The Fisherman Pie, which was Haddock, Smoked Haddock and Salmon in a Creamy Leek & Chive Sauce, topped with Mash Potato and Isle of mull Cheddar, was delicious. The decor and feel to the sitting area itself is traditional with a modern fusion, little tweaks like old spirit bottles (JD mainly) being used as candle holders are excellent to the vibe of the place and really let you settle happily in to one of the booths and take the surroundings in. We went in here because my better half was feeling hungry (I was saving myself for the North Berwick Fry which is just next door to the Ship Inn, in hindsight I should have eaten here) and decided to pop in here for a drink & a bit of lunch/dinner, we definitely weren't disappointed. A chicken and bacon burger was ordered and a chicken and bacon burger it was. Where the chicken that this chicken breast came from I don't know but it was definitely doing some serious weightlifting and bulking up. It was MASSIVE, in all it's chickeny beauty I found it hard to resist taking a huge bite out of the burger. Long stoy short, I ended up taking a huge bite out of the burger. The chicken was beautifully juicy for general pub grub and the bacon was lovely, sweet but slightly salted which gelled all the flavours of the breaded chicken and the toasted roll together. Thinking about it now, I'm getting hungry again. Every time I have a pub burger, the side salad always lets it down, every time, it's like the bars expect people not to eat it, but not this bar. The salad was crisp and fresh, served up with a deliciously sweet vinaigrette that was perfect for dipping a wee bit of the roll in. The spirit measures were 35ml and the guest ales on offer covered breweries such as Innis & Gunn and The Inveralmond Brewery (who do beers such as Lia Fail and Ossian) which justified the bar being about 60-70p more expensive than the others we visited.

The staff scoop up the chips, fry the fish, top the pizzas, answer the phone, drizzle the "Edinburgh sauce" and take orders, all at the same time might I add. Although queues on Friday and Saturday nights can be horrendous (out the door and down the street towards Umberto's and Bellfine) they move very quickly and you will be served and out of the shop before you know it. It is owned by the same people as the Central on West Port but it is much better! The staff are faster and the food is of a better quality. I would only pick Central over Adriano's if I wanted a proper sit-in meal as this place has no seats. But the harbour is just a 5 minute walk away, so you can eat with a sea view! They also sell Equi's ice cream for those with a sweet tooth!

I've had fish and chips around the UK for much cheaper, but at a slightly higher price point you get a perfectly crispy piece of fish with double-fried chips. It's packed with tourists, so you'll be handed a map of the city at the end -- which I found to be pretty funny given I was living in Edinburgh at the time and came with another local. i could rave about this place for hours. stumbled into here with my friends on our week long trip…read more we were jet lagged and tired from a day of walking. this first thing was that they are three floors tall and include an elevator for accessibility. the second was that they had fully closed bathroom stalls, each equipped with a sink and were very clean. they also had an accessible AND gender neutral toilet. the overall vibe of the place was fun and they had a lot of space with many tables. for the food, they had a key with all possible allergens, and showed which foods included them or not. the first thing we were asked was if there were any allergies in the party. as someone with many allergies, this was amazing. the wait staff was wonderful and very friendly. the food came quick and was so delicious. we had a few drinks, i got the cider, and they were all so good. we have since then gone again during our week in edinburgh and i am so glad we did.

The interior doesn't look much. But then again, how good is the inside of a chippy supposed to look? If you wander 30 or so feet down to the harbour you'll see where they get the catch every day. This place looks as if it hasn't changed in about 70 years! Absolutely no frills. This is a chippy so no prawn cocktail or scampi, just fantastic fish and chips. Queues outside prove the popularity - prepare to wait, especially on a Saturday night. We drive through from the Glasgow area, (2 hour drive) get a fish supper and sit on the shore walls looking out to sea in the most picturesque surroundings (and we don't have to dodge the seagulls).
