I did enjoy eating the burger. The juicy and savory patty was balanced with the sweetness of the fig jelly and caramelized onions. For the burger's side, instead of going wih the fries we went with mac & cheese and paid extra. The mac & cheese is an easy recommend. Our other order was the Sausage poutine. The Sausage poutine was OK to good. I would not consider it among my favorite takes on Poutine, but it is still well worth the try. Service was excellent. Our waiter was bilingual in French and English and helped us with the ordering experience. He also occasionally checked up on our section of the restaurant conversing with different tables in English or French as required. The setting of the restaurant was interesting in that there is like a bar section bordered by like a balcony or terrace, and the more quiet section where we were seated facing outwards to the mall. The bathrooms are by the middle part where the guest entrance is. The walls and tiling of the place has so much character with picture frames, an arcade, and all the photos posted.

Atmosphere is dark, very acoustic with high ceilings. 20 tables. It's perched on a second level, atop the highway. Staff is kind and service good. The cheese curds are spongy. The Canada whiskey I inquired about; they did not have. A Canadian bar without whiskey. The place is perfect for millennials drinking 'fake-tinis'. The evening when I came in for dinner, was kind of dead. Bumping music, rocker wall-art, anarchy and music decor: wide-ranged burger menu that offers everything from one topped with eggs, to fried onion, avocado and lots of variations. It is burger heavy. Food tastes pre-packaged. Order beers from a bar tap, not shots. Bottles are for show. Review: 3

I'm giving out five stars because Chez Ashton is everything a poutine should be. However, keep in…read moremind that I'm severely biased on this one. Why? Saint-Louis-de-France is the neighbourhood I grew up in, and this particular Ashton location has not changed since 1997. Hence the nostalgia. I have actually never eaten anything but poutine at Ashton. It's not a fancy place, so the only toppings available are hot-dog, Dulton (grounded meat), extra cheese/sauce and whatnot. I suppose that if I was more objective, I would say fries are average and taste a bit oily (they recently started using smaller ones to get more crisp, but I'm not sure I agree on the decision). The cheese is proper (squeaky = fresh). The gravy is great, but many non-locals are not used to how thin it is. In fact, it should probably be called "sauce" (it's meant to soak the fries). So, Ashton is basically the most endearing comfort food for locals, and just generic fast-food for many outsiders. I call it my own favorite, but it also made my quest for poutine very difficult in Montreal... Tip: In winter, there's rebate if temperature fall lower than -20'C. So -34'C means 30% rebate.

La Belle Province and Les Restaurants Lafleur have better and these are chain restaurants. The fries have a funny taste of them, as if they were fried in oil used to fry the hamburgers. The sauce just doesn't seem right either. The cheese on the other hand is on par for poutine cheese. As for the hamburger, it's nothing special. I got bacon cheeseburger with barbecue sauce, it tastes like any other bacon cheeseburger. Note to all, the patties are fried and not grilled. I'm a send of charbroiled hamburgers over the fried version. So the hamburger really didn't do anything for me. I have to say the taste is pretty good though. Overall, it's not a bad place it's just not a must go to place.

Went here on the Monday of the August long weekend when many restaurants were closed-there were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 teens/tweens-menu was popular with all as there was something for everyone-not always easy with kiddos in tow +1 star! We were quickly seated and had beverages in a flash +1 star. Waitress was fully bilingual which helped us a lot, and she was friendly and welcoming. Our food was outstanding according to the group-duck confit poutine, Mediterranean burger, two other burgers were the La Bête-which were highly lauded by our husbands who ate every bite +1 star! You could tell there was love in these dishes-patties were made fresh, ingredients carefully placed, fries were fresh cut-what's not to love? +1 star. I had a Quebec Poutine Week award winner of deep fried gnocchi, cheese curds, fried leeks, whipped herb cream and a caramel balsamic reduction, with of course amazing gravy to boot-(I will be back for this dish) +1 star! The gnocchi was the winner at the table although all others tying for 2nd-no one was disappointed with their choices-we'd come back over and over if CV was in our neck of the woods. Thanks CV!

3.5/5, +.5 for service…read more This was my family's last stop in Quebec City before driving back to Montreal. Q-de-Sac is a restaurant in Old Quebec (lower town) that's more of a bar setting. They have some Quebec staples like poutine and foie gras, and a selection of 10" pizzas available. We came here for lunch and each had a French onion soup. I had a Shack's Poutine by myself, while my mom and dad shared a beef cheek pizza. The French onion soup was a bit salty. I find it intriguing that multiple establishments in Quebec City kept mentioning their onion soups as the "best in town", including this one. This one was good, but I'd give Chez Boulay the crown from all the places I tried. The poutine, on the other hand, was excellent. Will never say no to plentiful cheese curds, and I don't mind foie gras at all. My parents enjoyed the beef cheek pizza, particularly highlighting the BBQ sauce and the smoked beef cheeks. Service was excellent. We arrived around 11:30am and there was one other table taken, but by the time we left around 1pm there was a lineup. Personally I would come back here.
