There was only one other table seated, so we were able to get a table right away. The menu is quite large, and we ordered the pork dan dan noodles and garlic cucumber salad. Service was very slow. It seemed like there may have only been one person cooking, as dishes came out one at a time, and ours arrived about 30 minutes after ordering. When the food did arrive, the flavors didn't quite land. The dan dan noodles were bland, and the cucumber salad tasted more like plain cucumber with some sauce; it didn't seem marinated or seasoned. A friend who used the washroom mentioned it was in rough shape and lacked a way to properly wash hands. Thankfully, she had hand sanitizer with her. I really wanted to support this spot, but between the underwhelming food, long wait, and lack of cleanliness, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it at this time. I hope they're able to make some improvements.

They said they could make it without added peppers), while my husband and I each got combos - his was spicy while I got marinated pork. Restaurant was not busy at 5, so we ordered right away and food came pretty quickly. My kid ended up loving my noodles so she ate loads of noodles, thankfully. My husband and I appreciated all the side dishes that could be incorporated in the meal in our combos. I ended up just putting everything together but I started adding stuff incrementally. Thought service was great, food was great, and speed was great. We loved having something different for dinner (traveling we ate fast food and then had random pastries and a high tea earlier). Would love to return next time we are in Victoria.

I think the right word to describe the food here is hearty? It just really hit the spot after a long day of walking around Victoria. There is nothing fancy about this spot but the food is delicious and unique and the service was friendly and fast. I would definitely come back here.

It was lunch so I got basically the lunch special choice of 3. I got vegetable chow mein, they use the very thin noodles which makes so much difference they are so much better than the big fat round noodles you get at a low of Chinese spots in America. The fried rice was good, reminds me of old fashioned fried rice. The honey garlic chicken was good nice crisp to it. Overall good meal, not super fine dining, not super authentic but good eats. The vibes were immaculate, the host had epic 80's rocker hair I loved it.

The wonton soup was to die for. So flavorful and fresh. The wontons melted in the mouth. The chowmein was good but felt a little bit over-sauteed. I enjoyed the chopseuy though. It was perfectly seasoned and nicely paired with the chowmein. The prawn tempura style side dishes were average. So was the honey chilli meatballs. The quantity was a lot and definitely sent us home with takeaways for the next day.

The broth was flavorful, and it was loaded with chicken, meat and shrimp plus lots of wontons with both pork and shrimp. Service was quick and the server was very attentive to us. I was very surprised that at 6PM, we had to wait a few minutes for a table because they were very busy. I looked at some of the dishes coming from the kitchen and they looked large and smelled wonderful. I would certainly recommend J & J if you want a good Chinese meal.

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE It's tough finding authentic Chinese…read morefood in Victoria, but Lee's puts out a decent offering that would be worth considering. It may be a hidden gem tucked away in Gordon Head! === 2. FOOD For this takeout order we tried... Shrimp Swirl Egg on Rice: As you can see in the pic, there's not a lot of swirl egg in there, but over the dish was pretty good without being too salty. Szechuan Green Beans: They were decent; good flavour, and in my (subjective) opinion, not too spicy. === 3. SERVICE It seems like one can converse in English or Chinese; the staff certainly spoke Chinese to each other even if most of the patrons were non-Chinese. They all wear masks - in a respectful manner per the Chinese culture. Service was reasonably quick. === 4. ENVIRONMENT Was this a western diner-style family restaurant before? I'm not sure, but it doesn't fit the typical Chinese restaurant stereotype. Dark interior with the old-school lights over the tables suggest it was perhaps an ABC Country restaurant or some other diner-ish establishment before. Regardless, those with wheelchairs and baby strollers can fit in just fine and parking is somewhat plentiful outside in the shopping complex lot.

Sweet and sour pork and vegetables with meat had flavour. Partner was not happy with food. Soy sauce added to make food tasty. Usually when I order from most other restaurants I never add soy sauce because food is tasty when dish arrives. Plus most chefs are offended when you add condiment before tasting a dish. Chinese tea and fortune cookies were provided. Restaurant only had a couple of other sit down diners when we arrived. Staff was nice. Will order different dishes and dishes with with BBQ meat if I ever go back to see if cooks were having an off day today. Been awhile since I ate here. Entire bill was paid but my partner wanted cost reduced due to disappointment of dishes. Tables were a bit tight for larger parties but everybody appeared to be enjoying themselves still. Steady flow of customers that were tourists and locals to pick up, delivery service and purchased goods (meat and pastries) to enjoy outside of restaurant. Walls were nicely painted. Tables were clean. Located in Chinatown where there is street and parking lots. Partner is interested in trying meats at home in the future. In the past I purchased their BBQ meats, duck, etc. along with pastries to enjoy at home that were always tasty.

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE 3.5 stars: as fellow Yelpers have…read morenoted: the name of the restaurant is a bit of a mystery, as none of the cuisine comes from Hong Kong; they serve a very different style of Chinese food more reminiscent of the Szechuan/Sichuan region in China. While the family-run business serves dishes that are more authentic, one might find of it limited appeal if you're looking for non-spicy dishes (or you have young children), environment, or value. === 2. FOOD Green Beans and Peppers While the flavour is good, you cannot order this without spice/heat and so this makes it a bit of a non-starter for some (many?) young children. The crunch of the vegetables is there, but the portion size for $20 in a takeout container is not. Shrimp and Celery Thankfully, this is the least-spicy dish and mostly edible by young children. The Shrimp was nicely deep-fried with a thin coating of batter; this is a solid choice even if the portion size is small (well below fill line of a smaller takeout container for $20). === 3. SERVICE They serve you in English or Mandarin and overall it is pleasant. The food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time. === 4. ENVIRONMENT This is more of a hole-in-the-wall: you're not coming here for the ambience (which is limited to plain white walls, red tables/chairs, and fluorescent tube lighting interestingly mounted sideways on the walls rather than the ceiling). You could probably fit groups ranging in size from 2 through 8 but I'm not sure I'd bring anyone in a wheelchair or baby stroller in here easily. Parking is available in the back.
