized rehabilitation teaches the patient how to live life from a wheelchair. As terrible and as sad as an injury like this is, no one was in there moping. The positive energy that fills this hospital is amazing. It's truly incredible to see what a person can do with the right information. This rehabilitation center provides the patient with information that, while not hard, may have never been utilized. I give this place five stars because the staff, every one of them were sincere, positive, and accommodating. I have one exception. A doctor who seems to have fallen into a rut of repetition, unwilling to personalize his specific and unique authority. Dr. Lance Bruce. When questioned about a credible, however unique (to the patient) condition, he blew it off and was rather rude. I am not going to get into specifics, but my family has health care experience so we weren't just talking out of our respective you know whats. But since there is such minimal contact with this doctor, even if you are his patient, and since the real support comes from everyone else here, I still give this place an A+ for making such a terrible situation for someone into a manageable lifestyle. Family is also welcome at all times. Each patient has a weekly meeting about their progress in which their doctor, physical therapist, nurse, social worker, and family are in attendance.

After spending the past eight weeks after getting a total knee replacement at The Villages of Lake…read moreHighlands, I can honestly say that my experience has been exceptional. I don't usually write reviews, but the outstanding care and kindness I received from everyone on the staff deserve to be recognized. From the day I arrived, every single person treated me with compassion, respect, and genuine concern for my well-being. During my entire stay, I never encountered a single employee with a bad attitude. That alone says a great deal about the culture of this facility. There is a physician and a nurse practitioner who do rounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Both of them were never in a rush to listen to my concerns and issues with my recovery- and I had quite a few in the beginning. They even came to the PT area to make sure nobody was left out. That was truly amazing to me! The nursing staff provided excellent care and always made me feel safe and well looked after. Whenever I rang the bell in the painful stages of my recovery, someone showed up in a very timely fashion. Whenever they didn't, I knew it was because they were busy taking care of someone else, not because they didn't care. The physical therapy team was encouraging, knowledgeable, and truly invested in helping me recover and regain my strength. The housekeeping staff kept my private room spotless and comfortable, making it feel like a home rather than a medical facility. The kitchen staff went above and beyond to make sure I had meals I enjoyed. They were always accommodating and often prepared something extra when I needed it. It was clear that they genuinely cared about making my stay as pleasant as possible. I was also impressed by the administration and leadership. Whenever I needed something, they did everything they could to make it happen. Whether it was a special request or simply making sure I was comfortable, they always responded with kindness and professionalism. What stands out most about The Villages of Lake Highlands is the people. Every department--from administration and nursing to therapy, housekeeping, dietary services, and everyone working behind the scenes--works together with one goal: providing the best possible care for their residents. Their compassion, patience, and genuine love for the people they serve are evident every single day. Recovering away from home can be difficult, but the staff made me feel cared for, respected, and valued throughout my entire stay. They consistently went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. I am deeply grateful to everyone at Villages of Highland Park for their dedication, kindness, and exceptional care. I would wholeheartedly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place where residents are treated with dignity, compassion, and genuine concern. Thank you all for making such a positive difference during my recovery.
