Small town business in a small town America. owned and operated by local folks who work hard and provide a service that is quickly becoming obsolete in this throw away world we are living in. Walk right in most any time and greeted friendly every time. Clearly explain what you need done and don't ask for miracles. If you want to fit in that prom dress that you wore 20 years ago, and you've put on 50 pounds since senior year, well then go down the street to the time machine store and get one of those! If you want your clothes altered and fixed and mended and all that in a timely fashion at a reasonable price??? This is the place!! read more

A long overdue update, but the rating is still a 5 and would be higher if allowed. Since the sleeves of the sweatshirt (reviewed earlier) were favorably adjusted, I have returned with my granddaughter to have three dresses altered: a knee-length dress with layered tulle skirt and beaded bodice for Homecoming needed the bodice taken in (the seamstress also found some loose beads we hadn't noticed and sewed them in place); a fitted floor-length dress with train for spring prom needed to be hemmed; and just today, we picked up another floor-length dress, this one A-line with train, for this year's prom. The bodice V was tacked for modesty and the dress hemmed. I have found both husband and wife to be warm but also business-like. If cost could be an issue, ask for an estimate before leaving your garment(s). Remembering what I'd paid to have the sweatshirt sleeves shortened, I was sure the prices for the dress alterations would be fair. Not cheap, but worth paying what was asked because I don't have the skill to do what needs to be done. The work is flawless and, in each instance, has been done in a week's time at what I consider a fair price. read more

Very good in quality, timing, and price. My mom and I took in a pair of slacks each to get hemmed and are both very happy with the final product. When I told her that I have an interview next week and would need mine done in 1.5 weeks or less, the seamstress had them ready in just 2 days! Altogether the cost for both pants was $16 total, which is unheard of for the quality and timing. Although I can't speak for other reviews here that aren't satisfied with alterations on other types of clothing, I cannot recommend North Canton Alterations enough for anyone who needs their dress pants hemmed. read more

Not sure why there are good reviews here. Perhaps these people were lucky. I found the owner to be extremely rude and uninviting. I took a pair of very expensive shorts to her to let out and also repair a button. She instructed me to go to a shoe shop for the button attachment, because it's a rivet button. Apparently, she's not equipped with sufficient tailoring equipment. When I asked about taking the shorts out, she just said no. I'll take my business elsewhere. The owner is rude and the shop is small and stuffy. I wasn't impressed at all. I would suggest finding another place to alter your clothing. Customer service is dead for sure. I guess my shorts weren't 'good enough' for repair in her eyes.... read more

Quality work in altering a dress that was too big- needing the shoulders taken up and the sleeves shortened and tapered. The price was reasonable for the extensive work and was completed in a week to meet my needs. I have been going to this shop for years and have never been disappointed. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I took a bridesmaid dress to get hemmed and they wanted to charge me $70! I said I would go elsewhere and they still charged me $10 just for trying it on. They were very rude. Also, the shop is very small, hot, and smelled of body odor. I do not recommend. read more

Very upsetting experience. I've come here several times for alterations and it always cost $20 for a dress hemming. The lady was never nice, can't actually do alterations (just hemming) and my things were always finished late, but I wanted to support them anyway, so I kept coming. I was a loyal customer. For my sister's wedding, my brother-in-law and I took my dress and his pants there to be hemmed. She told my brother-in-law it wouldbe $9 to hem his pants. I was a little surprised, because she'd always charged me $20, but chalked it up to his being handsome. So, I came back alone to pick up my dress and the pants when they were ready and go to pay the bill. She says it's going to cost $60 for my dress. I was shocked. I said it had always been $20 and that she hadn't told me it would cost more. She insisted that it had always been $30 and that she was charging me double because the skirt of the dress was crimped. I said she hadn't said anything about that last time. She said I hadn't asked. I said I hadn't asked because we both knew that it had always been $20. She insisted on the $60. I said that wasn't a fair price and that the most I would pay was $30. Finally, she agreed to $60 for both the pants and the dress. I said I only had $50 cash with me and she wouldn't take my card. She told me to drive to the bank. I was so upset, but it was the day before my sister's wedding and I needed the dress, so I left and drove to the bank and came back. I hand her her $60. She rings up my receipt... and says I owe her $2.50 in tax. Which I handed to her with as much disdain as I could muster. read more

Great hemming job on quite a complicated dress. This place is run by what seems to be a husband and wife team. The man seems to be the business manager and the lady is the head seamstress. I needed a dress to be hemmed for a wedding the next day. The lady agreed to do it after a minute's deliberation. So then I turn to the man, who, for some reason didnt hear the conversation I just had with the lady and was utterly shocked that I wanted the dress the next day. The lady talked to him in Chinese so Im not sure what she told him but he gave in after all, although still a bit hesitant. The lady charged me $40, which is totally outrageous but I was in a jam so I agreed to pay it. As I left their little shop, the man called out to give them at least seven days next time. Except, there wont be a next time, because I was only in Canton for one weekend and well, next time, I won't be doing things so last minute...maybe. read more
