I have now been twice to this quaint restaurant and bar in Florence, Alabama. It is in a less crowded part of town, just a minute from the UNA campus. The menu is simple and straight forward, but special and creative! We have had the BEST service both times with Jennifer. She is an awesome ambassador for North Wood! We had the burgers on our last visit, and they were literally one of the best burgers we have eaten! Double smashed patty with thick bacon. Delicious!!!! Try it!!! read more

My wife and I live in Northern California and we're visiting Nashville and Muscle Shoals. A friend suggested North Wood Social and we met him and his wife at the restaurant. This quaint little restaurant tucked away in a corner of Florence. The location of the restaurant may be a little deceptive to some patrons, but what actually came out of the kitchen was extraordinary. Note: when this restaurant has a special on the menu - that should be your first choice. Rob McFarlane, owner/chef proved creative, innovative, and is well-versed in the culinary arts. Great brunch selections. Two kinds of quiche on special. My friends liked both, one veggie, one with prosciutto. I had smoked salmon on naan bread with Pickled onions, capers and tasty cream cheese. Really like this place. Bit small but that's not a big deal. Service was excellent, even though the guy running the bar was flying solo as the only front side help. The food was excellent. We got hamburgers and they were very good. The bacon on the burger was very good. The only critique I have is that the bun did not hold up to the patty and wound up being a very flat soggy mess, to the point where I discarded the bun and ate most of my burger with a fork. A better bun would have resulted in a five star review. I will be going back. read more

North Wood is the best new hidden gem of a bar in Florence! We're there at least every couple of weeks - the food is delicious and several menu items are Polish family recipes passed down to North Wood's owner. Drinks are awesome - Zayne (the bartender usually on duty) is knowledgeable and provides great service. What an absolute gem! Checked this awesome little place out while we were passing through Florence. Great selection of wines, beers, cocktails and food with a great Polish flavor. I had a dinner with girlfriends last night and it was one of the best meals! Started with great service by Jennifer (I think was her name?!). Well that was disappointing. I can give 1 star for a nice atmosphere. A well renovated space, esthetically and acoustically pleasing (background music wasn't too loud and I could easily hear the bartender and server... even though, combined, they didn't speak more than a dozen words to me my entire visit.). 1 star for Guinness on tap and properly poured. Since Northwood Social opened, I was anxious to give it a try. Florence is lacking in diversity when it comes to pubs and independent shops and restaurants (it feels like and I hope, that is changing, again that is why j was excited to try Northwood). I reviewed the menu (here on Yelp) before I went. The Rueben sandwich sounded really good. A Rueben and a Guiness, perfect dinner tonight. I arrived, sat at the bar, and was promptly provided a menu. Then it took about 5 minutes before the bartender asked if I would like a drink. Ordered my Guinness, got my Guinness, proceeded to drink my Guinness for the next 25 minutes and never asked if I wanted to order food, never asked how my beer was, basically ignored for 25 minutes. Even when my beer was empty it took about 3-5 minutes for the bartender to ask if I "wanted anything else". Not anymore....( I arrived at approximately 7pm I sipped my beer until about 7:30 and I paid my tab and left about 7:45. I am sitting here writing, still hungry, that is how strongly I feel about commenting on the service disconnect here). God! I guess I am old. I actually remember when service meant being attentive, and providing a pleasant experience to customers. As a server, you used to want to kinda figure out what will make each customers experience good. Some people want to be left alone, some people want to be engaged ... learn the difference. I don't mean to rant but this was my experience. Maybe for the younger customers they don't mind the lack of communication or interaction. Maybe I should have texted my order in. Sorry, just really disappointed. read more

We went here with friends over the holidays and literally tried everything on the menu. It was all amazing! The pierogis and borscht were my favorites but you really can't go wrong. Everyone loved the reuben too. Good wine selection, Guinness on tap, and I had the over underburg cocktail, which was also great. A unique, herby flavor. The whole place has a warm, cozy vibe, and there's a nice patio out back. We'll have to come back when the weather is nice and do that. If we lived closer, I think we'd be regulars. read more

One of my favorite spots in Florence. We travel frequently and no matter if we are in Chicago, California, New York, etc we always say NWS is wayyyyyyy better and the prices are incredible considering that they hand make everything on their menu.
