I hired Stone Plumbing based on their positive reviews for several smaller jobs before they did a…read morefull replumb of my house. They are much more expensive than other companies, but I am okay with that in exchange for high-quality work and customer service. Things were good at first...until they weren't. Overall, I received substandard workmanship that resulted in flooding, thousands in damages, and a company that hides behind insurance adjusters rather than standing by their work. On Christmas Day, a kitchen faucet burst, flooding my first floor and basement. It turns out they screwed the water line to a drafty, single-pane basement window frame instead of structural framing (see photos). The pipe froze as a result of this foreseeable installation error, causing the flood. No one was home, so over $800 in water poured through the house before it was discovered. They made a low-ball offer to settle in exchange for signing a release of liability before turning it over to their insurer, who is refusing to pay for restoration costs, which approach $10,000 so far. Worse, the brand-new plumbing emits periodic loud noises that the company cannot diagnose or fix. One is a banging sound in the shower and the other sounds like a ship blowing its horn...except it comes from the wall behind a toilet. Other contractors also could not diagnose the problem, leaving me with new plumbing that sounds very old. I also paid them to fix a leak coming from a kitchen sink. When it continued to leak, they charged me again, saying it was a "different section" of the same pipe that was leaking. I was skeptical but paid again. Each time I had to open and close a wall to access the pipe. When it kept leaking, they said they would charge me a third time if it's yet another section of the pipe leaking. I hired them to diagnose and fix the leak, not engage in "trial and error plumbing," charging me each time until they got it right. Worst of all, the pipe continued leaking into my wall before I realized it wasn't fixed, likely causing mold and rot that I'll discover years from now. I should have been wary when the person I was working with suddenly left the company before completing the work they quoted me for. Now, I continue discovering shortcuts and mistakes their replacement made, and I suspect there are still more problems. I am not sure how my experience is so different from their online reviews. The sheer number of problems I've had is staggering; it's the kind of performance you expect from an unlicensed amateur, not a premium-priced professional. I will update this review if there are meaningful developments. But if you value your property, time, and money, I would proceed with caution when hiring this company.

When I asked for details for these additional costs he refused to provide a detailed breakdown of what charges went for what and what these so called extra parts were exactly. He told me flat out he will not provide me anymore details than the generic labor and miscellaneous parts. $1750 was the initial contract and got a bill for an additional $1100 which was never discussed with me. We had some discussion of some extra costs around $300/$400 which I can understand could happen but then the bill came way above what we ever discussed. When I brought it to his attention he stated it is what it is and that's what you owe me. He said he will not provide any further detailed billing breakdown and I owe it. He also stated he could care less about any online reviews because they mean nothing to him. I would never ever recommend them for any work. If so be ready to pay double the contracted quote and have surprise charges around every corner. I unfortunately had to learn from my mistake of hiring him for what was a job he said he did thousands of times. Also the way he treated his son who worked for him was appalling. The constant verbal abuse he used was beyond acceptable and I have video evidence of this from my security cameras on my property. Humes Plumbing is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a trade worker in my life. Use at your own risk and if you do get it in writing that the price won't almost double without your consent.

This company took advantage of my 80 year old mother. She and my cousin had called to ask a…read morequestion about her toilet's wax ring being changed Without her making an appointment with the owner, he calls and says he's twelve miles away and will be there shortly. He was 12 miles north near Hibbing working so he had a job in that area and decided to head home and pick up another job. He charged her $100 dollars for a 12 mile drive to her home, $100 dollars to drive from her home back to Duluth, and it took him about 3 hours to change a wax ring at $100/hour. During his visit, he used his phone to call others and discuss how this was the first time he had to pull the electrical cord out of the wall before working on a toilet along with other phone calls he made or received during this time. (Last time I remember, it took two hands to do plumbing work and you work much SLOWER when you're talking on your phone.) He then handed her a $500 bill and tried to sell her a new toilet. Her toilet is now not working properly since he changed the wax ring. A new wax ring should NOT affect the water flow into the tank. I t seems that he really WANTS TO SELL HER A NEW TOILET and took the measures necessary to do that. My mother does not remember making an appointment so he just showed up. She was actually waiting for a local plumber to get back to her about the job. This company seems like a predatory company that takes advantage of the elderly so watch out if you have elderly relatives that need plumbing work done.
