Friendly, honest and surprisingly ethereal, they love the plants and what they do, and being in that sort of atmosphere is contagious. You would never guess that this nursery is on a busy street because when you walk in a sense of quiet and calm is apparent. I personally love walking around the aisles and looking at the bright colours of little cottage flowers like marigolds and petunias, and then looking at the exquisite orchids around the counter. There is something nice about a place that doesn't try to do too much. Plants on High isn't complicated: it is just about the flowers and the plants. It doesn't have a café because it doesn't need to, it doesn't have an enormous landscaping section because it doesn't need one. Firstly, just to confuse everyone, there are two former, but not used sites, that once housed various forms of cafes. The actual cafe is a little hidden, and sits within the organic produce market, and organic store. Around the chicken viewing area. Secondly, there are multiple gates or entrances to this place, so if you're meeting up with someone make sure you have the correct one. Secondly, there's a nursery in which to buy plants and seedlings, of just about every type you can imagine. Otherwise, you just kinda walk around at look at stuff. There are vegetable plots to be rented or leased or something, and that requires further investigation. If for nothing else, it's worth just having a look and exploring.

It's very clean, you feel underdressed when you go in, and it's just a wee bit more expensive than everywhere else. Having said that, it's nothing but quality within. At Lygon Street nursery you will find designer plants, mature fiddle lead figs without a spot on them and gorgeous, picture-perfect pots to boot. I popped in to find a Valentine's Day present for BAE (I say that, tongue-in-cheek) as he likes plants just as much as me. I spotted the most gorgeous chilli plants on the footpath out the front as I headed in and instantly knew that was the one - the perfect present, don't you think? The staff gave me some great tips to keep the little guy alive - they definitely know what they're talking about. While I didn't spot any succulents, I suspect they all lay out the back in the outdoor section, which I did not venture out to. All-in-all, a terrific nursery with absolutely perfect plants.

After a kaffir lime tree? Head to Northcote Nursery. Looking for fantastic quality bulbs or seeds? Ditto. Northcote Nursery also boasts an amazing selection of patio furniture, pots, compost and so on and is literally a one stop garden shop. You'll also find expert knowledge galore at this little Northcote gardening centre where staff are as knowledgable about what to do to remedy a struggling box hedge as they are about the best way to grow garlic and so on. That said, staff can come across as a little taciturn but unless you go to the garden centre expressly for a natter you probably won't notice. For everyone from gardening neophytes to those with decidedly green fingers, the Northcote Nursery is a real treat.

Disappointingly, the man behind the counter this morning at Northcote nursery was rude and disinterested. Kew Nursery is a really popular location for locals old and young in the Kew area. Everyone can appreciate beautiful plants and flowers, and everyone likes having a hot chocolate. While Kew Nursery may not have as broad a range of plants as other gardening centres like Bulleen Art and Garden, it does have really great vegetable section and some beautiful native shrubs and small trees. The staff are all really helpful but sometimes it can be hard to pin one down when its busy, that's the only problem I've had. I really like coming here because not only do I get to exhaust myself walking around and discovering some new species I previously hadn't seen, but I then get to head off into the café and enjoy a coffee and serve of eggs benedict ($13). Heaven.

The Jimmy Possum store is on Alexandra Parade, bordering Clifton Hill and serves as a showroom for domestic desire. The range of products is centred around their classic timber furniture range and extends to occasional furniture, soft furnishings, lamps, paintings, rugs, candles etc. Jimmy Possum designs include a high level of quality and warmth that makes the house look like a home and not a contrived gallery space. Their pieces are user friendly while still conveying relaxed luxury. I like this companies philosophy, they are "the "largest producer of furniture manufactured from recycled timbers" and also create furniture from new timbers sourced from commercial/sustainable forestry. Their philosophy comes with a jaw dropping price tag. Not gonna lie a gorgeous massive timber dining table will set you back around a cool $5000. Excuse me while I lie back and quietly lust after (recycled) wood.
