Pleasantly surprised by this wee Italian restaurant.
I went for dinner with my boyfriend last Friday, it was on my list since long time, but i have to admit that the location (Newton Mearns) always discouraged me. Anyway, i had a £20 voucher so what better excuse to finally go?
The interior is very simple but warm and welcoming and it also has seating available outside. They have a menu of daily specials as well as the a la carte menu - wide selection to choose from, and also gluten free options, thumbs up.
We were welcoming by Gianni, one of the managers - he provided an excellent service and gave us a treat.
We ordered drinks, my boyfriend went for an Aperol Spritz and i got a Bellini.
As starters we ordered olived and focaccia rustica, very tasty and portions wayyy satisfying for a starter. For main course i had seabass ravioli - oh my god they were amazing! Fresh, creamy, rich, lot of filling inside the pasta which you could taste it was fresh and handmade - proper Italian! My boyfriend went for the burger pizza - a kind of calzone filled with a burger and tomato sauce and topped with mushrooms and ham, with a side of skinny fries. It was so huge, he couldn't finish it all, but it was very tasty.
Despite been really full, we couldn't say no to dessert, so i ordered a tiramisu (again, fresh, homemade, made with Italian Savoiardi biscuit and creamy mascarpone - 10 out of 10!) and Patrick went for two scoops of icecream (they use Equi's icecream).
Overall, great dinner and great food, this is the sister restaurant of Il Pavone and i have to say it is way better in terms of food but also service. Too bad it is so out of Glasgow, but i guess once a while it is worthwhile, especially if these are their standards! read more
