If I could give zero stars I would. The doctor was running more than 1 1/2 hours late. When I politely verified that we had an appointment I was treated as if I was lucky to be seen there and I should just sit down and shut up. My daughter is showing symptoms of what might be a life threatening disease. Dr. Truong wouldn't consider trying to help diagnose my kid because her lump was beneath the skin. The doctor laughed as I grew frustrated, got mouthy instead of apologetic, raised her voice at me, and spoke over me instead of trying to help by AT LEAST listening so she understood my goals. We waited for a month to be seen only to be treated worse than I have EVER been treated. DO NOT waste your time or money or risk your health by going to this place. read more

I did not have a good experience with this office and in my opinion this is not a patient-centered practice. Go elsewhere if you can. The background is that my dermatologist of 10 years changed medical groups and no longer accepted my insurance. I asked my doctor for some referrals so that I could have informational interviews and choose the best dermatologist for me. I initially had a great experience with the office staff and scheduling an appointment. When I arrived I was asked to fill out new patient paperwork. I told them I was not yet a new patient, as I had not yet chosen who to see. I was asked to go into a room with a person I assume was the office manager. I explained the situation and said I just had a few questions for Dr. Truong. The office manager told me "she doesn't do those (informational interviews)". I said well you wouldn't hire someone to work here without interviewing them with you? I just want to make sure it's a good fit, couldn't she just do five minutes, even a phone call? She was very understanding but said "she doesn't do that". I said that it didn't seem very patient centered. She understood and said it wasn't her practice. I said that was all I needed to know, I thanked her and left. It makes no sense to me that the doctor wouldn't spend five minutes with a potential new patient to make sure it's a good fit. I have a family history of skin cancer and my business would very likely have resulted in thousands of dollars of billable time. I realize most people just accept whoever they are referred to, but for those of us who are careful with our health care decisions, finding a good fit - someone who you feel that listens and that you can communicate well with - is vital. It's a shame that Dr. Truong thinks that it is not important. If you're looking for a practice centered on patient needs, look elsewhere. read more

I went to NorCal Dermatology to have laser hair removal done. They saw me a total of 9 times, coming to a total of $2,325. The service did not work AT ALL. I was told to keep coming. I decided to do some homework since I blindly trusted the physician. Turns out laser hair removal DOES NOT WORK ON REDHEADS, which I am. The Dr. Knew that and continued to take my money for a service she knew would not work. I called and left a message asking for a refund as it is not ethical practice. No return call, so here I am. I had the pleasure of going to see Dr. DeGroot today for the first time. First, in the times of waning COVID, most medical offices are struggling to play catch-up. I was grateful to only have to wait a week to check a suspicious skin problem. All the staff is efficient and friendly. On the day of the appointment I was seen on time, which again is unusual these days. I found Dr. DeGroot highly competent and welcoming. I love a doctor to speaks to me on their level and encourages research of particular conditions. He was quick to write down some Google "homework" to learn more about my condition. I had a very good consultation on my sun-damaged skin age 60 with actinic keratosis with Dr. Truong. She was very attentive, co-operative and discussed several treatments I could try, and advised me on the options. It was no rush and no upsell. Very Questionable Ethics... This is a husband and wife team, both with affable personalities. I saw Dr. DeGroot, who referred me to his wife for a chemical peel. The peel was brutal, but the outcome was good. My problem is with the deceit and unethical behavior of Dr, Truong who insisted in giving me a Botox treatment during my first visit. I was anticipating my daughters wedding, so when they told me the Botox would last 3 months, I said that I would think about it, and perhaps do this treatment in a month or two, closer to the wedding. She insisted i try it right away, saying that I would become addicted to this treatment, and I could do it again just before the wedding. They offered me a 20% discount, for treatments going forward.... and then she offered me a 30-33% discount going forward in exchange for using my image in advertising, which was reinforced by her assistant... I conceded. The treatment left me with bruising that lasted two months, and didn't really address the areas of my biggest concern. But the kicker was when her assistant came in at the end of the treatment and revealed that they had prepared this same treatment for a patient who cancelled on them that day, and they didn't want to lose that sale!! After my peel was completed, I asked them about the treatment I actually WANTED, and they quoted me a very high cost for this treatment. When I asked about the 30% discount, they told me there would be no discount, and that the 20% was "only for the initial treatment." In short, this husband and wife team looks like a racket, and Dr. Truong will clearly say anything to meet her goals, with little regard for the patient. I was a Mohs surgery patient of this office. I will never be again. Without going into the entire ordeal, let me just say traveling nearly one hour on the day before Thanksgiving for my scheduled appointment to remove my sutures and get the wound evaluated, only to find out nobody was in the office to do so, was the final straw. I will remove them myself I guess. I usually only leave reviews of businesses we love, but see this as a public service announcement. Go elsewhere. My experience is similar to the other one star reviews and with all the other dermatologist in the Santa Rosa area, you can do better. read more

I had an annual check-up with Dr. Henry DeGroot. He briefly checked my back and then noticed a spot on my left alar crease. He did a biopsy, injected my nose to numb it then shaved the skin. He bandaged it. An assistant instructed me to change the bandage daily for five days. After she left, I got up to leave and my nose bled profusely. The receptionist saw me. I was brought into another exam room. The doctor had to cauterize the area. He began the excruciating procedure then gave me another injection to numb it. After cauterization, my nose was bandaged and I left. I was told I'd get results in two weeks. Two weeks later, I had to phone for my biopsy results and I left a message. The next day, they phoned and I was told the biopsy results were positive for a basal cell carcinoma and the doctor would call in a prescription for a cream to apply on the area each night for six weeks. She said she'd have further instructions mailed to me (U.S. mail), which came three days later. Why didn't I receive instructions the day of the biopsy? I applied the Aldara/imiquimod cream, as prescribed. I researched and discovered it was chemotherapy cream (which the doctor never mentioned to me). After two weeks, the area became extremely sore. I experienced all side effects: itching, burning, redness, ulceration, scabbing, flaking, and pain. It throbbed. It was crusty, scabby, oozing, and turning darker each day. It was nearly black. This couldn't be normal. I photographed my nose. I phoned my doctor because this frightened me. He visits the Santa Rosa office only on Tuesdays from 8am-12pm. I was given the option to see his partner, Dr. Khanh Truong the following day to assure me that everything was "normal." I saw Dr. Truong. She looked at my nose and said, "You look like crap." I said, "I'm quite aware of that." She said this was a normal reaction and the good news was the cream was working. She had me stop using the Aldara cream and to use warm water on the area until the scab came off. "You can add some salt to the water." I asked if she was suggesting warm compresses with a washcloth or cotton pad. She said I should just use warm water, no specifics. She brought me a sample of cream to use after the scab came off. The cream was Cloderm. This information: https://www.drugs.com/mtm/cloderm.html states that it "is used to treat the inflammation and itching caused by a number of skin conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis." I asked why I wasn't told that the Aldara cream is a chemotherapy cream. She said they don't like using that term. She repeated that I look like crap and the reaction is completely normal. I left with my records, however, they neglected to attach my biopsy results. I got a second opinion with a new doctor who completed a full exam, using a bright magnifying lamp to check my back, face, and particularly my nose. IT WAS INFECTED! The records written by the assistant at NorCal Dermatology were signed by the doctor. The following statements on the appointment records were ALL FALSE. They never did a thorough exam as quoted in their report. They never told me how to treat the biopsy and stated in their report. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT GO THIS THIS FACILITY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH! read more

What a great experience. From the moment we walked in everyone was professional and friendly. We met with the Dr. and she first asked us what it was about our skin we wanted help with. Never at all did we feel pressured to do anything. She gave us our options and walked us through what could be done. She spent well over an hour with us answering questions and providing us facts about our options. We had a few things done during the visit. I've never written an online review before but my experience with Dr. Truong at Norcal dermatology was so traumatizing I felt compelled to write one. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Truong because I'd lost volume in my upper cheeks and was hoping to restore some of it. The nurse, Melony, suggested I get Sculptra. I later found out its not recommended for anyone under the age of 35. Melony also told me that Sculptra was reversible if it turned out I didn't like the results. During my appointment Dr. Truong immediately begin injecting with Sculptra with out even asking where I wanted volume added to my face. While she was injecting I was trying to explain that I didn't want it in the places where she was putting it but she completely dismissed my concerns. I called back 2 months later to tell Dr. Truong I was unhappy with the results, she informed me that it was not reversible with out considerable risk and that she refused to reverse it because it involved steroids, which could potentially dissolve all the fat in my lower face. Hello! That might be something you'd want to mention to your patients before injection, NOT AFTER! Over the phone, Dr. Truong said "sometimes patients don't like the results but don't worry it will go away in two years". Two years is a long time, especially when you're 23! I was considered attractive before, now I have jowls, chipmunk cheeks, a completely crooked smile and one side of my face is noticeably higher than the other. The office manager refused to refund my money and Dr. Truong put no effort into finding a solution to fix my face. She destroyed my looks, she recommended and performed a procedure not approved for use on patients in my age group and her employees gave me misinformation. I waisted $1,3000 and every morning I look in the mirror and kick myself for choosing and trusting Dr. Truong with my face. My advice is consider a reversible filler like Voluma, Sculptra can leave you looking deformed and if that happens there is nothing you can do about it for two years and sometimes even longer. I've even read horror stories about it triggering autoimmune diseases in prone individuals. Whatever you do though, don't let Dr. Truong touch your face! read more

I went in to see Dr. Truong about an allergic reaction that was manifesting in hives around my chin. She barely looked at me for two minutes before telling me it was actually acne. She said it was caused by improper use of a topical medicine she had prescribed me years ago, that I hadn't used in at least 6 months. I tried to explain that but she just told me to go purchase two products from her front office and gave me a new prescription for the topical ointment she just said caused this breakout. I was a little confused but figured she must know best so I bought the products which cost about $50. AFTER I made the purchase the receptionist told me it was non-refundable. I consulted another doctor who told me that whole thing was ridiculous and that it definitely was not acne. He even called the office to explain the misunderstanding. I went back to try and return the un-opened product hoping they'd be nice given their mistake but they only offered me a giftcard. Two weeks later I got a bill for the product as if I hadn't already paid it. When I called to inquire the woman on the line was really rude and kept treating me like an idiot and telling me I needed to pay the bill until I finally made her understand that these products were paid for, and even though I returned them, I was not reimbursed. They still have the money. She said she'd look into it. I have not heard back. I even tried to leave a note for the doctor in the hopes that she could help with the refund, explaining the misunderstanding and why those products weren't really what I needed right now. I never heard back from her either. I used to really like this place, but now I'm really disappointed. After reading some of the other reviews it seems I'm not the only one. read more

Although Dr Truong seemed very caring and competent, communication with this office is nothing short of impossible. My husband needed to find out about how a medication he was taking might negatively interact with a new medication he was prescribed and we never were able to get in touch with either the doctor or nurse who could give him advice. We have paid my husband's bill, although he may have transposed two numbers and shorted them around $20. They never recorded the payment, it's impossible to get in touch with their billing department, and they have sent our bill to a collection agency for the full amount! read more

I've been wanting to right this review for a while now because I often get depressed when I look in the mirror after having Mohs Surgery done at Norcal Dermatalogy. Almost two years ago I went in to see Dr. DeGroot for a skin cancer check up because I had a small black spot on my nose. Dr. DeGroot said it probably wasn't anything to worry about but I told him my dad had one on his nose so he decided to cut it out of my nose to send to the lab. I thought that he would just scrape some off the top but he took a nice chunk out without telling me. It looked like a acne crater after he was done. I couldn't believe it!. So even if it wasn't cancer I would be left with a deep scar on my nose. Two weeks later one of his staff called me and told me it was basal cell so I better come in and get it removed. I came in and told Dr. DeGroot I was worried about the scarring and he said that it was the smallest cancer he had seen and not to worry. After the surgery I was placed in a waiting room which was packed with people who just had similar procedures. There were so many people that there were no seats for people to sit and the staff at the front desk were to busy on the computer to get these poor people chairs after having surgery. Amazing! An hour later I was sent back into a room and one of Dr. DeGroots assistants came in and gave me a piece of paper on how to take care of my nose which I thought was horrible. I felt Dr. DeGroot should have came in told me himself but all I received was a piece of paper from a rude assistant nurse. Later I went home and I still hadn't seen my nose and what it looked like. Later on that night when I changed the bandage I couldn't believe how big the incision was. The Basal Cell was on near the tip of my nose and the incision went a quarter way up my nose. I wish I would of took a before and after procedure picture to show people on Yelp why I'm giving Dr. DeGroot a bad review. A week went by and my stitches starting coming out so I made an appointment to have them checked out. Dr. Khanh Truong was there instead of Dr. McGroot. She came in still chewing on her sandwich she was eating examined my nose. She decided to take the stitches out which seemed to soon after being stitched up. She said I would be fine and sent me on my way. A year later I came back to NorCal Dermatology to see if anything could be done about my scar. Dr. Khanh Truong tried to sell me a laser treatment package which I found out later through 4 other dermatologist that laser treatment would not do anything for my scar because it was to deep. Because she took out the stitches early, the scar spread out and was much deeper. This is something I see everyday when I look in the mirror. Before you get Mohs surgery done at NorCal Dermatology take a before and after pict of your basal cell. Better yet find a dermatologist who has better reviews on Yelp when dealing with Mohs Surgery. I should of gone to Yelp first before I went there. I found that Marin County has better people qualified if you need Mohs Surgery done. read more

Dr. Truong is great! I've been treated by her for skin cancer issues from the sun, as well as using her for Dysport, Restalyn and Laser treatments. I've been going to her since 2011 and she always makes me feel and look so much better! She's very personable and her staff very helpful! Love her as my dermatologist! I want people to know if they're looking for any dermatology needs, they don't need to look any further. I started going to them for Tattoo removal. I had been going to another place for over a year, with measly results and it cost a fortune. Then, I discovered NorCal Dermatology. They have a state of the art laser and It faded my tattoo ten times faster than the place before and for half the price. I can't say enough about the staff. They are the kindest, most welcoming and knowledgable staff I've ever encountered. They make you feel so comfortable and explain everything in detail. Mostly, I deal with Melanie. She's been so patient with all my questions. There isn't a question she can't answer, She knows it all and makes you feel at home.
