When the technician set up my service, it was only achieving ~9 Mbps. I contacted customer support and was told that if I wanted 20 Mbps, I would have to pay $20 more. I was not pleased, but agreed to pay the extra $20 per month. However, I still was not reaching speeds of more than 10-11 Mbps. I called customer support and they explained that sometimes in rural areas that is the best speed they can achieve. This was the second time I was promised something that wasn't true (#1 - bait and switch pricing scheme, #2 - promising a customer that you offer 20 Mbps in the area when you do not). I cancelled my service and returned my cable modem to Crosslake Communications within hours of installation. [Follow-up] Literally within 5 minutes of posting a negative Yelp review, I received a call from Pam at Crosslake Communications. She was gracious, conscientious and helpful. She was empathetic and apologetic. She has transformed my opinion of Crosslake Communications.

I told him I was on a time crunch, but he didn't care, he just kept repeating "it's part of the process, ma'am." Only then did they suddenly offer to cut my bill by MORE than half after years of overcharging me. They also told me to climb on my roof to remove equipment or face charges, then mailed me a box for gear I said I couldn't remove. Easy to pay a bill online, but canceling is made nearly impossible. I do not recommend DISH.

There is a tower a couple miles away and they put a little antenna on the outside of the house to hit the tower for internet. Pretty simple concept and it has worked for the last 7 years. The internet is fine when the weather is good. However, during and after large storms in the summer the internet could be out 1-2 days. This is a cabin so for mediocre internet was good enough since the price was right. But with technology changing and phones using wi-fi, web cams and my thermostat being tied to the internet I needed a more reliable option. So I started looking for a more reliable option and found a cable/phone company (wired) now offers internet to my location at a much faster speed. I had until recently been a customer with them since 2009, but will never go back to this company.
