Used to go to shoot smart to the private lanes but not a big fan of the indoor ranges. They had plenty of open areas for a 25, 50 and higher distance. As well as a handgun section on the opposite side. We didnt have to wait on either side for access to a spot. They were very good amount the gun safety and making sure everyone was responsible with not only the time to change targets but also with making sure people properly were facing their rifles when down not in the wrong directions. This was my worry at a public outdoor range, but they were on top of it and highly appreciate it. Only downside is no FMJ rifle ammo allowed. So you either have to pay a lot for a box through them or stock up prior to. There was a small group of young people trying to one hand shoot to "be cool" which was kind of irritating, more because of the stupidity factor. But most people at least on the rifle side you could tell are gun enthusiasts who care about their shot and their weapon. Definitely my new go-to range.

Northwest ISD says it tried to work with the owner on safety improvements and couldn't even get a commitment. The district isn't asking to shut the range down. They're asking for reasonable safety measures to keep bullets from leaving the property. How is that even controversial? Every gun owner knows you are responsible for where your rounds go. If there's a credible possibility rounds from my range could be reaching a middle school, I'm doing everything possible to make sure it can never happen again. I'm not making the school district sue me. I support gun ranges. I want this one to stay open. But responsible gun ownership means taking safety seriously, especially when kids are involved. Fix the damn problem.

Dually noted, at times they have to deal with people whom cant follow rules put in place for safety reasons. For this reason some arent utterly laid back: understandable right! Ive always found that the target backboards to be in good shape. The benches at 25 and 50 are good and sturdy. The 100 yard benches in my opinion wobble a bit, but are acceptable unless your neighbor is shooting a magnum caliber. I do wish they had a 200 yard range. I have found myself driving to decatur to shoot beyond 100. When its cold out they typically have a burn barrel with a fire going. *There are numerous Donald Trump signs on property, snowflakes beware. Get some wobble out of 100 yard benches, add a 200 yard lane, and my rating goes to 5 stars.

The staff definitely go out of the way to make it a fun time and make sure that you are enjoying yourself. If you have any problems you can go to them and they instantly handle it for you. The field itself is well taken care of and unlike other outdoor fields they actually take care of the grounds and your not running around in an overgrown field. There is a Pro Shop on site that has an assortment of things that you may need if you forgot something and everyone in the cabin and the Pro shop were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend going here.

The only compliant, granted a very significant one, was that their Air Conditioning in the private suites was NOT WORKING. There was NO mention of this when we signed in online. Further, NO ONE at the counter mentioned this to either of us when we checked in -- perhaps they thought we might -- somehow‍, not notice, that it was over 100° inside of the private suites/indoors?? When we checked out, I said to my brother "I'm guessing they'll likely 'comp us' for half or maybe all of the range fee (as we bought ammo, targets and supplies too) because of the hours long sweating in the un air-conditioned private suites?" ...But NO, no such accommodation was made. I have to say, THAT was an EXTREMELY POOR CHOICE for Shoot Smart to make. I have been going to that range for many years -- and yes, they knew it at the time. However, I may very well NOT be going back.

One example is when I was there yesterday, looking to purchase a gun which I have purchased many guns there, as I was looking at it and the young lady that was helping me ask me to make sure I keep the gun pointed down, OK I get it but it's empty and has the plastic piece in it and then the next guy as I'm sitting there is also looking to purchase a gun and he has it pointed at her and all over the place for several minutesand doesn't say a word to him! Also with our membership, we get 5% off gun purchases and on my last purchase, I asked them what they could do on a used gun I was looking at just to see if they could come down on price and they gave me a price acting like it was a great deal but shorted me $14 of even the 5% that I'm supposed to get on the gun. These are employee issues and not facility, as far as the facility is concerned I've had no issues.

A very clean and nicely maintained shooting center!…read more If your in the DFW metroplex area and want to experience a high level shooting center look no further. One of the owners is an Team USA Olympian and they support a lot of local High School's shooting programs. The grounds are professional and the clubhouse is well stocked with gear. They feature Beretta shotguns and apparel. When taking a tour of the facility I was lucky enough to talk to one of the owners and he let me sample on of their premium over/unders and I was loving every second of it! Long story short, if you are into the shooting sports and in the area, look them up!
