Stay here was good. Check in went smoothly. Parking is on Main Street and is not free. Nevertheless, there's a lot of space here so it was not a problem finding a spot. The connection/bridge to the hotel is on level 3. The room was clean. Bed, sheets, pillows were all comfortable. They have a fitness center and a pool. Breakfast is not complimentary but there are options here. Some elevators did smell like urine; other than this, we enjoyed our stay here. read more

I've had a lot of memories at this property, my mom got married here, and I went to prom here, so it definitely holds a special place for me. The location is truly incredible, right in downtown Norfolk with easy access to the waterfront and so much within walking distance. That said, I was a bit disappointed with the vibe on my last visit this past weekend. I was expecting more of a true refresh or "facelift," but it still feels like the property needs additional updates to fully match its potential and prime location. During my stay, there were also noticeable maintenance issues, including an escalator that wasn't working, peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, doors not locking, sheets with makeup stains, and areas that felt generally dated. As for parking I suggest using the paid lots, though they do offer valet. Overall, it's still a solid hotel in an unbeatable location, staff was friendly, check in was a breeze. I would stay again for the convenience and nostalgia alone, but I'd really love to see a more thoughtful, comprehensive remodel to truly bring it up to its full potential. read more

I've stayed here many times over the years with the most recent stay prior to April 2026 being about 9 years ago. This most recent visit was pretty nice. Checking in was smooth. The rooms have been updated and are decent. Housekeeping was decent and the room TV was nice too. It's a centrally located hotel in downtown Norfolk with many eateries and businesses within walkable distance. Overall, not bad. read more

Just return from staying the weekend and will have to say I was very disappointed. Ac can not go below 68 and the fridge is on an automatic timer. Lost all of our leftovers. We asked about this and we were told it doesn't go off. We beg to differ. It only stays on for 2 hours. We usually stay here but not sure if we will the next time. I understand power saving but this was ridiculous. read more

I had a wonderful experience! My hotel room was inviting and comfortable with several amenities. The event spaces were fantastic as well. I attended a large conference while at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott and was impressed that space was able to accommodate such a large number of people. It made the experience even more enjoyable. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Cameron at the concierge desk. I checked in late during a bad storm and was exhausted. He was friendly, helpful and the highlight of a long and stressful day. The entire staff in fact was terrific during what was clearly a busy week! I will definitely return! read more

I recently stayed at the Marriott on Main Street in Norfolk n 3/20-3/21 and unfortunately, my experience was not up to par. CleanlinessThe sheets and blankets in my room were not very clean, which was disappointing. Room ServiceI ordered room service and it took over an hour for my food to arrive. Food QualityWhen it finally arrived, I was disappointed with the quality. The pancakes were hard and barely warm. ServiceOn a positive note, the service person, Brooklyn, was friendly and apologetic about the wait time. She offered a free Starbucks drink and a 20% discount at checkout, which was a nice gesture. Despite the friendly staff, I would not stay here again given the cleanliness issues and the overall experience. For the price, it just wasn't worth it. read more

I came to Norfolk to visit a friend who was in the area for training for Independence Day 2025. I was able to get a good rate on the hotel and it was a block away from where the fireworks were being shot downtown. The location was very convenient. I was wondering why there are a lot of bad reviews and I understand now. Staff: * Everyone was great that we interacted with. I felt very welcome and they seemed attentive when we had an issue with the power comets in the room. We had an issue getting into the hotel from the garage on the first evening. The gentleman at the front desk apologized and said the scanner had been broke for over a week. Challenges: * We did have some challenges during our visit. - One set of plugs in the room did not work. They did send engineering up to check and he indicated that there was a cord inside the wall panel that was unplugged and they would have to fix it. We told him we would be back later that evening. Three days later and it was still not working. - Ice machine on our floor (17th floor) was on but not producing ice. It had a digital menu so I tried to turn it on. The machine indicated that the machine has not produce any ice in the past five months. - Room furniture is ok but some of it is like Ikea. The chest but the TV was coming apart (see photos). Beds were comfortable. - Quietness - we listened to the lady in the room across the hall yell at her children for twenty minutes. - Hallways - our floor needs some work. The wallpaper is peeling in a lot of places. Other floors we visited appeared much better. The room only gets cleaned every other day. They did not tell me that on check-in, and they removed all the used towels but replaced only one set. They did put down wash clothes for my bathroom items, but piled all the stuff onto the cloth, where most places arrange it, if they touch my stuff. The housekeepers that I passed were very nice. I hate to not give it three stars but I can't give it 2.5 on her. read more

A real loser. Came here for a conference, won't make that mistake again. Plumbing fixtures falling off wall. Moldy wallpaper peeling at corners. Not a drawer, shelf or hook to put your clothes. Conference area had no TP in the bathrooms, ran out of food in middle of buffets. Guests getting pushed out of elevators by housekeeping carts. We would have complained but there was always a line of 8-10 people at the front desk- overheard plenty of complaints from them, so I suspect the problems here run deep. Truly memorable- but not in a good way. read more

This Marriott is long overdue for remodeling. Everything seems old, tired and dated. The valet was chaos going in. I booked a king room over 2 months ago, but when I arrived, none were available. The Starbucks in the lobby isn't actually a Starbucks. The restaurant looks like the last remodel was in the 90s. The service was poor. Stay at the Hilton down the street. read more

Can't beat the marina views of the boats. Nice two window room had different angles to look out. Pull out couch was average but less gross than other Marriott (which were stained and saggy). Hardly any amenities- we had to ask for towel and sheets for the pull out. The tissue box had only a few left. Luckily they at least provided an extra toilet paper roll because we needed that too. The bathroom had a nice sliding glass door for the shower but you had to step inside to get the water started which was a little flawed design. There was mold around the caulking in the shower so it wasn't cleaned regularly. The wall above the toilet was stained blue, like from a cleaner. One perk was this hotel had the best hairdryer in the room/ an old baby bliss pro. Some of the other Marriotts have old powerless dryers that take forever. Parking structure was convenient but weekend parking is free on the street. The walkway you the waterside meant going from the second floor, past the bar, through the loud busy exposed garage to a bridge to cross. The food hall didn't have that many options. The Mc running the trivia in the middle was overwhelmingly loud. There are other walkable restaurants nearby. The Hilton seemed to have better options attached to their building across the street, even the Sheraton did too. Bed was comfy, towels were ok. Had trouble getting into our room since the system for online check in was down. So much for mobile key, we had to running back down to the lobby to get physical keys. The elevator was pretty crowded and couldn't quite handle the people here for read more

I checked in for a 4-night stay. First night, no remote for the TV. It took 2.5 hours to get it. Next morning, there is no hot water in the sink. I had to fill the ice bucket with water from the bath to shave. That night, I tried to use the shower in the bath, and the hand wand was broken. I had maintenance remove it, and showers were good after that. The closet had hangers but no bar to hand clothes, so I used the top of the cabinet. When I checked out, tgey had charged me $34.98 per day for valet parking, but I had paid cash at the valet booth for parking. I had to get to the airport, so I used the Marriott Bonvoy app messages, and I have called to speak to a manager, but they still haven't resolved the overcharge. I wouldn't recommend the MB WATERSIDE to anyone. The valet staff was great, I just don't want to be charged twice for parking read more

The Norfolk Waterside Marriott was a real treat. I have been here several times for events but as a Hampton Roads resident this is my first time staying overnight. The event was Granby HS 1972 class reunion. The hotel did a good job on the event. Everyone was happy. Loved the salmon and the service. The beds were so comfortable and the customer service was very pleasant. I will recommend the hotel to my friends coming to visit the area. I love that the parking garage is attached to the hotel by a walkway. Our hotel room was spacious, clean, and enjoyable. We were well rested on that wonderful mattress. The hotel is beautiful and the entire staff cares about its reputation. Managers and the staff deserve a high five for maintaining a high standard if operating this hotel. We spent a couple of nights at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott during our roadtrip. This hotel overall was a good stay for us. The staff had kind of an all business attitude and had no time for small talk with hotel guests. I can't complain much because they gave us a nice room overlooking the Elizabeth River with a great view of the harbor. Our room was exactly what we reserved with 2 queen beds. The room was comfortable and clean. This Marriott had an M Club lounge that was open 24 hours a day with breakfast and evening appetizers. This M Club although they go by Marriott standards with scrambled eggs, sausages for breakfast, and the usual appetizers at night, also had a chef's choice for us to eat. One morning, the chef made a berry waffle bread pudding that was delicious. The staff working in the M Club was like the front desk clerk. All business, no time for small talk or even greeting the guests. I thought I was imagining it until I spoke to another guests about it. The Marriott had a nice gym in it with treadmills, bikes, ellipticals and other exercise equipment. The gym was in good condition and clean. This Marriott was a nice hotel in a good location. Other than the non social staff, I wouldn't mind staying here again. read more

Great hotel. Crappy/ busy valet but the hotel hits every aspect that applies to my one night stay. The lamps in the rooms are even cool with the wireless charging port/ tap feature to adjust the light/ make me feel like I'm in college again. My daughter had a weekend dance competition in one of the halls. We were not guest of the hotel. Parking is by valet or nearby parking garage that the City of Norfolk operates. There is also off street parking that's hard to get and limited by time. I cannot recall if it's metered. We were limited as to where we could move around to. Accommodations were nice for the dancers to prepare. The performance area was a stage built on site, folding chairs were set up. Overall it all worked out well. With only this experience and possibly another years back a 3.5 suits them and rounding down. read more

My wife and I visited the Norfolk Waterside Marriott for a "pre-cruise" stay. It was a perfect way to start our vacation. The overall property is very conveniently located: it is in the heart of the Waterside area with lots of great restaurants and shops, a short walking distance from the Chrysler Museum (a wonderful gem) and --- this is big --- a short 7 minute walk to the cruise terminal! The overall property was clean and well designed. Our room was spacious and had a fabulous view of the Chesapeake. The staff at this hotel is what takes things to another level! Led by General Manager Hisham Ahmed, we had the pleasure of getting to know Marva, Jamya, Caroline and CeeCee who helped check us in and get settled. They made us feel like we were coming home. These talented individuals knew we were celebrating my wife's birthday and planned things to acknowledge this occasion in our room and even during the check-in process! In the morning, in the M-Lounge, Antoine even made our breakfast special. We had fun chatting with Enzo, assistant GM who also gave us a warm welcome. Thanks to these hard-working people, our stay was absolutely outstanding. We can't wait to return. read more

We stayed here for an overnight stay, and the hotel is in the main water front area. The parking is on the next block with an interconnecting over bridge to wall over from garage to hotel. The parking price is okay and not bad. The public parking is more than this. There is a valet parking option available with the hotel. The hotel is very well maintained and the staff is very friendly. We got 9th floor and had obstructed views of the water, and we checked to sew if they can change our rooms to higher level and they accommodated it without any issues and also able to accommodate late check out request. Nice place , nice hotel and nice people will definitely stay here again,! read more

Very nice hotel in downtown Norfolk. I did self-parking at Waterside, so it was a bit of a pain to have to park and walk outside to get to the hotel, but after you check-in you can use your key card to use the 2nd floor door between the two. I was thankful I did because there was a long line to get valet service. Check-in was a bit chaotic with a large gathering going on in the hotel. I probably had to wait 20 minutes. Good number of front desk staff, I think they could have been more efficient about people checking in (a lot of extra chit-chat, I think it's a southern thing). There are some hotels (usually Hiltons) that let you check-in online and get a digital key. Anyway, the elevators are fast, and the rooms are very nice. It was a very warm day and the AC struggled to get to the temp I set, but I closed the drapes and that helped. Night was no problem, it easily reached the temp I set. The room was quiet, and had a large TV with a good selection of channels. I would definitely stay again. read more

I was very surprised when I saw this place with a 2.5 star rating. The hotel is in an excellent location close to Towne Park and makes walking to a large part of Norfolk very easy. It was especially nice during Harbourfest and for walking to many good restaurants. We found the hotel to be relatively clean and while there was some damage to areas and places in need to freshening up, overall it was in acceptable condition. The parking situation is a bit of a pain, made even worse with the traffic from the festival. The front desk people never answer the phone so getting a suggestion on what we should do for parking wasn't possible. Arriving was stressful trying to coordinate with the valets but ultimately worked out. Leaving this morning however, I see why there are so many one star reviews. This was the worst check out experience I've ever had. It took more than an hour and a half to check out of the hotel. There are not nearly enough valets leading to a thirty minute wait for service. The front desk just kind of shrugged it off as business as usual. There are also only a few luggage carts for a huge hotel with over twenty floors and only four elevators. This lead to another 45 minutes of wait time to try and get the luggage down to the car as multiple trips had to be made. Finally when it came time to check out only one person was at the desk. Instead of helping me just drop off the keys and check out (which the people she was helping suggested because their request was more labor and time intensive) the front desk person showed zero situational awareness to an already enraged customer and continued to make me wait another 15 minutes for what should have taken 15 seconds. Like I said, overall the hotel should be a solid four but with the way it is run and the lack of customer care at the front desk I see where all the one star reviews come from. read more

Refurbished hotel that has been here for a long time, and it's a Marriot that actually has keyless entry. Upon entry, I found stains on a towel and a weird substance on the bedsheet. Housekeeping took care of it right away. There is very minimal drawers for clothes. Good TV, lighting, views, comfy room. Fridge in the room and a decent amount of plugs available. Glass shower. Since it's COVID time they are not cleaning the rooms except for every 5 days, or upon request. Sadly, I made a request and did not receive new towels. Decent fitness center. My family has stayed at this hotel many times over the years. We love the location and the many restaurants options in the area. The employees are always friendly and professional. However, the hotel needs some updates. The floor in the shower needs to be replaced. The ceiling in the bathroom needs to be replaced as well. The AC never works. For example, this weekend we kept turning the AC down and it never cooled off. We have reported this issue several times and it seems like they will not fix it. I had a 2 night stay here while working a wedding event and while the room was nice, and the location was perfect, the parking was the absolute worst I have ever experienced. Parking is on a per day basis. $20 per day, $13 if you get it validated. They do have a deck conveniently across the street, and a breezeway connecting it to the building to walk over top of traffic, but the pricing is awful if you pan to go out. You have to get a ticket everytime you go in and out and this can get costly. I dont understand why parking is not INCLUDED in the price to stay the night. View from the room was great. We were on the 24th floor which gave us access to the concierge lounge in the lobby. This was nice as we could come and go and get snacks, food, drinks, and coffee drinks. The person at the front desk Caroline was awesome. We got to hotel early and she went out of her way to let us know as soon as the room was available. Even with a hotel full of Dance Moms. Valet takes a LONG time so if you plan to valet your car definitely give more time to actually have your car ready. I would say the rooms are small but design makes sense for efficiency. I love the fact that the closet was inside the bathroom and luggage rack was there as well so I was able to easily organize everything:) I hated the elevators ~ they are so ancient and the tiles are all so cracked and you can definitely see the age of the building! The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit older. When I looked up some of the feeling was peeling away in the corner of the room. This is one of the worst Marriott properties and surprise That they maintain the category level that they have This is especially disappointing given the Hilton hotel right across the street that is an outstanding and modern property First things first, the staff is great and the hotel lobby gives you a false sense of what you'll find The rooms are dated at past and the air conditioning doesn't seem to really work The concierge lounge furniture is very distressed as is the entire 24th floor that's normally reserved for their higher status guests They Stated they will be modernizing this hotel so will wait to see when that occurs and how long it takes but in the meantime this is not an exceptional full-service Marriott property in a downtown location that you would expect read more

Horrible military customer service. On orders at the moment and they would not honor the government rate. The front desk seemed like they didn't even care and didn't try to help me. Check in was chaotic with no clear line to join to get to the front desk - lobby was full of guests at the time so it was noisy and unclear where to go. Room reserved was not available - they did put us in a "better" room but when you need two double beds and get a king and pull out, it's not exactly the same. Toilet did not work when we got into room - took two calls to front desk to have engineering fix it. Four elevators for 26 floors is not enough, especially when one is down. Pool is overchlorinated - you can smell it as soon as the elevators open on that floor. Also - so many guests smoking right in front of the front door. Hotel should manage smoking area better. Room was clean and housekeeping was good. That being said, we'll stay somewhere else next time we're in Norfolk. read more

We could tell the hotel is a older building with over all new cosmetic renovation which was not a 1st rate design and workmanship, especially the poorly designed sliding bathroom door.
