Doctor Heftler is a first-rate dermatologist, not a psychotherapist. When I visit i prefer to be in and out. I am looking for results, not conversation, from this capable physician. Fortunately, that is what i have received in his office: empathy for my issues, analysis of the problem, and a thoughtful strategy to treat it. Oh, and the Doc has a sense of humor! Dr. Heftler is amazing. I had a mysterious rash of boils/bumps/blisters under one arm. My doctor did not know what it was and sent me to Dr. Heftler. Dr. Heftler's super nice staff got me an appointment the next day, sent me the paperwork ahead of time and when I came in, took me right away. Dr. Heftler looked at the rash, diagnosed it, gave me samples of an excellent fungal infection cream and called in a prescription. A few days later when the culture came back, his staff called to say I needed to be on antibiotics too. The mysterious rash cleared up in a week. Excellent staff, excellent doctor and follow-up care. I will never use this doctor again. A couple of days before my stitches were to be removed and I get the lab results, his office calls to cancel and reschedule to next month!?! 'Is he going on a last minute vacation? What about his patients?" I asked. "It's ok to have stitches for a month" was the reply. NO, IT'S NOT. read more

After threatening to change Dr.'s they called back and made a time available for me. Guess you just have to push a little. I found the receptionist at the office to be very nice today and like Dr. Heftler as well. I was told by the staffworker i didn't like earlier that he see's a patient every 10 mins though, which explains a lot of these reviews. read more

Dr. Heftler is the bomb. He's one of the best dermatologists in the city and here's why: When I call for an appointment, I can actually get in to see him. Do you know how hard it is to find a dermatologist in this city who will see you the same day you have a massive break out. He's fabulous at being on time for appointments. The best thing I can say about Dr. Heftler is that you can get an appointment and that you don't have to wait for too long in his office. But this is a man who seems not to like to deal with patients too much. He comes in, checks you out so fast that you won't have time to finish telling him what ails you. He gives you a prescription and instructs you to come back again. And then he leaves. Suppose you have a rash that you suspect related to something else--he doesn't really want to hear about that something else. He treats what he sees and no more--true to his calling, skin-deep. If you ask too many questions, you'll get that condescending contemptuous stare and a very quick dismissal. If you go to see him, I hope you have a very simple, straight-forward, and easy to diagnose skin problem. You won't like his response if you ask him anything beyond what's on your skin--and you are gonna hate yourself for being stupid enough to even ask a doctor a medical question! read more

I saw Dr. Heftler for over a year to treat a common skin problem. He designed a regimen at my first (quick) visit, and subsequent visits were simply to provide refills. He was not concerned that the prescriptions weren't working despite very careful compliance. When I expressed concern, he told me to keep doing what I was doing and come back in 3 months - that sometimes these things take a while to kick in. This happened at every visit. I eventually had enough and stopped seeing him. I started with a new dermatologist who was somewhat bewildered by two of the prescriptions in the regimen he had me on (she said they did the same thing and it was strange I was on both), and prescribed an all new regimen. It helped about 80% within a few weeks, and when I went back for followups, we tweaked the prescriptions to the point where I'm now 99% improved. Dr. Heftler's office was generally quite efficient (easy to get an appointment) and pleasant, but I'm very glad I stopped seeing him. read more

I thought Dr. Heftler was professional and thorough, and very efficient. He knew right away what I was in for from reading my chart and didn't waste any time. I didn't even need to really say anything before he already knew exactly what I needed. He sent me out with a script and his office staff was very helpful in making sure I didn't have and hassles with it at the pharmacy. I have had beautiful clear skin ever since and as much as I love Dr. Heftler, I actually really haven't had to go back to see him very often except for my annual skin check and getting my botox done every 4 months or so. I would recommend him for both medical and cosmetic dermatology and have had both done here. read more

I found Dr. Heflter to be adequate, at best. I went in for a prescription refill for rosacea medication and he barely gave my face a cursory glance before filling out a new prescription. I also had him do a body check which went very quickly and he neglected to look at my scalp. When he checked under my bra and underwear he didn't tell me he was about to which I think indicates bad manners; my other doctors inform me just before they are going to expose my body. I think it's easy to get an appointment because he simply isn't that popular. read more

I agree 100% with Terra below. He comes in and out so quickly, doesn't even try to understand what your skincare patterns are, skincare concerns, and just spews out what medications he is going to prescribe you. Then he writes out the prescriptions and exits, leaving his assistant to explain the meds to you... And if you have any questions about the meds, the assistant may not be knowledgeable enough to answer accurately. When my face broke out in a rash, I went to him for the very first time, and he literally spent 5 minutes with me and left, and he was not even busy. He just doesn't seem concerned with providing his clients comfort, attention, Or sharing his expertise. He seems very uninviting, does not have good customer service skills, and he also looks like a geek and not very intelligent. read more

I went to Dr. Heftler to treat an skin condition I've have for a while (ongoing adult acne). It had really been irritating me because I'm already quite short, so with the acne I looked almost like a teenager! I was almost at my wits end until I made an appointment with him. It was easy to get an appointment, and the receptionist was lovely. Dr. Heftler prescribed a regimen that really helped clear up my skin, identified what I was doing wrong in my skin care regimen, and my acne has definitely gotten a lot better. My coworker even commented on how nice my skin looks now. Dr. Heftler was efficient and helpful. I'm really glad I went in to see him, I feel a lot more confident now. One worry that I do have is that my skin will become resistant to the new regimen I'm on and my acne will come back, but so far so good. read more

I have been going to Dr. Heflter for years. He is the best! I am always able to get an appointment, and the office is always running on time, which is great for me when I need to be back to work. Recently, he diagnosed and treated an infection that other doctors all missed, and he and his staff were incredibly attentive and gave such personal service, calling to check on me and changing prescriptions as needed. In the past, he has also noticed several suspicious spots that needed to be removed. For people that complain the visits are quick, yes they are, as Dr. Heflter knows what he is doing and works very efficiently. If you are ever uneasy, or have questions or need more time, the Dr. will spend time with you! I couldn't be happier with Dr. Heflter and his team, and would recommend him to anyone! read more

I work in fashion and take aesthetics pretty seriously. Well, the time had come for me to get a little work done. Two of my coworkers suggested Dr. Heftler. The appointment was easy to make. The office was beautiful, clean and modern in Midtown in the Architecture and Design Building. The Doctor spent the appropriate amount of time with me in consultation and agreed with me that "less is more" and that I did not want to look "done. The Doctors prices were certainly not cheap but the injections were perfect and precise and most importantly the results are subtle and I am very, very happy with them. A great experience all around! I would definitely recommend Dr. Heftler without reservations and will, as he advised, come back for a skin cancer screening. read more

I am really surprised by the negative reviews. I think Dr. Heftler is terrific. His office is incredibly efficient - it runs on time, is easy to get an appointment, the office is clean and the staff is courteous. As for the doctor, he is also efficient. He listens to your problem and is knowledgeable enough to quickly address it and make a recommendation. He is not warm and fuzzy, but he is very professional and seems extremely competent. He is a little brisk, but, hey, isn't that just par for the course in NYC? read more
