Nobody likes going to the hospital, even if you're just there to visit. The Bristol Royal Infirmary…read moredoesn't look to inviting from the outside, it resembles more of a street-long block of offices. However, inside is an entirely different story. It is so bright and cheerful! You don't quite forget you're in a hospital, but the atmosphere is very calm and positive that you could be in a town hall. The BRI is closely linked to the University of Bristol and is a teaching hospital so you may have to be a little patient with the nurses and doctors. However, everyone s so professional, efficient and always smiling that you know you're in safe and capable hands.

However i haven't been in there on a saturday night when i imagine it is a different story. My brother came in here to look after a mate who had broken his leg on just such a Saturday night. Whilst he was waiting, he asked what the most amusing injury they had had anyone come in for. The nurse told him a story about some guy who came in with a light bulb stuck in his mouth; he had been dared to see if he could get it both in and out, but once it was in it got stuck. About an hour after they had sorted him out another guy came in with the same 'problem'. It was the taxi driver who had driven light bulb no.1 to the hospital; when he got off his shift he went home and gave it a go himself! I suppose there are some perks to working a Saturday night.

Time spent in Hospital. From Friday 12/09/2025…read more TO 25/09/2025? XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX On Friday 12/09/2025 I became ill with high temperatures, nauseous, confusion, fatigue, very pale, dizziness I had to lie down. Firstly I phone my Doctor's surgery but I had to give my phone to my partner because I was deteriorating. My partner was told to phone a ambulance, which she did. The last thing I vaguely remembered I was on a bed ,the nurses & Doctor's were asking me questions. I couldn't answer because at the time I never knew where I was, what year was it and didn't even know who I was. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Through out this entire time of my complete confusion I sensed & felt my partner's presences with me. My partner is truly amazing beautiful wonderful person. Thanks for her love, understanding, patience and the support she had shown me. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX X The first thing I remembered was becoming aware of it was 04:30 am .I was in Southmead hospital gate 28b bed 36. but remembering what the date & year was it didn't came back to me straight away but it did later during that day of 13/09/2025 Saturday. I was informed that I had another severe skin infection. There was large red patches travelling up my legs. I also discovered every time I moved my both hips and my lower back was severely painful. Over the week that commenced. nights & days. I received x-ray scans. I tried on two separate days to have MRA scans but each on the two days I couldn't stand it any longer than ten minutes because laying flat was extremely painful. The doctors decided for me to have an CT scan with sedation before the CT scan, which worked out better for me. It was still extremely painful in my hips and my lower back but this scan was very much shorter. I was treated with a seven day course of very strong antibiotics. Throughout the Nights and the days XXXXXXXXXXXXXX The entire workforce of Southmead Hospital works towards one goal. That goal is to treat the health conditions that can be treated and completely heal other health conditions. The health conditions that can't be healed they make the other patients comfortable as best as they can. The staff of South mead hospital that work on Gate 28b bed 36 looked after me thoroughly. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX X There is a a group of people whom are dedicated to their profession, which is called the N.H.S. From all walks of life and from different countries they came to this country and started working for the N.H.S. to make our lives healthier and happier when we are unwell. Here are some names below that I personally need to thank because without them I may not be here. Morgan - Heath care staff, Bini -NURSE, Carol - Staff Nurse, Caroline - Staff nurse, Christine - Staff nurse, Saritha - staff nurse, Kaling - Health care assistant, Mel. - Housekeeper, Octavian --NURSE, Paula -Health Care Assistant, Rachel - House keeper, Rosni -- Nurse Erin- Health care assistant. A.J- Health care assistant. XX.XXXXXXXXXXXXX To all of the countless others that I know not their names but helped me get healthier again. I THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL N.H.S WORKERS. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX X From a very much a appreciated patient.

Disgusting hospital! Doctors don't know what they are doing, consultants have no idea what they are…read moredoing! Tests results going missing or NOT looked at at all when you ring up as NO ONE has contacted you when you were told they would and within a certain time you ring up they have no idea what your talking about, don't know what results you are meaning and tell you "sorry I think your mistaken" BUT then find what you are talking about and then feed you full of absolute nonsense instead of admitting that AGAIN they messed up BIG time and a doctor or consultant hasn't even bothered to open it and look at it even though it's been weeks since you had it done and even though you have been ringing up every other day leaving message after message! Receptionist NOT getting back to you when told MANY times they will you leave so many messages that you would think they would be sick of hearing you but nope still don't ring back. Sat in the waiting room for hours and then watch the person you are meant to be seen by walk out to find out they FORGOT you were sitting there and actually went home!!! No apology just a "we will make a note to the consultant and hopefully they will contact you" but they DON'T! This hospital is DANGEROUS!!! This hospital has neglected my husband for years (and yes we have tried moving care) they have lost his notes, his test results, forgot about him, didn't send out the much NEEDED appointments, no one bothering to look at his test results or scan results, sent him home when they shouldn't have so his landed up in a&e MANY times, using medical equipment but SHOULDN'T have so have left him PERMANENTLY damaged, left him bleeding out, surgeons DELIBERATELY ignore calls from nurses even though it's an emergency! given wrong medication, almost taken down for a operation that wasn't for him was for another patient and NO I am not joking! operated on him and caused so much life limiting damage to places they should NOT have been near! Had a surgeon operate on people when he SHOULDN'T have been and he has ruined people's lives! And YES we have made so many complaints it's RIDICULOUS The list of things wrong with this hospital is LONG but don't have the space to write it all trust me STAY AWAY!!!The hospital is a total disgrace

Considering…read morethat this is an NHS Hospital, that's even more impressive (not that it's good, but that it has a good reputation). From the outside this hospital has a whole lot of charm. It's one long and tall brick building that seems to levitate on the top of a hill overlooking Penarth. Lots of gardens and space and flower beds add to the atmosphere of an old fashioned place. It's respectable in its traditional nature. And, now wait for it, because this is kind of cool, they have the world's first ever high definition MRI. Whoohoo!

The building itself is old Victorian brick, much smaller and better laid out than the sprawling Heath Hospital. The vibe here is also much more chilled, less traffic, less urgency. I visited the midwife led unit as part of the antenatal class in order to weigh up my options. The unit is like a four start hotel - spacious rooms, double beds with duvets, birthing accessories and birthing pools. This is the place I wanted to give birth. Unfortunately with an old pelvic injury I was advised to go to the Heath hospital where they had surgeons on hand. If there were complications I would have had to wait for an ambulance like everyone else. If you drive here by car no need for coins, rather fantastically, unlike most other hospitals parking is free.
