Our family was at North Shore for six years, and I cannot say enough about the quality of their services as well as the other important factors that help families navigate the often confusing world of addressing their children's needs. They are flexible, reasonable, understanding and willing to go out of their way to support the families who bring their children there. They have a truly integrated approach, which is so helpful for children who have multiple therapeutic needs. I have watched the practice expand for the past six years, and they have just been getting better and better. I strongly recommend them. read more

We signed up our 10 y/o son who has challenges dealing with change and with his confidence. We got a recommendation and we decided to give it a shot. It is very unfortunate that it did not work out. He had 4 sessions and we never got the promised assessment from his therapist. Additionally, the debriefs with the therapist were not helpful at all. Zero insights, zero assessments. We raised our concerns to management when the therapist gave notice that she was leaving and that someone else would take care of my son. You can only imagine my disappointment and dissatisfaction since we had signed up my kid due to challenges with change... Management did very little other than apologize and tell me that someone higher in the chain would reach out to me. That never happened. We reached out a couple more times and nothing. And we are yet to receive the assessment --it's been weeks now. The way I see it, they are having trouble retaining people and hiring replacements. Also, their management seems inexperienced on dealing with crisis such as this one and how to deal with dissatisfied patients. I'll go somewhere else to treat my child. Until they get their act together, this practice is not an option. read more

They have the worse billing center. It is not worth to get sessions there and have to deal with they disorganized system. I regret so much to have gone there and don't recommend to anyone. read more

Our son Marky began going to Northshore right before he turned 3yr old. We began seeing Colleen for OTin the Bucktown location because he was having major melt downs and anxiety in social settings. He would crying and cling to my husband and I relentlessly even when we were around familiar faces such as his grandparents. When my daughter was born he refused to make in type of interaction with her. He would scream and cry instead of using words to communicate. Once we began seeing Colleen she recommended we begin speech therapy to help with Marky's communication skills. From this point our pediatrician had requested we have Marky take a Neuro test because the melt downs especially in social settings were still very severe. We of course reached out to NSPT and they helped us by connecting us with Dr. Issacs, she was very kind understanding and helpful. Marky was officially diagnosed with moderate high functioning Autism. Our hearts were broken. Dr. Issacs recommended that Marky begin receiving a minimum of 10 hours a week of ABA therapy. We met with Jennifer and her team of therapist, to call them amazing is not enough. Our Marky has grown and blossomed in ways we never could have imagined. By the age of 4yrs old his melt downs were minimal and he was speaking in full sentences requesting and expressing his thoughts and needs. We have been VERY blessed to have met Colleen and Megan and all of the therapist at Northshore. Currently we work with Brianna and her ABA team, and we still see Colleen and Megan for speech and OT they are our family. We absolutely LOVE them and could not begin to thank them for all they have done for not just our family, but our Marky. He now plays with his sister, has conversations with her and his cousins, is able to attend birthday parties and we can have people over our house without our little guy going into a complete panic attack. To me it feels short of a miracle. I will forever be embedded to Northshore and their team. read more

We had a neuropsych eval for our son. It completely lacked in thoroughness and the doctor had no affect. No compassion. She couldn't (or wouldn't) explain much about the diagnosis she gave our son, and after some back and forth removed the diagnosis all together because in our gut we knew he didn't meet the criteria. What a waste. OT services were behind closed doors and this therapist never invited us into the room nor did she got back to us on what she was doing or learning about our son. I often would have to write her 2-3 emails to get a response. She is very junior and once again, gave very little insight into what she was doing every week with our son. Lastly, if you do decide to go there don't give them your credit or debit card as you fill out the 100 pages of paperwork. They will auto-deduct bill without warning. read more

Update from September 2012. The practice moved into a much larger space across the street from their old location over the summer (or was it in the spring?). There is a vastly upgraded waiting area among other things. I still highly recommend this practice. read more

This place is amazing! The therapist are wonderful! It is a very upbeat place. The parents that sit in the waiting area are very nice and support each other. The staff at North Shore Pediatric Therapy are just wonderful. My son was here with me in Chicago for the summer and NSPT were able to work seamlessly with his other therapists to provide a comprehensive plan using ABA Therapy. All of the therapists were not only highly professional but worked diligently to help my son prepare for entering school with social exercises. The Bucktown location was great--the lobby has some refreshments and wi-fi to help parents work during sessions. The home visits were handled with courtesy and without disrupting the household. At the end of therapy sessions, the therapists provided a report of achievements and concerns and the communication among all of the therapists was top-notch. The staff also handled all of the necessary paperwork for insurance billing. I look forward to working again with NSPT in the future. read more

We have worked with NSPT for several years. I am constantly delighted with the services provided by the therapists and the office staff. As my boys have grown, their needs have changed and NSPT always seems to have just the right person to assist us. They have identified the critical services needed by families and consistently provide the highest quality therapy for their clients. Run the other way! This place is a sham and obviously out for insurance dollars. Two years ago it was suggested that my then 2 year old daughter be given neuropsychological testing to determine her need for behavioral therapy. Ignorantly, after testing, we continued on with recommended behavioral therapy at Northshore. The therapist was unprofessional from the beginning. She let me know on our first visit that she had taken a red eye plane from a trip to Vegas that morning and had not even looked at our file and she kept referring to the Neuropsychologist by his first name as if he were her boyfriend. Over the next several months she lead my daughter to the developmental gym in the back while I sat in front. The therapist carried a thick booklet and claimed that she was doing more 'testing' on my daughter and showed me in her booklet how she was compiling results. Ignorantly, I allowed it continue. One day I was sent an email that the therapist had quit. I asked the manager about all the 'testing' that my daughter had been undertaking the past months. The manager confessed that there should have been no more testing and that in fact my daughter had not been receiving any sort of therapy. She offered me followup therapy with someone else. I was very angry and expressed this. I had spent money on babysitting so that I could bring my daughter to NorthShore, not to mention our wasted time. The manager kept inferring that the past "therapy" sessions had all been covered by insurance so I should not be upset. I could not believe my ears. Fast forward to present day. My daughter is currently in a reputable system and I have learned from countless industry professionals that NorthShore has a terrible reputation. Mainly for their bad management. Apparently there is tremendous staff turnover for this reason. The 'good' therapists usually leave after getting a taste of this. Obviously 'bad' therapists (such as we had) leave as well. Additionally the 'Neuropsychological' testing that Northshore billed my insurance over $2500 to perform is useless. My current child psychologist raised her eyebrows when I showed her Northshores testing results and told me that it was basically useless information as it offered no explainations of why the testing was performed. Thanks a lot Northshore for wasting my family's time and money. Do Chicago a favor and close your doors. read more

NSPT was super helpful in addressing exactly what my child needed to get through her challenging issues. I had explored tons of options all over Chicago and was frustrated. Deborah Michael was warm and incredibly competent in assessing my child's behavior patterns. Sarah Steinberg is an excellent children's therapist who came all the way across Chicago to my home to observe the way I was parenting and give me behavior modification tips. It worked! read more

This place is amazing. My son has been coming here for almost two years for speech and occupational therapy. The staff is friendly, helpful and anything you could wish for. Lindsey Moyer has been our occupational therapist and has made such a positive impact on his life. We've had constant invaluable help from the staff dealing with our insurance coverage, detailed recommendations for our IEP meetings and many other things that go way above and beyond what we ever expected . My son has no idea that he attends therapy beside he has such a good time at NSPT. As a parent, I have been amazed with the progress he has made. I cried when I saw my son write his name for first time. Although it may seem like a tiny thing, when we first started coming to NSPT, my son's hand muscles were that of a two year old. (He was four.) he could barely grasp a crayon. Now, he's six and in kindergarten and has better handwriting than most of his classmates. He also has learned many useful social skills from the coaching the therapists do between the kids who go here for various services. (Just an awesome bonus!) A million thank-yous to Lindsey and the staff at North Shore!!! You really have truly changed my son's life for the better. read more

Our daughter was referred and all I can say is that this place is the worst ever. We never got a straight answer. She was place with a social worker verse an OT and Speech therapist and when I raised concern with the Doctor that sent us here.... which by the way he's connect to the place, he gave a speech about how this was the best for her. I went to Beth Osten a much better and professional place. Every question answered and we can sit in the sessions if we want to. After every session we have a meeting with the staff and we can talk and ask as many questions until we are satisfied. Not like this place I felt that we were rushed and told that we can email them instead. This place is scary not to mention the HIPPA violations left and right. read more

North Shore Pediatric Therapy cares about your child's well being and provides excellent services to support your child and the entire family if necessary. The facility is really fun for kids and has top-notch equipment and activities to provide the best possible occupation therapy (speech therapy, etc.). My son has been working with the fantastic therapists at North Shore Pediatric Therapy since May of 2009. He receives behavior, speech and occupational therapy at the Bucktown location. I am thrilled with each and every therapist that works with him - we have a team approach and the skill, insight and and concern that they show him has made all the difference in the world. My child has been coming to the Bucktown location for about 2 years now, from age 3.5 for pt. We were at another place for 6 months prior to that, that felt more like a factory where she was just a number and we saw no results and were very discouraged until we met Judy. This place is top notch, let me tell you. In 4 months, my child gained two years of large motor skills, going from being two years behind, to roughly half a year ahead. She had been complaining of pain that the other place dismissed, and in one quick visit, Judy identified the problem and cured the problem in about two weeks to like 90% better, a problem my child was complaining about for months to the other therapist. I can't imagine the professionalism, the detailed measurement and assessments we've received, specific, detailed goal setting and a clear path to get there, and you can see very clearly what the process will be and what you can expect. We have had timely evaluations, fantastic progress. Judy has given us such personal attention, from coming in outside of the office to help with an IEP like meeting as my daughter's case required prioritization of treatment, order of treatment and discussions with Ot/vision/psych/dev ped, to watching her in her extracurriculars to see how she is keeping up with peers. She has been fantastic when we had identified play skills that were impacted by physical handicap that needed to be corrected, to even things when we said you know, her handwriting is having issues, and Judy has been able to figure out what was going on there, something that wouldn't have just showed up in an assessment battery. My child can follow the take home excercises easily, they are pictures and we just tape them to the fridge, and she just does them, they make them fun. The therapy is play-based, she loves coming. The office is comfortable, with wifi and enough space and toys for a waiting child, not to mention the park that's two blocks away when the weather is good. Parking is metered, but there is a small lot in the back. Never had any problems with billing or insurance here. Never had any communication issues, in fact the opposite. Oh, the way I found it is that I was reading their blog for a year and that made me realize that we were not doing all that we can for my child. You can get to know the therapists that way, feel free to check their blog for some of the writing from some of their pt, Ot, social, and language folks. You will see how competent they are. Oh, and we know many that go there, have recommended it left and right, and don't know anyone who didn't love it. They get results! They are awesome. Oh, and the facility is top notch, with every possible gross motor and small motor thing present for both pt and Ot, and I'm sure for the other things just by watching. My daughter had tonal differences through her body, and now two years later, we can't find any. She is ahead on most of her gross motor skills and age appropriate on the rest, and her joint issues are over. This translates to a more confident, better performing at home and at school, happier, overall better self regulating child. If you are not sure if you should do ot/pt etc, know that the younger, the quicker they can fix things, and the less they will remember. If you are on the fence, there is much more risk in holding off. I read about weird privacy issues below in the comments, didn't see any of that at all. I constantly send accolades to the owners about our pt and from what I understand, it's very hard to find a good one. She even matched my child up with another for the sessions, to make the work more fun, so that they could play together. read more

I cannot say enough about our Educational Advocate, Shari Meserve. We hired her on the recommendation of a friend who raved about her and we now understand why. She immediately understood our concerns and was able to identify problems with our daughter's situation that we hadn't even realized. We were a little concerned when we got to the meeting because she was so friendly to the staff (these are people we have been fighting with for the last two years) but wow..once the meeting started, she presented herself as professional (still kind) but definitely in control of the situation. It was as if SHE was running the meeting, in a very quiet, non-aggressive way. She picked up on things and instead of becoming argumentative, asked questions to get the team to realize what our daughter needs. Shari is not only extremely knowledgable about special education, she is a great negotiator. I also want to say that throughout the process, she made herself readily available and even answered emails in the evenings and on weekends. In the end, our daughter is now getting what she needs, and the school takes us much more seriously. We will not go to a meeting without Shari. read more

North Shore Pediatric Therapy has been wonderful to work with when my son has needed Speech and Physical Therapy evaluations and Occupational Therapy. We have used their services over the past 6 years and they have always been so attentive to my son's needs and development. They are professional, sessions always start and end on time, they are up front about costs and estimating time frames needed to help your child. There are regular evaluations to assess where my son is developing and where he needs more help. We have used several other services around Chicago including Early Intervention and you will notice a huge difference with North Shore. I can't say enough about Marissa, my son's Occupational Therapist. She truly cares about my son and his progress, and just as important, she cares about how I am feeling and how our family is handling things. You just can't find this anywhere else.
