Nobody likes going to the hospital, even if you're just there to visit. The Bristol Royal Infirmary…read moredoesn't look to inviting from the outside, it resembles more of a street-long block of offices. However, inside is an entirely different story. It is so bright and cheerful! You don't quite forget you're in a hospital, but the atmosphere is very calm and positive that you could be in a town hall. The BRI is closely linked to the University of Bristol and is a teaching hospital so you may have to be a little patient with the nurses and doctors. However, everyone s so professional, efficient and always smiling that you know you're in safe and capable hands.

However i haven't been in there on a saturday night when i imagine it is a different story. My brother came in here to look after a mate who had broken his leg on just such a Saturday night. Whilst he was waiting, he asked what the most amusing injury they had had anyone come in for. The nurse told him a story about some guy who came in with a light bulb stuck in his mouth; he had been dared to see if he could get it both in and out, but once it was in it got stuck. About an hour after they had sorted him out another guy came in with the same 'problem'. It was the taxi driver who had driven light bulb no.1 to the hospital; when he got off his shift he went home and gave it a go himself! I suppose there are some perks to working a Saturday night.

The labour room (I had the same one both times, three years apart!) was very large, airy and well equipped so we felt very comfortable in there. The bed looked scary, as they usually do but there was also a rocking chair as well as all the usual equipment. The en suite bathroom was very clean and cosy with a big bath and handy panic button. I left the same day the first time but stayed on a ward for the night last time and it wasn't too bad. The bathrooms were quite clean and the food was okay, although I didn't have much due to a lack of vegetarian options. The staff, especially the midwives were great though and really helpful. I believe they recently won an award for their pro breastfeeding stance, which is deserved. Only weird thing was having to push the babies in front of us in their little plastic cots wherever we went. It was like being at a surreal supermarket! I have had a couple of out patient appointments here as well - for SPD during pregnancy and to have my son's tongue tie corrected and was really impressed on both occasions. The only problem, and it is quite a big one considering that this is a maternity hospital, is there is hardly any parking. If you arrive in the middle of the night then you should be fine but my husband had to park about fifteen minutes walk away last time, which was really inconvenient! He had to chuck me out of the car (while I was in labour) at the door then leave me on my own while he went off to try and park as near as possible. It was really absurd.

I did not even have any privacy when it came to undressing my lower half. The woman was rough when moving the camera around inside and I was in a lot of pain however she just continued. Even now around 5 hours later I am struggling to sit down due to a burning sensation even walking is a problem. The scan I had previously was fine and had only the small amount of discomfort expected. I am quite shocked to be completely honest with how this scan went and am put off going to st Michaels again.

The folks at Hilton reception suggested my brother take me to this specialist eye hospital, rather than the local A & E, and I am so grateful they made this suggestion cause I was treated immediately and with the best of care. My brother dropped me off front as he had to find parking and my thanks to the gentleman at the front counter who guided me towards assessment because at that time, I was just in such excruciating pain, I couldn't see anything from either of my eyes. Nurse Jane did my assessment and it was bad enough that I was skipped over the patients waiting in emergency, and taken in to see Nurse Anna a mere 10 mins later after my paperwork was submitted. My thanks and gratitude to both Nurses who were both so fantastic, and took such excellent care of me! After this triage, it was determined that I needed to see the Doctor and this took a while. Finally around 90 minutes later, got to see the Doctor, she diagnosed "Iritis" and I was prescribed a antibiotics plus steroids eye-drop course. Dr Khan was very through and fantastic about going thru my treatment for the next 5 weeks. After that, headed to the pharmacy (located in the main hospital building) and yeah while true total wait time was long, overall was very pleased with the quality of care and professionalism of all staff encountered. It's not going to be happy circumstances that bring you to Bristol Eye Hospital, obviously, but you…read morehope that you'll leave feeling comforted, treated and not stressed out - and that's exactly the nature of my experience here. I'd done something very stupid: scraped off a bit of my cornea with a mascara brush. Stop laughing! We all make mistakes! So, after an initial trip to my optician, I was referred for an immediate appointment over here at the Eye Hospital. It was all very efficient and reassuring. I only had to wait a short time, because my optician had phoned ahead to alert them to the arrival of me and my poor old scratched-up cornea. There was a very thorough examination, done by a very friendly doctor, and soon I was armed with the necessary soothing eyedrops and on my way home. Before this experience, I had no idea there even was an eye hospital in Bristol; it's not something you'd think about until you need it personally. Now I know it's there, I'll have somewhere to go next time I'm a bit too cavalier with the mascara brush!

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX On Friday 12/09/2025 I became ill with high temperatures, nauseous, confusion, fatigue, very pale, dizziness I had to lie down. Firstly I phone my Doctor's surgery but I had to give my phone to my partner because I was deteriorating. My partner was told to phone a ambulance, which she did. The last thing I vaguely remembered I was on a bed ,the nurses & Doctor's were asking me questions. I couldn't answer because at the time I never knew where I was, what year was it and didn't even know who I was. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Through out this entire time of my complete confusion I sensed & felt my partner's presences with me. My partner is truly amazing beautiful wonderful person. Thanks for her love, understanding, patience and the support she had shown me. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX X The first thing I remembered was becoming aware of it was 04:30 am .I was in Southmead hospital gate 28b bed 36. but remembering what the date & year was it didn't came back to me straight away but it did later during that day of 13/09/2025 Saturday. I was informed that I had another severe skin infection. There was large red patches travelling up my legs. I also discovered every time I moved my both hips and my lower back was severely painful. Over the week that commenced. nights & days. I received x-ray scans. I tried on two separate days to have MRA scans but each on the two days I couldn't stand it any longer than ten minutes because laying flat was extremely painful. The doctors decided for me to have an CT scan with sedation before the CT scan, which worked out better for me. It was still extremely painful in my hips and my lower back but this scan was very much shorter. I was treated with a seven day course of very strong antibiotics. Throughout the Nights and the days XXXXXXXXXXXXXX The entire workforce of Southmead Hospital works towards one goal. That goal is to treat the health conditions that can be treated and completely heal other health conditions. The health conditions that can't be healed they make the other patients comfortable as best as they can. The staff of South mead hospital that work on Gate 28b bed 36 looked after me thoroughly. From all walks of life and from different countries they came to this country and started working for the N.H.S. to make our lives healthier and happier when we are unwell. Tests results going missing or NOT looked at at all when you ring up as NO ONE has contacted you when you were told they would and within a certain time you ring up they have no idea what your talking about, don't know what results you are meaning and tell you "sorry I think your mistaken" BUT then find what you are talking about and then feed you full of absolute nonsense instead of admitting that AGAIN they messed up BIG time and a doctor or consultant hasn't even bothered to open it and look at it even though it's been weeks since you had it done and even though you have been ringing up every other day leaving message after message! Receptionist NOT getting back to you when told MANY times they will you leave so many messages that you would think they would be sick of hearing you but nope still don't ring back. Sat in the waiting room for hours and then watch the person you are meant to be seen by walk out to find out they FORGOT you were sitting there and actually went home!!! No apology just a "we will make a note to the consultant and hopefully they will contact you" but they DON'T! This hospital is DANGEROUS!!! This hospital has neglected my husband for years (and yes we have tried moving care) they have lost his notes, his test results, forgot about him, didn't send out the much NEEDED appointments, no one bothering to look at his test results or scan results, sent him home when they shouldn't have so his landed up in a&e MANY times, using medical equipment but SHOULDN'T have so have left him PERMANENTLY damaged, left him bleeding out, surgeons DELIBERATELY ignore calls from nurses even though it's an emergency! given wrong medication, almost taken down for a operation that wasn't for him was for another patient and NO I am not joking! operated on him and caused so much life limiting damage to places they should NOT have been near! Had a surgeon operate on people when he SHOULDN'T have been and he has ruined people's lives! And YES we have made so many complaints it's RIDICULOUS The list of things wrong with this hospital is LONG but don't have the space to write it all trust me STAY AWAY!!!The hospital is a total disgrace

I used to come here when I was slightly younger, and was very impressed with the service they gave. For a start, the actual premises felt very far removed from the traditional sense of a 'hospital'. Rather than white washed walls and bright lighting, the theme is all low lit and warm browny colours, which immediately puts you at ease. The service was also very good - I think they only had a handful of doctors that would see outpatients, but the doctor I saw was massively friendly and made a great impression on me - he had a grandfather vibe about him, and would always take the time to listen, and explain situations very calmly, concisely and efficiently. It's an NHS hospital which is quite surprising for homeopathy, but if that's the route you need to take for treatment then make the most of it; this is a really excellent hospital.

The great thing about this hospital is that it is part of the NHS and not private, so everyone can make use of what they have to offer. Definitely worth a try, even if you're sceptical.

The practitioners have always been courteous and genuinely interested in assisting the healing process, always careful to pay attention to the detail.
