It's not just about getting certified, they really want you to learn the skills you will need to be a safe diver. ALSO, seeing the kiddos bounce in and out after swim class is just about the cutest thing in the world. I had a chance to watch two of the kids classes and the swim instructors are SO friendly with the kids, and celebrate their successes. Buy local! We have gone here for almost 2 years and I used to rave about it to everyone for kids swim classes. All the good teachers quit. Over the last couple of months, my kids were able to practice in a tiny portion of the pool, because they were trying to squeeze in as many kids in there as possible. A total joke and waste of money and time. They asked us to be patient, and we really were! Kept on coming because we figured, it's Tom's, we love them.... Only to cancel our private class all together and prioritize group classes. After canceling our lessons due to lack of staffing, they refuse to refund us. We have a credit but no available times that works for our schedule.

Miss Tiffany, and the ISR method itself, are really in a class all their own…read more I have three kids; over the past 3 summers we have tried two of the most "popular" Austin swim instructors, both of whom use the "put 'em in the water and make 'em figure it out" method. If you read reviews of these swim providers you see terms like "brutal" used a lot, and for us it was exactly that, for me and the kids. While it didn't traumatize my oldest, it was am miserable process for us both. Worse, after 2 weeks of lessons, my middle child literally refused to go near the water for the entire rest of the summer (and he is not a particularly sensitive kid). Just as important, for both kids (I was not ready to put my youngest through those lessons at that point, given what they entailed), while they could "swim" at the end of the week/2 week sessions, I had zero confidence they'd ever actually be able to save themselves from drowning. In fact, they spent so much of those lessons swallowing pool water and vomiting it up that I was afraid they'd have exactly the wrong response should they fall in the water alone. The great news is: Miss Tiffany completed turned all of this around. After a 6 week session with her, not only could my 2/3/newly 5 yr olds could all legitimately swim / float / swim (including in both summer and winter clothes) significant distances, but they all loved the pool! We did not have a single traumatic day in 6 weeks - no child cried, soiled himself, or vomited, all of which regularly happened under the stress of the previous methods' lessons. Miss Tiffany is SKILLED. She is clearly highly trained, with proven methods. She is patient, gentle, and firm. The kids not only respect her but like her (and so do I). Because she gives them skills and confidence, they also enjoy swimming and want to do it more frequently. She has an ability to see what each child needs and provide it on an individualized basis. I cannot recommend her highly enough, and we are and will continue to take regular refresher courses with her. The kids are *thrilled* with that plan, and I'll be forever grateful we found her. She has completely changed our family's relationship with the water.

The ISR…read moreapproach was very effective for him, and Miss Tiffany is a great teacher, very consistent in teaching the ISR steps, both firm and kind. I watched her interact with several different children of different ages and comfort levels, and adjust her approach accordingly, while remaining patient with each child's individual needs. In our case, the challenge was not crying but instead overconfidence and an above-average lung capacity. This made our little guy more resistant to learning the turn-over-and-breathe part of the process. But Miss T. kept meeting him where he was, and challenging him a little more each time. Now, I'm glad to report that we have a little ISR swimmer, and a whole lot less nervousness (and a lot more fun) when we are near a pool.

And ...I definitely can see how they might not be for everyone. However, WOW! Emler has a methodology that really works - it empowers my kid to want to show me what he learned vs me pushing to level him up. Big dynamic shift and as a mom who wants to be fun in the water with her kids, not a "teacher", this is really valuable when we're practicing. More importantly, they have been incredibly accommodating with us as we juggled timing issues etc and have bent over backwards to ensure both of my kids get the most out of each lesson. All of the teachers we've had are excellent and the whole staff is just the bees knees

This class really pushed him to the next level and within 6 months our son was jumping into the water staying several seconds under water and floating on his back. He loves the songs and props and always talks about swim class and reenacts it at home. Jaide has been a phenomenal teacher, pushing the students just enough to get them to improve each week. She also knows when to be more sensitive when they are experiencing fear and needed to go easy that day, ultimately building trust with them. We have also had makeups with Sami, Bella, and Isaiah and they are also phenomenal with the kids. Such a talented team at Emler - you can't go wrong! Thank you for teaching 2 year old how to swim, float, and stay safe in the water.

I'm amazed at how Ms. Ashton keeps track of where each kiddo is at in terms of their skills and what they like/don't like. She is patient and an absolute gem. I cannot rave about her and Waterloo as a whole enough. Just a few comments about Waterloo - we have had an amazing experience. From 2 of our kids being tentative to swimming to now loving it and seeing all the growth in their swimming is incredible. Today I watched one of my kids swim the length of the big pool and do a flip turn. There is no way I can do that as an adult. I'm amazed at not just the skills they are learning, but also the attention to form and technique. Overall I…read moream very happy with our experience and I would consider taking lessons with them again as my kid grows. They are professional, safe, and focused on feasible goals for my kid's age of familiarity and comfort in the water. The teachers were calm and encouraging and worked with the fact that sometimes my kid loved being in the water and other times didn't want to get in. They are very available for calls by phone to work with parents on makeups or questions. I didn't feel able to give a full 5 stars since there are some things the school could improve on. We often had a different instructor each week, which I admit was a bit hard for my kid feeling nervous in front of a new person (the pandemic and being isolated hasn't help with people skills meeting new teachers so I know this is exacerbated to this year). But even besides that, the different teachers often didn't know that my kid was in their class, we would walk up and they would act surprised, oh they are in my class too? I think there could be better communication between the instructors and to the instructors, and a better job encouraging the kids at the start of the lesson (e.g. give us your name at least!) Secondly the temperature of the pool at the Marriott location is inconsistent. Sometimes warm, other times cold. If this could be fixed it would be very helpful for the younger swimmers. I think these are things that could be easily improved on to make the experience even better. Overall I am happy!
