My husband and I have lived here for 3 years now (it has gone downhill in the past year and a half) and we have to leave within a month because of a huge rent increase. And no, they will NOT negotiate the increase, which according to some of my neighbors, was close to 15%! There is zero loyalty to long-time reliable residents. Considering the location and the condition of the apartments, a 1BR should cost no more than $1400 a month; a 2BR no more than $1700 a month. Add in another $75 per month to your rent for water/sewer/trash and if you have pets, another $55 per pet along with an additional $500 added on to your security deposit. Check other rental sites; a comparison will show you just how overpriced these apartments are. These are some of the reasons you should not rent here: The area is going downhill fast due to the number of gangbangers (Blood LIne - they are tagging the sidewalks in front of Northglen now and the adjacent bike trail) and homeless people in the adjacent wash who are burglarizing apartments during the daytime (6 in the past 5 months - check crimespotter records) and cars and blatantly dealing and shooting up heroin. The leasing office recently rented an apartment to a registered sex offender, so background checks are obviously not done (again check public records). It is not safe here anymore even though the sheriff's office is right next door (with helicopter landing pad that is used very often). The trains blow whistles at all hours of the night, you hear sirens so often that you are numb to the sound, and the adjacent pizza bar is very loud at night (esp on weekends, when patrons use the parking lot to continue partying and Northglen's grounds for relieving themselves or parking illegally). The traffic noise from Magic Mountain Pkwy is horrific. Trash is everywhere -- large items are piled up around the bins so residents can't access the bins to throw out bags of garbage; nothing is done about it besides a chiding email telling residents to place their garbage in the bins (hello, it isn't just residents who are doing this). Because this is not a gated community, anyone can wander the grounds, breaking into cars, and drive in to dump garbage into the bins. Considering this location and the activity going on now, this complex should be gated and locked. The buildings are not insulated and have single-pane cheap windows - expect to pay a lot for cooling and heating ($200+ per month) - and that's on the first floor. This also means that you can hear all conversations and smell (cooking, cigarettes, etc) everything from your neighbor's apartment and from outside. Nothing is even (walls, floors, ceilings) in the apartments. The AC compressors are not maintained, blow out warm air, and suck up huge amounts of electricity. Despite requests for maintenance, we were told that it's normal for an AC to blow out 68-degree air (WHat?). There are a lot of smokers here (if you don't smoke, forget about opening your windows for fresh air) and a lot of dogs (poop everywhere, dogs on retractable leashes let all the way out, and some of the little dogs are vicious, snappy, and very loud!). The maintenance crew was recently changed and for the worst. We are lucky if there is one maintenance person on staff; Equity cut back. Speaking of staff, leasing agents are also being turned over like crazy and they have absolutely no idea as to what is going on. When we first moved here, we had one manager dedicated to just Northglen. But now (again cutbacks) he is dealing with two apartment complexes and has zero time to actually manage anything. It's frustrating. In the past year, we have received notices that a contractor needs to enter our apartment (and we get less than 24 hours' notice, which I think is illegal) and find out that they didn't do what they were supposed to do and either re-schedule (inconveniencing us again) or simply don't follow up. So who knows what these outside contractors are doing in our apartment when we aren't there? And Northglen uses a lot of outside contractors for various jobs - some of them look very shady indeed. Considering Northglen doesn't even do background checks on residents, what about these contractors? This wasn't like this when we moved here 3 years ago. Considering the location and condition of this property, do not rent here; you can do better elsewhere in the same area. Check other websites; you can rent a 2BR house in the area for less than what Northglen is currently charging for a 1BR apartment. Community. A diverse word, and yet for me community best describes Northglen. My definition of community is what we, as individuals (neighbors, friends, community managers and leaders), do collectively to assure the conditions within which we can all thrive and be happy and healthy. My purpose for writing today is primarily that the reviews are very much outdated, and not a true reflection of the community today. Additionally, as a resident, I want to use this as a platform to promote the community for others that share similar thoughts about a family oriented community. If you are looking for these qualities in a community, I highly recommend Northglen and look forward to having you as a neighbor. A brief backstory on how I came to reside in Northglen. I was recruited to Valencia and subsequently relocated from Kentucky. A 2,100 mile journey for an old-fashioned, southern gentleman. I was excited, yet overwhelmed by all the wonder that Southern California had to offer. I quickly zeroed in on Northglen as a community I could see myself living in before buying a home. I was extremely limited on the time I had to find a new residence. The staff at Northglen were more than accommodating, taking over two dozen pictures of the actual space that I would rent and sending them by email for me to review. Although the office was closed on Sundays, I was greeted upon arrival by the community manager, who happily welcomed this clueless southern guy into the neighborhood. The team even prepared a welcome packet, filled with valuable information on the surroundings, such as grocery stores, department stores, the paseo trail system, and even what to do for fun and relaxation. To me, these little acts of kindness are important, and demonstrate how much the community values your presence. That was five years ago. I'm still a resident of Northglen in 2018, and I love being a member of the community. Although many familiar faces have changed, Christine and the staff are wonderful and easily approachable. They have demonstrated kindness and generosity to help my family that is above and beyond a cordial hello. My fellow residents are among some of my closest friends and confidants in Southern California. The Northglen team have truly cultivated a community in which I am happy to play an active role. Christine and team are devoted to our community, and have invested precious time into fostering an environment that inhabits a sense of care and joy. My personal heroes are ordinary people, just like those employed at Northglen. Individuals that are actively engaged in untangling the impossibly knotted complications of home life so that I can focus on my day to day instead of routine and special maintenance such as landscaping, A/C repair, or changing the air filters. The everyday actions of the staff at Northglen help me spend more time with my family, especially when maintenance requests are often done the same day. When requests are unable to be remedied immediately, I'm informed and kept abreast of any complications with a quantifiable timeline for resolution. I've never been dissatisfied with the maintenance or office staff support provided to my family. That is a testament to the commitment of the Northglen staff. From our family, a sincere thank you for all that you've done over the last 5 years, and all that you will do to make our lives just a little bit more manageable every day. I believe the greatest gift you can give is a healthy you, the foundation of which starts at home. I hope our Northglen community can be your hearth to foster a happy, healthy lifestyle. I've been waiting to write a review and it's time now. I've lived here for a little more than 2 years and will be leaving when my lease is up. Not only because the rents are way too high for the area and services, but because I do not feel safe here anymore. Just last week, my bicycle was stolen during the day (and yes, it was cabled and locked). Today, I chased a guy on a bicycle out of the complex because I caught him looking into first-floor windows and under stairs. There have been numerous break-ins during the day - both apartments and cars parked in the lot. Perhaps due to people presumably from the wash next to us are in our complex - they are casing apartments and digging through the garbage bins. A very simple solution would be to gate the complex, but THAT will never happen because all of this criminal activity is ignored by the leasing office here - not even acknowledged to warn residents or anything. Northglen is all about Da Money now - they don't care about the residents. Apparently the village is finally enforcing the code violations here because they are replacing rotted out stair railings - honestly, it shouldn't take a code violation notice to maintain a property. The buildings are very old - as are the appliances, A/C units (never maintained), and single-pane windows, some of which don't lock. Instead of addressing basic root problems, they paint everything over. Plasterboard is falling on cars parked under the buildings - even though I mentioned this to management, it's still happening 4 months later. Many residents don't bother parking under the buildings in their spots because of this. And the NOISE. Ugh. Constant traffic noise from Magic Mountain Parkway, the sirens, the train horns, the sheriff's helicopter landing pad, landscapers, Topper's Pizza late-night party people, and shrieking kids playing in the parking lot. The single-pane windows don't block any of it (or the heat or cold). I had to drop $400 on heavy drapes to make things tolerable. A lot of people smoke cigarettes here - it's supposed to be nonsmoking, but residents either sit in their bathrooms with the fan on and smoke (like my neighbor) or smoke right outside apartments. All of these problems do not justify the $2000 monthly rent for a 2-BR apartment. Also expect to pay $55 for each pet for "pet rent" and another $50-$75 a month for sewer/water/trash (this depends on how much water your neighbor in your building uses - you share the cost). The pool and Jacuzzi are nice - both usually clean. But on Sundays, when the office is closed, people who don't live here use both. Again, there are no security measures in place. I'll end with a few positive notes - it is nice having the bike path right next door along with the mall and library. And my neighbors (at least the ones who talk to other people) are nice. BUT. I cannot recommend living here until security measures are in place, basics are maintained, appliances and windows are updated, and rents fall by about $200-$300 a month. read more

I have been wanting to post a review about my experience in Northglen but wanted to wait until the day I didn't live here anymore. Why? Because I didn't want everyone to know that this is the best place on earth to live. I wanted to keep it a secret; because I was afraid it might attract too many people and my rent would go up even higher (supply and demand). But I could no longer keep to myself how great Christine is (and her staff). They deserve all the accolades. There are no words to describe Christine Bender, the property manager. She is extremely professional, yet kind and accommodating. Ever since I lost my house in Castaic, due to the financial crisis that exploded in 2008, I have had to move about 6 times. I have never met or encountered anyone like Christine Bender. She runs this place with the highest quality and standards that make you forget about how expensive rents are these days and how ugly the world is around us. I come home from a very stressful day (and stressful life) and I feel so at peace because the property is so well-kept by the staff and the neighbors are wonderful. Something not working properly in your apartment? No problem. Submit a request and within 24 hours, it's appropriately resolved. Thank you Christine. You are a gift to the residents at Northglen because you take care of everyone that lives here as if they were your own family. I love the neighbors, everyone is so friendly. I'm sure it has a lot to do with how happy they are to live here and it is definitely attributed to the Northglen staff and its beautiful apartments. read more

I moved to Northglen in 2018 with the plan to live there until I retired. I just recently bought a house and moved out. The positives about living there: proximity to the Valencia Town Center, Central Park. Downtown Newhall and just being located in the center of town. The community is quiet, clean and properly maintained. Some of the neighbors smoke marijuna and the smell of the smoke seeps through the air ducts but what can you do? The maintenance team is stellar and they make living there tolerable. I saved enough money working two jobs while living there to purchase a home and finally moved out. The negatives: most recently the property management team had been responsive and professional. I cannot say that was the case the entire time I resided there. I requested a new air conditioning unit for five years straight because the summers in my unit at Northglen were brutal. The air unit was never replaced although a couple of my surrounding neighbors did get new AC units. I'm happy for the new tenant of Apt. 618 because they will get a new AC unit and survive the Santa Clarita summers comfortably. That luxury was never given to me. All in all it served the purpose of allowing me to live in a fairly clean and safe environment until I bought a house and retired. I had some epic holiday parties there and I made some memories in my temporary abode. Now I'm in the backyard of my new home sipping coffee and enjoying the views. So long Northglen! read more

I have lived at Northglen almost 2 years and all I can say is that things have changed so much and for the better!!! I had so many issues when I first moved in from the moment I signed my lease and got my keys. The leasing consultant at the time dropped several balls on us. Luckily, there was another lady in the office at that time, Anna, that was able to fix most of it. Our unit was not cleaned very well, there were broken things that needed to be fixed and we didn't have air conditioning that worked very well- if at all. The turnover of employees in the leasing office, as well as people on the maintenance team was insane. The team they have right now is amazing! Caesar in maintenance not only gets things done right away, but he also gets them done right- the first time. He has even come to help us after hours when it has been an emergency situation. I had to call the leasing office the other day and I spoke to a gentleman by the name of Marcos, who I haven't spoken to before and he was AMAZING!!! So many things have changed for the better. I just wanted to put this out there because there are a lot of bad reviews about this apartment community and I want people to know that it has only gotten better here- not worse! read more
