One of my favorite things to do in a new town or city is check out the local grocery store/supermarket, and this one, THIS ONE, with actual real-live vegan options, is like a dream. Granted, I don't know how to read Dutch, so most of the ingredients were a mystery to me, but I've gotten pretty familiar at spotting the Dutch words for 'milk' 'egg' and 'cheese', so I felt fairly confident. I also have a Rotterdam-born friend with me for last-ditch translation if needed. The variety of foods was overwhelming, in the best possible way! I found an excellent vegan mayonnaise (the mayo was for a potato salad, which turned out excellent and impressed all the picnic-going omnivores), bought a round of Cheesley Mozzarella, and picked up a tiny package of vegan bratwurst, just for fun. I was sorely tempted by the rest of the refrigerated section and naturally by the chocolate aisle--so many amazing looking vegan chocolate bars, including a white chocolate. Whaaaaat?! I would shop here quite frequently if I lived here. A great selection of organic food with a healthy vegan section. If you're traveling through, this is a great store to stock up on a few special vegan treats, and there's vegan/vegetarian cafe right next door if you're hungry.

Pasta lovers will feel their harts alight with all the beautiful plates and bowles to eat their beloved pasta in. Pasta is no joke here! Foodalicious Food & Gifts has self-made pasta or pasta imported from special places in Italy. There are self made (olive) oils, vinegars and balsamico. Foodalicious is basically a foodie paradise. Once you've stepped in you don't want to leave, foodie or not. The China in here is so pretty en original. It cost's a bit more, but you also get more. Better quality, originality and a lot of eye catchers. You can buy whole sets but also loose items. Whatever you want. They look stunning on your dining table when you entertain. I love their bowls and cops/ mugs the most. Personnel in Foodalicious Food & Gifts have a great deal of knowledge and are happy to share it with you. You can ask them a lot about food en the working materials that goes along with food. They have a great selection of pots, pans, wok pans and even tajines. This place absolutely saved my palate after weeks of deep-fried seafood (with mayo), fries (with mayo/peanut sauce and onion), and many hash joints. I still remember I got the nasi goreng and chicken sate, and they were absolutely godsends, especially after a long time of having the flavour I was not the biggest fan of (mayo). I remember I brought a kiwi with me for this meal, and the flavour also blew her mind as she hadn't had anything like this in her own adventure in the Netherlands. Getting here is an easy walk from the train station, but I was running late so took the bus and that was super quick too as there were 3 buses with a stop near to this restaurant. Our server was great - he made me an off the menu cocktail when I told him the flavor profile of what I like to drink. Food wise, I ended up getting the Gumbo (cause when in Louisiana, right!?) while two of my dining companions got the ribs (I was eyeing this too) and a burger rounded up the last person on our table. We also got chips and that came in a sharing bowl rather than individual serving portions which was a bit weird. My gumbo was really delicious but it only came with two pieces of shrimp! Admittedly they were big shrimp, but I still would have liked some more. Lots of chicken and then a decent amount of sausage rounded up the gumbo. I also had a taste of the ribs and those were bone meltingly tender with a fabulous sweet and tangy glaze. Both the boys gobbled their plates up. We were pretty full up after that meal, so didn't get any dessert and to be honest, none of the very Americana dessert menu items appealed to us. Another time I might order a milkshake tho' cause those flavors looked interesting. Cost wise, between the 4 of us (and we all ordered drinks) the total was €114 (rounded up) so just under €30 per person, which is decent considering alcoholic drinks were involved and we all know the mark-up on those! Loved the loo signage - go check it out but OMG the actual stall size was super small and uncomfortable. The barstool seats on our high top table too were massively uncomfortable! I'd have stayed longer except for my bum protesting about the hardness of the seating. Lots of purple colored lights, to invoke that Mardi Gras mood I guess, and so all my photos have that tinge, however want to assure folks reading this review that no purple looking food was consumed on the night!
