Ahh Hurstville, as if I needed another reason to like you with your selection of quality Cantonese cuisines, yet you've done it again...this time it's a nostalgic HK noodle-cart style noodle joint. For those who's not familiar with noodle carts, they were popular in the 90s in HK when street food sold in mobile carts that was not technically legal, but 'tolerated' and plentiful along the streets. It's basically a mini buffet selection of toppings that you pick to go on top of your egg noodles, topped with five spice and chili sauce. Nom nom nom.
Now I must warn you this is a food court joint with noodles served in disposal bowls, spoons and chopsticks, but that's part of the experience (traditionally eaten on the side of the street). In fact, if you ask anyone who grew up or frequently visited HK in their heydays they'll tell you their greatest food experience is eating from street food carts and at outdoor food markets, not fancy chain restaurants or Michelin star restaurants. And for an hour today, Noodle Cart took me back there with their well balanced flavours, al dente egg noodles and delicious chili fishballs. Happy days. read more
