My uncle recently suffered a stroke and now has significant mobility and communication challenges…read more We visited Abba Eyecare to update his eyeglass prescription, and the level of compassion and customer service we received was truly exceptional. Rather than requiring him to come inside, the staff brought a selection of eyeglass frames out to our car, helped him choose a pair, and even measured and fitted him for his glasses while he remained comfortably seated in the vehicle. Because he is currently hospitalized in Gunnison and we will no longer be in town when the glasses are ready, they also offered to personally deliver them to the hospital. In a world where genuine customer service seems increasingly rare, the staff at Abba Eyecare went far beyond what anyone would expect. Their kindness, flexibility, and willingness to help during an incredibly difficult time meant more to our family than words can express. This is what outstanding patient care looks like.

She let me know of the situation extremely bluntly. I had been waiting months for this appointment. I was visibly disappointed and she said she would go check with the doctor, she got up and walked away shaking her head. So rude. When she came back she asked if I wanted to reschedule and I said no thank you, I was upset and needed to regulate before creating a new appointment. She proceeded to start offering me other dates and times and I reminded her that I had said no thank you and it felt like she wasn't respecting my words. The doctor that used to be here was amazing, idk about the new guy, but this honestly sucked and this woman was extremely rude. I wish we lived somewhere with more options so I didn't have to come back. ALSO- I made the 10 minute policy and waited 3 minutes while she finished her call and was too late because of her call... Beyond the frustration of this interaction and not being able to attend my appointment, the way this woman treated me was extremely unprofessional and she is clearly in need of further training.

Ripped off and unreasonable policy…read more My 16 year old son took down a pair of Chums eyewear retainer and pulled on the rubber part that fits into the eyeglass arm. And it promptly came off. He did not snap it off or pull on it with excessive force; he was just pulling on the rubber piece to see what kind of end piece it was. Because it came off, he offered to buy it, not understanding that a defective product should not be bought, and the clerk at the register should not have sold him something that was clearly defective. Chums sells thousands of retainers every year and a person pulling on the rubber piece to get it out of the cardboard packaging should not make the product damaged. When my son told me about this, as we were in the adjacent store, we went to the clerk to explain what happened. He would not refund or even exchange the purchase which had been made 5 minutes ago, pointing to the no refunds or exchange signs on the counter, even though the receipt says exchanges allowed with receipt which we had. The manager did not return my call. We will continue to support local retailers and locally-owned businesses, as we always have, and loved the service from all the other Crested Butte stores. This easily-remedied issue, with a refund or even an exchange, would have kept me as a customer and given them respect and my loyalty for making an exception to the unique situation or even just honoring their receipt verbiage, which stated exchanges were permitted with receipt. All the retailer had to do was send that one back to Chums on their business end. Now, I will have to contact our credit card company and file a grievance with Shades of Crested Butte, which they may or may not support, and if they don't, I'll need to contact Chums and go through their warranty department. Ultimately I am disappointed that Shades of Crested Butte would not stand by the products that they sell, that common sense and a tendency towards customer service had no play here, and all of this nonsense over a $13 purchase. I am not going to suggest that you don't shop here; I am merely retelling our experience and state that I will take my business elsewhere and support the other fine, locally owned and operated shops in Crested Butte.

They cheerfully repaired the glasses on the spot though I had not purchased the glasses there. They also adjusted the frame without me asking so I was good to hit the slopes the next day. While waiting I noticed the wide variety of sunglasses they have available and was, quite frankly, amazed at the wide variety of frames, both old standards and a few brands I had never heard of: Oakley, Smith, Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Spy, Native and several others which looked very interesting but which I did not recognize. I understand they also offer prescription eyewear upon request. I will need to replace my existing RayBan Clubmasters in another year or so. I probably will try and contact this shop because of the wide variety of models and manufacturers. Very cute shop as well right on the Main Street there in CB. Very cute 3rd wave coffee just around the corner at Camp 4 Coffee so you caffeinate if you need to wait.
