On Sunday morning, while my hankering is normally for a Bloody Mary and some granola, I instead craved fresh plants. It had been a long time since I visited Northroy Nursery and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. From the exterior it appears to be your basic nursery, primarily selling pots and soil however when you walk in you will find quirky cacti, hanging plants and succulents as far as the eye can see. But what is best about Northroy Nursery is their indoor plant section. I was very surprised to see an abundance of fiddle leaf figs (if you're not in the know, these are a very cool plant right about now), which are often very difficult to find in Melbourne. While these were quite small, they were retailing for an eye-boggling 20 clams! I had never seen them so cheap before! They also stocked a LOT of fruit salad plants, hanging plants and also moss for if/when you attempt a terrarium. If you're in the market for some good indoor plants, definitely stop boy Northroy.

After a kaffir lime tree? Head to Northcote Nursery. Looking for fantastic quality bulbs or seeds? Ditto. Northcote Nursery also boasts an amazing selection of patio furniture, pots, compost and so on and is literally a one stop garden shop. You'll also find expert knowledge galore at this little Northcote gardening centre where staff are as knowledgable about what to do to remedy a struggling box hedge as they are about the best way to grow garlic and so on. That said, staff can come across as a little taciturn but unless you go to the garden centre expressly for a natter you probably won't notice. For everyone from gardening neophytes to those with decidedly green fingers, the Northcote Nursery is a real treat.

Disappointingly, the man behind the counter this morning at Northcote nursery was rude and disinterested. I truly believe in supporting local businesses, but with that kind of unwelcoming and moody attitude and customer service, I'll now be heading to my local Bunnings where the staff are bright and cheerful, and the plants are much much cheaper.

Firstly, just to confuse everyone, there are two former, but not used sites, that once housed various forms of cafes. The actual cafe is a little hidden, and sits within the organic produce market, and organic store. Around the chicken viewing area. Secondly, there are multiple gates or entrances to this place, so if you're meeting up with someone make sure you have the correct one. Secondly, there's a nursery in which to buy plants and seedlings, of just about every type you can imagine. Otherwise, you just kinda walk around at look at stuff. There are vegetable plots to be rented or leased or something, and that requires further investigation. If for nothing else, it's worth just having a look and exploring.
