The cashier happily exchanged the multiple Pound coins from the machine into notes for us. We used to criticise British 'Pokie' machines for being tricky and complicated but this was a lovely surprise. There are the usual 10p and 2p push down machines in this arcade but we didn't touch them this time. Staff could have smiled a bit more.

Its not like there aren't already fruit machines in every pub and bar across the country... On the plus side for this one, it isn't as obnoxiously loud as others I have been to, so you can at least leave without a headache. The only problem I have with Gamer Heaven is that I, myself, have ordered something back in November and only until I wrote on their Facebook wall did I receive a response, I tried emailing them days prior to finally just going on their Facebook page where they seem to have a lot of customers with the same experience as me, wondering when their order is going to be shipped out or where the rest of their order is. I understand that they are a small company and it takes a while for them to complete the high volume of orders, but at the same time it seems like they don't do anything unless you write on their wall. If I had known or read their wall posts, I definitely would have asked about my order sooner as I know have to wait until the new year to get all the gifts I bought for my friends. All in all, a great store. They just need to pull up their socks and respond to emails, and ship things out on time without having to be hassled.

Palace Pier is truly a blast from the past, with its fish & chips booths, other snacks and candy stalls (including the infamous "rocks"), a couple of bars (Harvey's Bar being closed off-season, or maybe permanently), carousels and what not. All very cramped and crowded, I must say. In the summer it's buzzing with activity, (almost) to a fault. Off-season (here: mid October), it's much more muted, with many of the attractions being closed, and not too many small children around. Still, a must-see of any visit to Brighton, I've been there a dozen or more times over the years.

Going back you notice the tackiness of it all but maybe that's half the appeal. It's like one big sensory overload, with flashing lights, bells and bleeps going off in all directions, vying for your attention. As for the rides, well they're bigger, badder and better. Pricey business at £5 a go, the big swinging pendulum is great fun if you've managed to retain some childlike innocence - and the fact it's all happening essentially out to sea never gets tired. The pier is Brighton's most recognisable structure, and obviously becomes a tourist honey-trap come summer. But it's all in good spirits and you'd have to by mighty cynical to write it off altogether.
