It continues to present regular art exhibitions, but also offers all sorts of intimate musical events, fashion, lectures, poetry, book launches, and use as a charming event space. The building dates to the 1890s and has served many functions including a flower shop, a yoga studio, the first location of Denver Free University, and a photography studio. It's conveniently located in the heart of the Uptown neighborhood. Parking can be a little tricky, but there is usually a spot to find within a block or two and if you've got parking karma--right in front. I'd call the art that Leon presents eclectic. Some of it I like, some I hate, but it's always thought-provoking and occasionally inspiring. Leon tries to find emerging and underrepresented artists, but also provides a space for established artists to experiment in a way that's difficult at more commercial galleries. Leon's motto is, "Outliers Change the World," and long-time director, Eric Nord, strives to do that. Leon is an interesting part of the Denver arts scene and is worth many visits.

It's small size affords good, friendly communication between the patrons and allows for conversation with the artists. The brick walls are an idyllic backdrop for the different works of art rotating through. While it's slated as a venue for emerging artists, some are already well on their way. This venue has a great location, brings in quality local works of art, and will make for a fun evening out.

Anyhow, Smith-Klein is a fav place to ogle art on the Pearl Street Mall. The collections frequently change and are always of the highest quality. Besides paintings, photographs, and sculptures, Smith-Klein has a great collection of art glass, one-of-a-kind jewelry, and an amazing collection on totems. There are some great metal rabbit sculptures in the front of the store these days that I'd love to take home with me. I've seldom purchased original art, but the prices seem reasonable to me. I hope they get the sculpture back from the kleptomaniac family. Weirdos.

Nick Ryan, long-time assistant to Bill Havu at the William Havu gallery in Denver, has opened an…read moreelegant and surprisingly expansive gallery in Boulder, tucked in the rear and basement of a small commercial strip on Pennsylvania Avenue. Look for the round "NR" sign at the edge of the gray brick building (Al's Barber Shop), then walk down the pedestrian alley on the left side of the building until you come to the gallery entrance. The gallery is a pleasant surprise. There's a large, well-lighted space on the main floor plus a hallway and other nooks. You can then take the stairs to the basement to find another nice exhibition space. Nick focuses on established contemporary artists with regional, national, and international reputations. He has a great eye and every exhibit I've seen is of absolutely top quality. This gallery should not be missed.

What a great gallery to have in Boulder, especially on the Hill. Between long time residents,…read more visitors to the two large new hotels and art appreciation adults across the city and state that visit regularly to CU, this is a nice collection,some local artists some national. This is not art for a dorm room. It's quality original art. A friend and I stopped in on the way to lunch on the Hill. This renovated space is perfect for a gallery. Though previously everything from office space to a bicycle shop, blending different building ages and styles for this use gave it a unique feel. Original hardwood floors, stark white plasters walks, glass block to let in light without street distraction and white painted high ceiling hvac is the perfect structure. Nick was present to answer some questions. Every piece on exhibit has an assigned number and the printed inventory list is available for visitors to take as they browse. The container is on a table on the lower level. It includes the name of the artist, the name of the piece and the price. Not outrageous, appropriate for the quality and for homes or offices. I wish I still had need and room for more art. If you do, stop in and take a look. A new collection will be going up soon. I'll stop back in the winter and take another look.

As such, there was little redeeming about it unfortunately. The art almost exclusively looked like it belonged in the headquarters of a corporation, and cost as much as well. Just like the Cherry Creek festival, little caught my eye....which was a damn shame, since I think events like there are pretty cool usually. Alas, I'd rather spend a day at the dog park, or the Farmer's market, or sitting at home and staring at the ceiling....seriously.

A small bit of the Bus Stop affordable housing development in North Boulder has been carved out as…read morea gallery space, part of the NoBo Art District. Parking is very difficult as most of the surrounding streets are marked, "No Parking." There is a lot for tenants behind the building which is marked, "Permit Only," but the gallery manager said it was OK to park there. The gallery is in the northeast corner of the building, facing Broadway. The space is long and narrow. A wall of glass overhead doors limits exhibition space, but provides lots of light. The gallery showcases work from the 250+ NoBo members plus work from established artists along the Front Range. The front lobby of the gallery contains the NoBo Artisan Gift Shop which shows original art, decorative objects, and gifts. The space is available to rent for commercial and private events.

Denise Demby is an accomplished abstract painter and sculptor. This space was originally opened to…read morefocus on her day job at the time, a kitchen and bath design showroom, with space for her studio and a display of her art. The art became more and more of a focus over the years until the design showroom finally went away and this became 931 Gallery, showing Denise's art full-time. This has changed again over the years as Denise began showing work by other artists. Eventually she developed a co-op/collective with a group of a half-dozen like-minded artists plus some associate members. The rotating shows are generally of high-quality, well-curated, and definitely worth a visit. There's a limited amount of true abstract expressionism shown around town (outside of the Clyfford Still Museum) and this is a good place to see it. Denise has accomplished a lot with her single-minded devotion to art.

It is a non-profit, interactive and immersive gallery, with a focus on new technologies in art and design. You can find it across from the Buell Theater and next to the Prelude + Post restaurant. Cutting-edge exhibits are student curated and managed. They often involve partnerships with major artists and other cultural institutions. The space is free and open to the public. Exhibits can vary in quality, but are often challenging and interesting.
