We used Select Sitters to find our nanny! I will say the process was stressful, but thankfully Kara and Select Sitters were there to help. I didn't realize it was such a cut throat nanny world in Raleigh. Kara would send over an average of two resumes a week, but those two candidates would also be heading out to other families so you had to move fast with a competitive offer if you were interested. I joked with my husband that we had to wine and dine these nanny candidates to get them to pick us. Since it's for such an important person it was a bit hectic trying to "rush" into a decision. We had a nanny booked and unfortunately she decided to stay with her current family longer and quit a week before her start date. That put us in a tough spot, but Kara was there to help. She had another resume or two to send over and thankfully had a wonderful fill in nanny we could use until we found a new nanny. We then hired another nanny and although I wasn't 100% I went with it and it was a disaster (trust your gut mamas). That nanny didn't last a week and luckily Kara and Select Sitters have a 90 day guarantee with nanny placements (so you don't have to pay a placement fee again). Boom, we had to start the process AGAIN. Kara sent over two more resumes and thankfully we finally found a wonderful nanny whom we love!! I think it is worth it to use a nanny service since they do all the background and reference checks for you. When you have a baby or a child at any age you just really don't have the free time to wade through a bunch of resumes with no background checks done yet. I also think the benefit of Select Sitters is that they have great fill in nannies if for some reason your nanny doesn't work out, or if your nanny is sick, or going on vacation. The con of the service is there are so many people looking for nannies and only a limited number of qualified nannies to go around. I think in my head I just thought I'd get like ten resumes at a time and be able to take my time picking a nanny. Finding a nanny is really like nanny dating since sometimes people look good on paper but when they show up they are just not a fit. I hope to never have to go on the nanny hunt again, but if I do, I'd definitely use Kara and Select Sitters again. I also thought their placement fee was quite reasonable compared to other agencies out there.
