Stopped in for something relatively safe to do after long Covid confinement. Very happy to see masks mandated. Coming from Massachusetts, wasn't aware that this might be rare in NH. Nicely organized. Pricing is pretty consistent, if a bit high. Great selection of doors (starting at $450), fireplaces, doorknobs ($95 for crystal doorknobs front and back) , and newel posts (starting at $450). Would definitely return if we are looking for any of these specifics. Their consistency, in terms of multiple options in doorknobs, doors, etc means that it is worth paying a bit of a premium. Nice but not huge selection of leaded glass on 2nd floor. Fun buggy outside (not sure of the price). read more

Had a window pickup for a client from Noreast this morning. My wife and I drove 3 hours one-way for two large windows. When I arrived I spoke with John who did not seem to pleasant but I wasn't there too buy. Because of the size of the windows I asked John if he delivered he said yes but did not offer it to my client. After I examined them and was satisfied they were what my client wanted we started to load. The large size determined the loading direction. I discussed this with John and his helper, John seemed less then happy the windows were going to have to be turned over to fit. Then said to me that he would transport them laying down. Any one that has ever transported an 8' single pane glass would never do that, it will break under its own weight. As the first one went on the truck I am reminding John about the loading direction, which he snapped at me and said quote don't speak to him like that or him and I will have a problem. I ignored the comment and moved on too the next window once loaded. Asking my wife too step out of the truck to give me a hand holding the first while we load the 2nd . John and his helper retrieved the 2nd as they brought it over I noticed it was turned the wrong way and again explained to John about the loading direction which he again now more forcefully explained that him and I were about to have a problem. As I again explained the loading direction issue John this time said he would now come up on to my truck and settle this problem. At this time I decided deescalate the situation by terminating the pickup of the windows. I told John that I would not be taking the windows and he would need to put them back where he found them, which he refused at first, and then I explained to him forcefully that the window were coming off my truck one way or another. At this time John's wife appeared at the door.I held the window while John and his helper set the 2nd one back they then came back I handed my end to his helper and left. As you would imagine my client was not happy over this situation. I have made many pickups throughout New England, NY, PA and NJ for this client alone without incident. My client was kind enough to send me full screenshots of the conversations he was having with John's wife about this. John wife explained John best and I Quote " John can have a temper" this is an understatement. Please read there 1,2 and 3 star reviews before buying from them, attitude, lies and general misconduct seem to be a recurring issue. read more

DISHONEST. Nor'East has very sketchy practices. I've witnessed them quote different prices for different people for the same items...I initially thought I misunderstood but I no longer do. If you choose to buy from them online demand better photos...things arrived to our job site damaged and when I inspected the photos they were photographed at flattering angles that deliberately hid the damage. Yes, Donna, I understand these aren't new items. But I've never encountered anyone in architectural salvage who was this dishonest. I was satisfied with my first purchase but my second and last washed all the good will away. Buyer beware!! read more

Disappointed. I was so excited to come here that I opted to do it on my birthday (much to my husband's surprise!) Two stars because they have some incredibly interesting antique items here...old cash register, ice cream bar, beautifully detailed and completely unique millwork and hardware. It was thrilling to turn each corner and see some real history. But we weren't just looking- we had a shopping list and walked out with nothing. The prices were so high that it really turned me off- for "basic items" everything was close to $1,000 or more it seemed. I understand that these items are pretty much one of a kind- but I didn't expect for a door to be $900, or a (broken) newel post to cost $450, or a tiny window to be $500. I just saw the same ones on Craigslist for $60! I agree with the other post that was written- the prices are shockingly high. I'm headed further North to a similar store - when I checked online their prices were half what I saw here and it further confirmed my thoughts. To top it off- we tried chatting with the staff and they were less than interested in making conversation. Didn't see much being sold that Saturday... It's worth a drive if you're looking for entertainment, but if you're looking to buy you might want to try somewhere else first. read more

Don't waste your time going to this place. We found something on their website that we liked and called to ask them to hold it for us. They said that they would pull the item and it would be waiting for us when we got there. My wife and I then drove an hour in a snow storm to pick up said item only to have them tell us when we got there that "someone must have stolen it." Meanwhile we overhead another guy working in the store say that he had sold it the day before. They do have nice looking items on their website, but the people working there are horrible to deal with and you have no way of knowing whether that stuff is actually what they have in the store. read more

My female companion (The Human Tape Measure) and I, her assistant with the checkbook, are renovating and enlarging a little old cottage-y shack, so we've made the rounds over the past five years to virtually every architectural salvage operation on the Mass North Shore, in the Seacoast NH region and up into southern Maine. When we go, we have specific items we seek, we're not going "antiquing." We've found Nor'east to be among the best of the bunch among salvage dealers. Here's why. One: Broad selection in each category. You can find another dealer that has more doors and another that has more period chandeliers or more reclaimed timber or more among whatever category you choose. But Nor'east has a wider ranging inventory within each of the basic categories. Sure, the place up in Maine had 2000+ doors and a sign boasting the largest door inventory east of Chicago. But, 1800 of those doors were junky and among the remainder none of the style we wanted could be found. Nor'east had perhaps a quarter or less of that total inventory on hand, but we quickly found three good doors in our style to choose from. Two: Pricing/haggling policy. Nor'east tags every significant item and keeps a computer lookup for little stuff that may not be tagged. You're able to see the price or quickly find any item down to the smallest chunk of hardware. With architectural salvage, pricing is highly subjective. It's buyer beware, for sure. When I go to a salvage yard, being the checkbook bearer, I don't want to talk to flea marketers, American Picker wannabes or, worse, antique dealers with built-in price cushions so you get the illusion of a bargain when they drop the price. Just show me what you want for it, make it fair, and don't inflate it so you can offer me a discount. If I do want to enjoy the thrill of the price haggle, I'll go to a used car dealer. Three: Actual price. Most important, of course, is the actual price. Hang around one of these places for a little while and you'll discover casual shoppers who come in expecting to find thrift store prices and leave in disgust when they find out that the cast plaster ceiling medallion they think should be $20 is actually more like $100. We've found Nor'east prices to be fair and consistent, with occasional bargains. (Some of the light fixtures were priced lower than expected, I thought.) Common hardware and what are commodity items in the salvage world are priced fairly (cast iron sinks, pine cabinets, leaded or stained windows, etc.) I bought a nice, big slab of granite with no defects for a porch landing at what I considered a good price -- less than one-third of the cheapest local retail hardscape suppliers. I haven't found other reviewers' claims that prices are outrageous to be true with anything I've looked for. Goodwill or Salvation Army are the places to go if you're looking to find a great deal. Architectural salvage yards don't equate with junkyards or flea markets, in my view, and the pricing reflects this. Four: Customer Service. At some salvage yards I've been to, customer service is an oxymoron. At Nor'east, you won't get a kiss and a hug but you will get competent assistance if you ask for it. The two proprietors are reserved and somewhat circumspect but they've always been willing to answer my questions, go out into the yard with me to help find an item, and offer advice about my project if asked. I also have found the yard guys to be very accommodating. Not to de dismissed is the Nor'east return policy: I found that you may usually return an item for credit if you get it home and it doesn't work out the way you thought. Tha's a big plus. read more

I have gone to this place many times, always in search different things. I have recommended clients of mine, go there for ideas and interesting grabs to be used in projects I am designing for them. I recently went up to source some salvaged wood boards for a project I was working on. The first time, it felt like I was putting the guy out to look at different piles of wood. Then I asked if I could just pick through myself and he said no he does not want people pulling the piles apart. Then there was an excuse about needing to pull a bobcat out to move stuff around...anyway, I was able to get some material without much problem. However, I ran out and needed to go back for more. The second visit, I was greeted by a worker who told me I was not able to pull boards out and look at them. Some rule was that I was to just get a pile loaded from the ground into my truck. I chatted with him as to why, and he said, they get left with all the trash boards because people pick through and take all the good ones. Wait, you mean you want to sell trash boards to people? Wait you mean you want to over charge for this wood and sell boards that are unusable? I just ignored him and pulled the boards I needed. I was able to get enough wood for my project and decided I will never go back. Additionally, I will never tell any of my clients to go there either. This is really too bad, customer service in a place like this is so crucial. People need help, people need advice, and they need someone who does not try to sell them trash. If you go here, do not expect much in the way of customer service. You will definitely find a lot of treasures that are in fact overpriced as others have mentioned. I wish these guys luck with their business plan, however they will not be getting any more business from my company or clients, which is really too bad. read more

This place has a terrific selection of old house parts - lots of unique ones too. I've been especially impressed with their stained glass, doorknobs, lighting, and bathroom fixtures. They also have unique items like spiral staircases and cupolas. It is pricey, but not ridiculous. My only complaint is CLOSED SUNDAY? It's the second biggest shopping day of the week and one of my only days off. Huge bummer. read more

I have been restoring 150 to 300 year old houses for 40 years. I am presently looking for a door for my own 1890's cottage and had high hopes that I might find something appropriate here. I traveled from Outer Cape Cod after visiting their site and bookmarking several items. When I arrived it quickly became painfully obvious that I had wasted my time. As others have noted, the prices are exorbitantly high for the quality. I will not deny that you might find a gem in the hay, so to speak, but I was deeply disappointed. Doors that I have seen in dumpsters were $125., windows with dry rot on corners hundreds of dollars, stair parts and newell posts that are chipped and scratched looking like they were left outside for the Winter for $450. or more! Let us not forget that anything you get in the salvage business has a high probability of needing to be refinished, that comes with the territory, lead paint is likely to be an issue, repairs, both minor or major are to be expected - but these facts should be taken into account with the listed price. I agree with a previous comment that it is obvious why they do not list prices on their site, I never would have bothered going there if they had. read more

I've restored four houses - three nineteenth century and one eighteenth - so, clearly, something damaged me in my childhood. I've shopped around New England and New York and PA for items for forty years and I think Nor'East is one of the best. It's the quality of the objects. If you love early twentieth century marble sinks, you'd probably love the one I bought there a few years ago; or the entry door on our last house. They basically have terrific examples and their prices are very fair for that quality. read more

I have been in this store before with no luck, and thought I would try again, had a list of items I was looking to buy ...there were 3 large items i was looking at. had a measuring tape and asked if someone could help me ..just wanted to make sure it would fit...got the eye roll and be there in a moment. ask the woman that was working if they deliver and trying to get information about items, horrible customer service, she was more interested on her phone than give me the time of day..she could have cared less. Huge stock of architectural salvage, but customer service is poor if non-existent. Bought a rather heavy and bulky item (spending @ $250) there recently, and was told by the owner "it's out front", then walked away with no "Thanks" nor help loading offered on his part. We then spent another 45 mins looking for Newel posts, finally finding two that worked, only to be told that because they were marked as a set, they wouldn't sell us only two-- if we wanted them we had to take all four, at considerable cost. When we asked that, given we had just spent $250 with them, could they make an exception, we were told by same owner "then I'll have to re-photograph and re- post them on the website...(ie too much trouble to go thru for another $200 sale). Their attitude seems to be one of taking the customer for granted, with little consideration, no accommodation, and no sense that, if the buyer is happy, the buyer spends more, comes back, and recommends the place to their friends. As is, none of those will happen. read more

My husband & I are lovers of old houses & antiques. Walking in the door is an eye popper. The selection is unlike anything we'd ever seen. We were looking for old white pine flooring, which we found. We got the wide planks we sought. The over all prices were a bit steep, but if you don't mind doing some sanding - you couldn't beat the price. We'll be back again for our next project. read more

This is a great store. The location and parking is good and the items they have are true antiques. I am a three time customer ,so far, and will be back. I found the prices to be reasonable considering this is a store selling antique items not to be confused with Walmart or chapter 11 specials!! . I have been to places with much higher prices and smaller selection so I am very glad I drove the hour south to stop by.
