Try going in there with a baby or a couple of kids and telling people it's such a great pub.

It was very welcoming and clean with all new bathrooms with cozy robes, complimentary beer, fizzy water, biscuits, and we enjoyed some great food. Breakfast was included. Also very dog friendly! They provided a dog bed for the family dog. Oh and very lovely beer brewed on side! Will be back for sure!

An absolute gem of a pub in one of Devon's prettiest, most tucked away coastal villages. The…read moreMason's Arms is, quite simply, a fantastic place in every sense of the word. I've stopped off for a snack or a quick drink a couple of times, and it's always really impressed me, and the lunch my parents and I had recently ranks as one of the best pub dinners the Andrews family can remember. Their crab sandwiches were fresh, as were the fish in their delicious creamy leek fish stew, while the ploughmans was huge. Desserts of chocolate and pecan brownie and banana fritters with toffee sauce were gobbled up. Ok, it's not cheap for a Devon pub, but the food is worth every penny - there was hardly anything on the menu I didn't want to scoff down. The pub itself is a charming sprawl of wooden rooms, and a small seating area out the front. It's homely and although the staff run a slick operation, they're still friendly and helpful. The pub was recently taken over by St Austell Brewery, so there's a good range of their beers, plus a couple of guest ales. This includes one local beer brewed in Branscombe. It's quaint, delicious, comfy and sits in one of the most stunning areas of the Devon coast. It is, quite simply, a perfect pub.

Off on one of our bi-annual jaunts around the country we always leave on a Sunday to avoid the…read moretraffic, if that is at all possible these days. My partner looked for a B&B around the Dartmoor area and came across The Cridford Inn. Looked really 'quaint' and most of the reviews were outstanding, so she booked. The drive was interesting, some say exasperating. We loved it, driving down hardly used lanes with just enough passing places. Then, suddenly, the Inn appears. Parking up we noticed two guys, obviously locals, having a pint. We immediately felt at home with the greeting that they gave. We have been to pubs where as we entered it went deathly silent. Not the Cridford. The young lady that was behind the bar was no different, friendly and very jovial. Showing us to our room after taking details of breakfast etc. and giving us the 'lowdown' on the Inn. The room was really lovely with a very soft bed, TV, Tea/Coffee facilities. The bathroom with fluffy towels and everything you could need on hand. So far, PERFECT. Does that perfection stop there, IN NO WAY. Sitting in the bar having a pint there is so much to see in every direction. Bric-a-brac everywhere. A bar full of various bottles including about 100 different gins. Beautiful tapestries adorning the walls. So much of interest to us both. Dinner in the evening. There has to be a 'down' somewhere. Again it wasn't at dinner. A meal ordered of roast beef Sunday roast. So much juicy beef on that plate with wonderful roast potatoes and parsnips. A small bowl of cauliflower cheese and various other veggies on the plate. Naturally, a Yorkshire pudding. Forget a dessert, too full. Wonderful way to finish that day. And so to bed. Really nice nights sleep with very little noise to disturb. The birds in the morning were a delight to listen to. Down to breakfast. A wonderful full English with locally sourced ingredients. OK, only one point here, and not a complaint just a pointer. No juice or cereals offered? Straight into the full English. In our case it was enough but some may query it. Finally, would we return. An almighty YES from us both. Thank you everyone for making our one night stay very special. We heard that the chef was leaving on a cuisine education tour of Europe. We wish him all the very best of luck. Thank you, again, everyone. See you soon.

Lovely surroundings and easy to get to. Not a bad menu and at £26.50 per head for a three course…read moredinner very reasonable. However.. We waited and age for our meals, over an hour in fact. The waiting staff were clearly stressed and being badly let down by the fact that there was a full restaurant and hardly any kitchen staff apparently. I must say the food was good but I will Not return due to the poor service. It is a simple equation isn't it if you can't manage your covers then you either have too many tables it not enough staff. Try harder The Cridford Inn and I may give a better review.
