You are either a Home Depot person or a Lowe's person, and you can tell from my previous review I…read morewas in Camp HD. Then a terrible experience with a dishonest contractor affiliated with another HD required me to learn the layout of Lowe's and I'm finally comfortable shopping there. (It helps that nowadays you can look up an item online before you go and find out its location rather than wandering the store wondering where they stashed it.) Anyway, these days I'm focused on contactless options so let's start with that. I ordered an item online for store pickup, something I've done often in the past. It usually takes a couple of hours for them to pick the item then I get a notice it's ready. This time I ordered in the early afternoon and it wasn't ready till the next morning. When I got to the store I pulled into one of several spots reserved for contactless pickup and followed the instructions on the sign to call pickup. They said just come in and get it and I explained I was taking advantage of the contactless pickup. That cleared up, they brought it out in a few minutes. As to the merchandise in general, I'd say Lowes and Home Depot have pretty much the same stock and it's priced pretty much the same. Lowe's gives a 5% discount when you use their credit card so that tips the value strongly in their favor. Checkout less convenient than at HD because there are no self-checkout kiosks. Finally, I'm not going to get into politics in a Yelp review but you might want to google "Home Depot founder politics" and that might well tip you in one direction or the other.

UPDATE: Shout out to Store Manager (Mario) for working with me to resolve this situation…read more Good to know some people still have a heart and can apply logic despite "policy". Thanks again! ---- Original Post---- As a homeowner, my husband and I have shopped in both Lowe's and Home Depot for over 20 years. We have spent an extraordinary amount of money in both of these stores. We rarely need to make returns, but we just had a recent instance of having to return 5 bags of polymeric sand because we decided to have the job done by a contractor. I saved the receipt and my husband went to the store to return the sand. It was a VERY UNPLEASANT experience to learn that there is a 90 day window on returns (with receipt) and NO EXCEPTIONS ARE GRANTED FOR A RESELLABLE ITEM such as polymeric sand! Needless to say, we have made our LAST purchase at Lowes and I will be sharing this VERY NEGATIVE experience EVERYWHERE I can.

Whether you need to replace outdated or broken items (hoses, toilet seats, light bulbs/fixtures), you need the actual tools to fix things (wrenches, hammers, saws, drills, etc.), you need to make existing items look better (varnish, paint, sandpaper), or you need hardware of any/all kinds (screws, nails, bolts, pipes, etc.), it's here. And that's just the stuff I've bought over the past few months. They've got tons more stuff, most of which I don't even know what it is because I'm an unhandy city boy. Perhaps this is a small-town thing, but the staff here seems like they know...everything. They've got valuable advice if you want it, and I'm betting they can either come out and fix stuff, or know who you can hire to do so if you can't do it yourself. Some of the items can be a little pricey compared to a big box store or the internet, but you're also paying for expertise and convenience, and shopping local is always a good thing. As a nice bonus, everyone here seems to be pretty nice, too.

They are a typical home town style True Value hardware. People many times come in to buy hardware or plumbing supplies - but most often they are looking for advice, answers, and help. Its that typical deal where most of America thinks they can do themselves only to find out that they are not entirely sure how to finish said project and need to ask some questions. Allen and Palmer has a variety of employees that are experts on in home problems and answering questions. They also have several guys on staff that are Master level plumbers. James Decker works on the plumbing crew there and seems to know his way around anything mechanical, plumbing, heating, etc.... There is undoubtedly a bit of mark up on items purchased here. This is because they have to ship things so far. And indeed it would cost you more than the difference to drive to somewhere more urban to purchase the same items. I would highly recommend this location for almost anything you might need in the Northville - Sacandaga Lake area.

I think sharing the parking lot with The Fresh Market is a good thing, because you can now pair good food with good kitchen equipment very conveniently. I liked the selection of items and utensils in the store. I hope they put some focus on unique and specialty items, because otherwise they're competing with larger chains like Kohl's and Bed, Bath & Beyond, who can just inundate the market with inventory and coupons. Support the small businesses!

My opinion of the store itself has not changed. This update reflects my most recent experience…read moreusing online ordering and curbside pickup. The store handled it a lot better than the software behind the process. I used their website on my laptop to create the order. When selecting a store, it did display all of the nearby stores. However, unlike most other websites, when you look at a specific store, there is usually a "Make this my store" link. There was none here, it simply remembers the last store you looked at and assumes that's the one you want. So remember to check in the upper right once you begin creating your order that you have the right store. The website is very good about indicating what is or is not available in the store. However, once you order something, you have to indicate for every item you order, whether you want it for delivery or pick-up. It defaults to delivery. The first time I tried, I didn't realize it until I opened checkout and saw a delivery fee, when I realized I forgot to specify pick-up for one item. There is a box for text input at the bottom of the form when you check out. However, the first time I added something to it, the outline of the box turned red, and I got the message "Invalid special characters." I couldn't figure out whether they meant the period, the comma, or the apostrophe, as those were the only non-letters. I wound up trying two more times, but the only acceptable input I could make was no input at all. There are 2 spots in the parking lot for pickup. The sign says you can notify them by either calling the number on the sign, using the website, or using the mobile app. Well, I didn't use any of these methods. I had the email order confirmation on my phone, so I used the link in the email to open up a notification page (so I guess maybe website?). I liked that they had an option to indication the style and color of your car. But again, I had the same problem with the text box when entering text. I could only submit it without text. But after that, an employee had to come out to my car and verify my last name, because this method didn't actually associate my order to the "I'm in the lot" notification. Once that was straightened out, they brought out the order quickly, with no problems. None of these problems are show-stoppers, merely speed bumps. But I have a background in software test, and stuff like this irks me. It felt like they didn't test everything. But I was glad to receive an email from TSC immediately after receiving my order in which I could provide feedback. Would I use this process again? Yes, but with some changes to how I order items, based on this experience.
