Tanger Outlets Ottawa - 2 fave stores, then a quick purchase at Soft Moc

Tanger Outlets Ottawa

Went to Tanger Outlets Ottawa and honestly had a really good time…read more There's a ton of stores and I actually found stuff here I couldn't find online or at regular locations which surprised me. The deals were really good too Old Navy was solid as usual and even Lululemon had that 2 for $100 leggings thing. They have QR codes everywhere so you can just scan and join their rewards/app on the spot and get coupons while you shop which is kinda nice, didn't feel complicated. The vibe was cute too there's like a fire pit in the middle (even though it was sunny lol), music playing, and I swear I smelled mini donuts at one point with some bangers playing lol Also random tip but if you're signed up with Lindt you can get free chocolate bag for your birthday (and like up to 30 days after). Only thing is the food area is super small, like a couple spots, so don't expect a full food court. But honestly you won't really care because there's a lot to walk through. Would go back for sure.

Good selection of stores here. I am not a huge shopper unless I need something so I always go with…read morea purpose. The food court has 4 places to eat... nothing for me tho. Japanese, Subway, Greek... nah but the washrooms inside there are handy and clean. The stores I would normally go are Bath and Body Works for foaming soap and hand sanitizer.. love their candles too. Van Houte maybe for a rare treat. Tommy Hillfiger but nothing fits right as I have an athletic build so... I just look. I love Softmoc, I do have too many shoes and boots but that's allowed! My ultimate spot there is Chilly Chiles as I love hot food/sauces and the staff there are great. I love the kitchen store too but I have wayyyyy too much of that stuff as I love to cook and already have fancy glasses. Mid week is best to go for service and parking - weekends, I avoid.

Flock Boutique

So Flock Boutique is this cute little shop in my 'hood that sells cool indie Canadian brands and…read morealso Canadian brands that have made it big(ger). They have clothes by Jennifer Glasgow and Miik. They have soaps and body care by Purple Urchin. They also have jewelery by local designers and weird knick knacks like hand puppets of Canadian prime ministers, lol. So funky and weird! This store is more neat, clean and upscale-ish, a la "Yorkville" (Toronto reference) and not like Adorit in the Byward Market (that also carries local and Canadian designs, and some of the same brands, like Miik) which is more, a la "Kensington Market" (sorry, another Toronto reference), but meaning more bohemian and smelling of patchouli. Prices are high, but your getting good quality and supporting the Canadian market.

I will definitely be going back to this trendy boutique soon. I have been looking for a wedding…read moredress (something trendy and artistic and untraditional!) and I found several options here. The great thing about Flock Boutique is that the clothes are made by Canadian designers, the majority of which are women! They try to bring in lots of fashions from Ottawa and Montreal also, to be local. The accessories here are amazing! They have lots of colourful pins and earrings and some great bags! I really had to control myself, or I would have had an empty wallet when I came out. I did see several dress options, but was tight on time, so I couldn't try anything on. One of the girls working in the store patiently showed me several dresses and answered all my questions about the designers and the store. The people who work here clearly know what they are talking about. It is also great that so many of the designs are by Canadian women! For someone who wants to dress artistically, this is the perfect spot to shop.

Marshalls - Love the Clearance section!

Marshalls

So this Marshalls in Barrhaven opened up like 2 years ago in 2018, but I didn't even know it…read moreexisted until recently. When I first moved to Ottawa I lived in Nepean and went to Barrhaven all the time, but back then it was mostly fields, lol. So much development has happened since, but nowadays I am rarely ever in Barrhaven anymore. However, my husband and I were meeting some friends to check out a restaurant with a nice patio out in Barrhaven so we went a bit early to do some shopping...and what are my favourite stores?...Marshalls and Winners, of course (yes, we did them both, lol). So this Marshalls is in a newer plaza complex along with a Dollarama, the biggest Natural Food Pantry I've ever seen, an LCBO, Value Village, Costco and a few other businesses. I'm not crazy about the sprawling suburban plazas, where you have to drive to get from one section to another or you take your life in your own hands as you navigate the parking lots as a pedestrian, but I will endure them to shop at a Marshalls ;) So this Marshalls didn't have the best selection of merchandise. Yes, we are in the midst of the Covid Pandemic and I understand that they have supply chain issues, but compared to other Marshalls during the same time, I find this one rather lacking. I will need to go back when the Pandemic is over to see how it compares to other Marshalls locations during normal times (as my first visit was during the Pandemic). I liked that their Clearance Section was clearly marked, as this is always the first section that I shop ;) It's a big Marshalls so things are spread out and well organized, not like the tiny Urban Concept stores where everything is crammed together and organization is haphazard and weird. Like why is underwear right next to chips? Yes, I'm a city princess, but I hate "urban concept" stores! Anyway, if I'm in Barrhaven, I guarantee you I will go to this Marshalls, but I won't make a special trip to Barrhaven just to go to this Marshalls. Does that make sense? Lol.

Fashion 4 Women - They have rebranded to Fashion 4 Women Outlet. They used to be called The Wholesale Outlet.

Ok, The Wholesale Outlet is a strange little place. It's in what looks like a converted barn (!)…read moreThe parking lot (which it shares with The Apple Saddlery) is unpaved and full of potholes. When you go inside, everything is really messy and it looks like a warehouse. The back of the store is really poorly lit. So you would expect really low prices and great deals, right? Well, every clothing item hovers around the $100 mark. Now they do specialize in clothing from Canadian and European designers, and many of their items are made in Canada or in a European country, so yes, the quality is higher. However, with a name like "The Wholesale Outlet" I really was expecting lower prices. In my opinion, the majority of their items are rather dowdy, unless you are in your 8th decade of life, in which case, you would be considered a fashion plate if you wore these items. HOWEVER, if you have the time and patience to sort through their stuff, you will find some lovely gems. I have only ever purchased skirts here, and only in the clearance section at the back of the store, where everything is 50% off (but poorly lit and items are tightly packed together - my arms often hurt after pulling all the items apart to look at them on the racks). Now to give you an idea of my style, I love asymmetric hem lines, over-sized buttons, and superfluous zippers, so I'm a huge fan of the skirt styles from French, German and Scandinavian designers. The sizing of items here is a little strange. Yes, some are European sizes, but even that I found not to be consistent. I'm pretty much a North American size 2 (sometimes 0), so typically a European 36 or 38 and a UK/Australian 6 or 8. However, here I've tried on a "European 40" and a "Canadian 6" and couldn't zip up either item :P So the take home message is, if you like something, disregard the sizing, just eyeball it and if it looks like it might fit, try it on. If you are under 50 years old, you will likely be the youngest person in the store. The staff here are very nice and friendly. I don't come here often, but I will pop in once in a while to check things out.
