The farm stand uses the honor system - which means you pay the marked price in a box and take the jam you are buying. This way of buying is nice because it doesn't require someone to man the stand and also you can visit and buy at any time. We bought three jams to try at home: strawberry rhubarb, peach, and blackberry. We haven't tried any yet but I can tell from the jars and the ingredients used they will be delicious. The landscape of mountains in the distant is spectacular as you pick from the rows of trees with several variety of apples. The remoteness lets you get sucked into the quiet with only the whisper of the wind through the field and tree branches. A must do when exploring the beauty of a Bethel fall day.

The carrots are especially awesome, but they also have perfect tomatoes, the best corn ever, great arugula, mixed greens etc. Strawberries and blueberries are amazing as well. They also have cheeses, milk, local meats, baked goods - if I lived in the upper valley I would do almost all my grocery shopping at Killdeer. No need to shop elsewhere!

So, a half star off for mediocre value. Another half star off for business practices, based on Killdeer's sanctimonious statements trying to justify their policy of importing foreign workers from poor countries to do their farm labor, instead of hiring local workers. Come on guys, you import foreign laborers for one reason: to maximize corporate profit. There is no difference between what you do, and what mid-western meat-packing plants do. And that's okay -- I feel Killdeer is entitled to hire whoever they want, as long as it's legal. But I resent the Karl Rove-ian style "Clear Skies" doublespeak spin.

Both father and son were so kind and informative and made us feel like family. We had four kids with us and they were super sweet with them and had non alcoholic apple cider available for them so they could included. All the adults got flights and Byron took his time walking us through all the flavors and ensuring we had a flight specific to each of us. The atmosphere is super cozy and the fireplace made a nice touch since it was pretty chilly out when we came. I would come here often if I lived in the area. Loved it.
