Nomad was closed today. Normally, I would not leave a review simply because a business was not open the day/time I visited, however, there were many employees inside (they didn't say anything about hosting a private event so I don't think that was the reason for being closed)
I completely understand when businesses have to unexpectedly close for a day- family emergency, power outage, low inventory, staff unavailable to work, food shortage, etc. They don't owe us an explanation, but it was quite odd that they were fully-staffed, the lights were on, and the parking lot was decently packed. It was also the manner in which they peeked out the door, rudely said "we're closed today", and shut the door in our faces. I would have preferred they just let us read the tiny sign on the door (not legible from the parking lot) to avoid the interaction altogether
Regardless of the curt exchange, we were more disappointed in the fact that the employee saw us pull up to the very front of the cafe/parking lot (Nomad has its own lot so it was very evident we came with the intent to dine there), then waited to step out the moment our taxi left us behind. This was pretty frustrating and hurtful, as it took us a while to pay our cab fare, thank our driver, and put the wallet away- in which she had plenty of time to let us know they were closed before our ride left (especially because there isn't a taxi service or bus stop nearby Nomad). With the way the hostess abruptly shut the door on us, she did not even give us a chance to at least ask to borrow a phone to call another cab
I feel compelled to leave 2-3 stars because of the way the employee addressed us. We ended up going to Triboa Cafe which was amazing, so if Nomad is closed again for undisclosed reasons or you have a similar off-putting experience, check it out! It's only about a block away read more
