My mother, sister and I arrived to Göteborg by train in the late afternoon, and after navigating…read moreour way and checking into our AirBnb, we were famished and ready to hit the town to find someplace good to eat. Except, a lot of places seemed either kinda touristy or closing soon. We were on the verge of breaking down and eating at Burger King (I KNOW, LOL), when we walked down a small side street and noticed a sign for a "Grakisk Taverna." Hoping this translated to Greek food, Restaurang Sirtaki looked like a cozy, promising spot for a good meal, and we were not disappointed.
Our hostess/server was charming and lovely, and appeared to be a one-woman show attentively caring for all of the diners in the restaurant. The restaurant is cozy and has a very homey atmosphere, as if you are in the home of a Greek family with their art and photographs displayed throughout. Very nice ambience.
The food was EXCELLENT. My mother ordered chicken kebabs and roasted potatoes, and I ordered pork kebabs with rice. Each came with onions, peppers and tomatoes on the skewer - yum! We shared a few bites with one another and everything was fantastic. My sister ordered a beef patty stuffed with feta, served in tomato sauce, and she ate every bite. Oh, and one more thing -- GET THE GARLIC BREAD -- TRUST ME. You may want two orders, it's that yummy.
I certainly hope to revisit Göteborg someday, and if I do, I will definitely be looking forward to a meal at Restaurang Sirtaki.
