My daughter joined North County Self Defense almost 2 years ago. This has been such an amazing journey watching her learn and make new friends. Three years later, she is enrolled in the Black Belt Club and still going strong. Great dojo! My daughter recently took the Child Abduction Prevention Seminar and it was amazing. It taught my daughter some basic skills and self defense against strangers. My daughter has been in this program for about a year and I feel like it's really helped to develop her character as well as her sportsmanship. My daughter is very competitive and hates to lose so when she started classes and she didn't get "the gold star" of the day, she struggled but Shihan Moss has a way or talking to the kids about being a good sport and what that looks like in the day to day life. North County Self Defense Summer Camp I found the best summer camp! My son loved it and I felt completely confident that he was safe, learning important life skills, and socializing in a positive environment.   I rarely write reviews but I am so impressed that I knew that I needed to share my experience. My experience with NCSD prior to summer camp: I think that it is important to mention that my eight year old son, Kai, has been taking karate with North County Self Defense for a couple of years. The staff has always been extremely professional and always shown concern for the wellbeing of their students. The classes focus first and foremost on character building. This is apparent in the positive, supportive, and respectful attitude of the staff and expectations they have for the students. Along with all of the personal growth building, North County Self Defense is extremely proficient in teaching age appropriate self defense. I have found that they are in a league all their own and no other karate studio comes close to what is offered there. With this experience I felt very confident in choosing to enroll Kai into their summer camp program. Summer Camp experience: Although Kai has been taking karate at North County Self Defense for a few years, this was the first year I signed him up for summer camp. I scheduled his week of summer camp during the week of  June 24-28. Kai had heard of all the fun activities he would be a part of that week and was excited to go. We arrived a few minutes early and when we walked into the door, we were warmly greeted by Shihan Moss, who would be overseeing and instructing the summer camp. He explained what the children would be doing that day and helped Kai get settled in.  There were other children who had already arrived. Some he knew from class and others that he had not met yet. All of the children were friendly and excited to welcome him.  When I came to pick Kai up at the end of the day, he did not want to leave. All of the kids were still having so much fun. He was so excited to have met new friends and was looking forward to all of the fun activities that were scheduled for the rest of the week. Everyday was the same, warm greetings, friendly supportive interactions, and a fun filled schedule.   During the week they had karate classes, played games, made a movie, and went on several field trips. It is my understanding that the field trips can change, however, the field trips that were provided during Kai's week at summer camp were: The Wave Waterpark, going to a movie at Cinépolis, painting at Clay n Latte, and making personal pizzas at Lamppost pizza. I have never found another day camp that provided so many fun activities for the price.  If you are looking for a safe, fun environment, that focuses on character building and positive friendly interactions for your child, I highly recommend North County Self Defense's Summer Camp and their year round self defense classes. read more

William will send you some friendly text messages urging you to come in. In my case when I showed up, the room was empty and there was nothing going on. Self defense school is very educational to all children from as early as age 4. My son has been a student there since the age of 4 and he's now 9. The most amazing perk is that they have a character development program implemented in their self defense class. My son has come a long way from little disciple to amazing positive change in his character at school and at home. The moves and tactics they teach are incredibly easy to learn and they encourage to apply them to daily situations they might come across in school or outdoors. Best of all is they teach adults courses as well. I've taken a class of K30X in the past and its such a great workout and experience overall. read more

I was injured some years back and it is difficult for me to get a good work out. Also, if you watch the news, there are bad things that can happen to good people. I do not want to be a victim. My wife and I needed to learn self-defense​. We could not ask for a better instructor and mentor than Sensei Moss. He is knowledgable, compassionate​ and puts things in a real-world​ perspective. A great way to learn how to protect oneself is to attend an introductory session or to book a birthday party. The parties are very interactive, positive, and keep both kids and adults alike engaged. I recently had the opportunity to take the self-defense training for an Active Shooter. Not thrilled that these times warrant a class such as this, but I feel much better prepared in the event I ever find myself in a situation with an active shooter. At least now I feel like I can take charge of my own chances of survival rather than remain a helpless victim at the hands of a shooter. He has really progressed in his martial art skills and he has not lost any interest in going every week. Sensei Moss and his team of instructors are great with the kids. I wish I could give this place 10 stars! I joined this school when I was 12 years old with my two other sisters. It was the best decision my parents ever made. The instructors are extraordinary! Being part of North County Self Defense helped me stay focus in school and build great relationships with the people around me. Sensei William Moss of North County Self Defense is amazing! I am a physical education teacher in Oceanside and through my school's afterschool program I was able to observe Sensei Moss teach several martial arts/self-defense classes for students in grades 1-8. During the first class I was blown away by Sensei Moss' passion, knowledge, and experience teaching martial arts and self-defense. He made what can be a challenging task of keeping students' attention look easy through his organized demonstrations, positive reinforcement and high energy. Also, I am always happily surprised by how engaged students are, and how even students who may not always enjoy physical activity are active participants for the entire class Sensei Moss teaches. Sensei Moss even volunteered to spend a day teaching an introductory self-defense lesson for my middle school students, and they still talk about how much they enjoyed learning from Sensei Moss and continue to ask if he can come back. I know any child would benefit from taking classes at North County Self Defense with Sensei Moss, as his professionalism and passion are unparalleled. Sensei Moss even assigned my students a homework assignment which required them to write down 10 ways they can show focus in the classroom, and in return they were invited to a graduation ceremony where students were able to demonstrate the skills they learned. Sensei Moss' teachings go well beyond self-defense and can improve any child's self-discipline, confidence and mental focus, as well as enlighten them about valuable life skills.
