Palace Pier is truly a blast from the past, with its fish & chips booths, other snacks and candy stalls (including the infamous "rocks"), a couple of bars (Harvey's Bar being closed off-season, or maybe permanently), carousels and what not. All very cramped and crowded, I must say. In the summer it's buzzing with activity, (almost) to a fault. Off-season (here: mid October), it's much more muted, with many of the attractions being closed, and not too many small children around. Still, a must-see of any visit to Brighton, I've been there a dozen or more times over the years. read more
