I really love the North Laine Pub and Brewery. I've come here more times than I can remember and have yet to be disappointed by the place. The best thing about this place, and perhaps the reason I became such a regular, is the space. It's big enough that you don't have to fight through crowds or hover for a table on a Friday night, but not so big that it's soul-less at the same time. There's just enough space for everyone, making it a very easy pub to visit. The drinks are relatively reasonable - I usually stick to cider or wine here and have never been gobsmacked by their cost. They also have a pretty extensive pub grub menu. I've tried the nachos and some of their more hearty dishes and have been very impressed! The food isn't massively cheap but the portions are big and the tastes are certainly there! The nachos are for sharing - that's for sure - and are a great dish to get in a group. There's a brilliant pub quiz here, called Quiz Kong. It's lighthearted and has a picture round which is usually tough but hilarious. There's a really nice feel about the quiz too - not too competitive but not entirely without banter between teams either. If you join the quiz and get a stamp on your hand, they'll offer you discounts at the bar too, which is great! The staff here are always very friendly too and, as an added bonus, I often see dogs in here, so they're obviously allowed inside, which is both handy for dog owners and lovely for all the non dog owners about, in search of cuddles (like me). The toilets are clean, the ambience is great and all in all, this is a brilliant pub! I keep coming back because it never lets me down. read more

If you like craft beers and a somewhat noisy, lively atmosphere then this place is for you. I like neither of these, alas. On the plus side the place looks great (you can see a variety of brewing vessels where they actually brew the beer behind the bar area). Food is good, too, and the staff friendly and helpful. The Bottomless Brunch (running from 11am to 3pm, possibly weekends only) is worth checking out (as I did on a recent Yelp event). There is a choice of brunch meals (I chose their equivalent of a full English, actually it was more like a 3/4 English, but still very good). Then there is a choice of Mimosas or Bloody Maries, as many as you like (you have to nominate your choice when ordering your brunch). It's £20, but if you drink enough it's good value. read more

Came to this pub for a works outing. The plave reserved and decorated a table for us which was great. They serve a great selection of food with reasonable priced drinks. The great thing about this place is they brew their own beer which is a great little touch Worth a visit read more

This place is literally down the road from me. I remember way back in the day when I first moved to Brighton it was a closed down venue called the Barfly. I always used to walk past thinking, I hope that place gets bought and turned into a new venue, and it did! It's a nice enough pub, the decors nice and it's got a good atmosphere. There are ALWAYS people in there. They run a pub quiz every Wednesday, so if your feeling a little bit of a genius and like a bit of friendly competition then get down there! I've given it three stars because of personal taste. I like small, cosy pubs. This is quite a big pub, almost like a bar. I personally don't like the layout, I think they could of designing it a bit better. But whatever! I don't think there really is enough seating. One thing to mention. they brew their own beer! So if your a fan of that kind of thing. Get down! read more

I have to admit that I visited this pub for the first time on the Friday before Christmas, I was on-call and not drinking, so this may well have had some influence on my experience here. The occasion was a friends leaving party and she had reserved a space, however the pub was so rammed with people that said space didn't really exist. My boyfriend and I queued at the bar and got consistently overlooked - there really is nothing like being made to feel invisible to get you in the mood for a night out!! When we finally got served I was told that the drink I requested wasn't available, but the bartender then came back with it - not great product knowledge here. Getting back to our group of friends was like taking part in some kind of assault course, but we finally made it, however conversation proved to be impossible as the noise level was so high you couldn't hear yourself speak let alone anyone else. I fight nearly broke out when a man had his tray of freshly purchased tequila shots knocked over - a foregone conclusion really. Needless to say, we left after one drink. A shame really, as we didn't get chance to speak to a lot of people. I will go back and try this pub again as I'm sure it will be better with significantly less people. It specialises in cask beer so is somewhere that would definitely appeal under different circumstances. read more

Think this place is better in the day than at night, as i've been here a few times for a relaxing drink in the afternoon and its sound,with plenty of selection of their own ales. Came here last night and it seemed too big, too towny, too many people dressing like Jeremy Clarkson, could never understand the suit jacket and jeans look. Bland music(electronic and soul music your old dear wouldn't mind) ,i really wouldn't bother coming here once the sun sets. read more

This is your more modern day pub - little more sterile and large; definitely not the best place for cozy rugby-watching. But, it does pack it in for the rugby games - and you most likely won't find a seat. The other area of the pub tends to be crowded, but more accessible and more family-area. The beer selection is good - they have their own craft beers which are tasty. They also have a decent wine list. The food stuffs looked quite lovely, though a bit higher-priced than what I like to spend at a pub. Overall average vibe, good-looking food, and good beer/wine selection. Definitely gets loud in there due to the high ceilings though! The kids running around doesn't help w/ the noise either. read more

I attended this establishment to do Axe Throwing for my friends birthday. It was a lovely evening and the axe throwing instructor was brilliant, however my evening was completely ruined when it came receiving our food from the bar staff. I ordered 2 beef burgers and 2 lemon & limes (zero alcohol), which totalled £32.50, which I questioned and was told this right and lemon and lime is £4.50 EACH. We sat down to await our food and approx 15mins later I could see our food was arriving. The staff member handed me both sets of burgers and fries (both were served on a chopping board), putting both in my hands to which nearly the entire contents of the meal trays/boards was completely spilt over me. Covering me from head to toe in chips, grease and salt, leaving me in shock and in a complete mess. The staff member then processed to stand there for 30secs and then walked away as if nothing happened. My friends were all too in shock as to what had happened, disgusted that nobody even bothered to care or follow up. I had to pick up all the food out of my clothes and was left with a overdone burger and a few straggly chips. I was not approached by anyone working there who could clearly see what had happened, nor was I given so much as an apology. This completed ruined my entire evening resulting in me feeling upset, disheartened and a mess. I then had to make my way home at 10pm due to being both humiliated and sitting in both grease and food, ruining my outfit for the evening. read more

Stumpled upon this pub and decided to go inside to check if they had any good brews for us. Turns out they make their own lager, porter and some more. Nice! We got to sample some of the beers before we decided, also nice. It was a busy night, since it was a Friday but we got our beers rather fast, so no complains, plus they were good staffed behind the bar. It was a bit crowed due to TGE, but we found ourselves some chairs. What I dont understand is why the music was so loud. There were speakers all over the place and the DJ kept playing it soo loud, so loud that we had to shout to eachother. For me as not being 18 years old anymore and drunk out of my socks, I wish the volume could have been a bit lower. I dont mind music, but this is not what I would have expected from a place like this. Would have given one more star if not the music. Place was cozy and I like the brewing factor as well. I did not feel like this was a nightclub place, but it turned out to be one. Maybe its just the British way to do things. Where I normally go out (similar pubs) you can expect low music in the background so that you can have a normal conversation with your friends. As some has mentioned, its a lot of space here, so it didnt feel too crowded and you have a lot of various seating options as well. So, all in all, if not for music 4/5. Nice place, but could make do without loud music. read more

This is a really cool bar, i was quite surprised on how far this bar went back and they also brew there own beers with the tanks behind the bar, its quite open spaced and didn't take too long to grab a beer. theres loads of different beers to try out, The place was buzzing and everyone seemed to be having a great time including myself and the group that i was in. read more

Big, open plan but you don't miss the intimacy of most of Brighton's other pubs. Great ales brewed on site, food is good enough and priced well, but I've not tried much of their new menu. Great location as well, and fun pub quiz! Not sure about the crowd on a Saturday night though. read more

We had a great time at the brewery tour! The guy doing the tour (think his name was Jules or something) was really interesting and he showed us how everything worked with the brewing. If people wanted, they were offered small boards with three different types of beer on. I didn't have my own as I'm not a big beer fan, but I did try some of my partners and they were each really unique! I came along to find out about the whole brewing process and it really was interesting to see all the steps that go into it. The North Laine is a great pub and I'd highly recommend the tour as something to do that's a bit different from just sitting down and drinking. Haha! read more

There's a weird sort of giant Kingfisher sculpture hanging from the ceiling !!!!!! Apart from that it's like a bigger man beer Kellar lots of bare wooden benches and tables . Thankfully there's also lots and lots of different beers mostly brewed on site . read more

Really nice sized pub, big enough to swing a cat or 12. A good selection of local brews and other drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Food's also really good - they do a vegetarian and a vegan roast on Sundays which are both fantastic. However, food stops at 8pm so get there early. read more

Just spent a brilliant day at the North Laine pub with a large group of friends and children. Beautiful food and good portions and lots of choice. It was so good at accommodating us all that we al spent the whole day there as opposed to a couple of hours. My friends and I had enjoyed this pub until last night, when we had frankly awful and rude abuse from the staff which was out of order. They ended up kicking thirty of us out because four of us had not immediately bought a drink, and they patronisingly told us not to treat it as a 'youth club'. We will not be going back again! read more
