Their tool selection is excellent, from yard maintenance to electrical, plumbing, boats, you name it, and also have a good selection of quality work clothes and accessories, mostly Carhartt and Dickies. It's the first place I've seen since childhood that sells nails and screws by the pound. The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgable and not afraid to tell you whether your own hairbrained schemes are going to work. While I've left disappointed for not finding what I was looking for, they've spared me a good deal of heartache from finding out on my own that my notions weren't likely to succeed, most recently in trying to find a cap for the lower spout on my water hauling tank. They also routinely have some of the cheapest gas prices in town. I usually try to fill up down in CDA when I'm down there for work as it's often 20-40 cents cheaper than Sandpoint or Bonner's Ferry, but if I'm not heading down that way, this is where I go to fuel up. More than anything, I like that this place brings that small town Hardware store feel, but packs it with big box store level selection and service. Prices are pretty average, but they do have some really good sales prices on seasonal-type goods. This store also carries a variety of of non-surplus camping gear items as well. The location is pretty easy to find and park in. It does help to just stop in on a regular basis since scarce items tend to sell fast.

Now keep in mind this was the OLD ownership, and as I walked through the front door the room went from loud, jovial talking, to dead silence. All eyes were on me as I moved about the store, checking it out. No one said a word to me; no greeting, no one asked if they could help me find something. NOTHING! The atmosphere seemed almost hostile, like I didn't belong in the store so I quickly left and never went back. Several months later I was looking through a real estate magazine and saw Wrenco was for sale and for a split second I thought about buying the business. Again, for a split second. Then, several more months later, I saw Wrenco was under new ownership. This could be a good thing, I thought, so I went in to the store to look around again. When I entered the store this young guy approached me, extended his hand and told me his name is Brandon, the new owner. He actually thanked me for coming in to the store, and asked if I need help finding anything. WOW! What a difference from my first experience! I recently purchased a new rifle I had been wanting for a very long time, a Remington 700 Sendero SF ll in 7mm Rem. Mag. and Grant handled the sales transaction and background check which, with my CCW, took maybe 10 minutes. The entire staff at Wrenco Arms are very knowledgeable and friendly. I especially like the fact that they remember my name. It may not seen like much to some people, but to me it means they appreciate my business. Does Wrenco Arms have the cheapest prices on everything they sell? Probably not. However, their prices are more than fair, and, there is much to be said for the exceptional level of customer service they offer. And personally, I find it very difficult to place a price on someone else's knowledge, experience, and expertise. To Brandon, Grant, and the rest of the team at Wrenco (sorry I don't remember your names; I have a closed head T.B.I. or traumatic brain injury and moderate/severe memory loss) congratulations on your success, and I wish you even more in the future!

The biggest issues have been consistently poor customer service, an unwelcoming atmosphere and prices that are often higher than nearby competitors. One major concern that has always bothered me is hearing employees gossip and make petty disparaging comments regarding local customers and other businesses. It's unprofessional and doesn't inspire confidence, trust or reflect good character. I've heard similar stories from others over the years. You can find anything online for less these days and half the appeal of a local gun shop is building relationships and enjoying the experience but I've never found that here. This has been consistent with the old and new ownership- I've been treated with more courtesy at Walmart. The best way I can describe this shop's vibe is this: it's basically a high school locker room- except it's full of all the people that nobody likes and who probably don't like you. Even firearm and NFA transfers (which should be straightforward) have been unpleasant enough here that I have absolutely no reason to walk in there. Over time, most of the people we know have quit doing business there for one reason or another, myself now included. There are plenty of decent firearms retailers in North Idaho staffed by people who treat you like they appreciate your business and your time.
