Dr Ainspan gives clear explanations for necessary treatment. He is thorough in his examination and doesnt rush the patient. He has a gentle touch and is soft spoken.. His office space is different from any that I have seen. He has a bunch of stuffed animals which I bet not only children but adults can appreciate if they are scared of any dermatological surgery that he has to perform. I am grateful I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Ainspan, last week. I have some skin issues that could be serious. He explained everything going on. What my options are for treatment, and was great, in how comfortable he made me feel, no matter what the outcome is. I trust him. I do not trust anyone, until I know them. I spent less than 20 minutes with this guy and knew, he is the real deal. The staff are professional and friendly. I was taken care of. I felt taken care of. The waiting room is airy and light and open and I felt safe. Some kid came in after me, and got to see the doctor before me. I had read a review with someone mentioning something like that. What I experienced, was that the kid was in and out in ten minutes, and I got to spend a lot more time with the doctor, had some work done and felt there was no pressure for him to rush off. He gave me his full attention, the whole time I was there. I came in with a few different issues for him to look at. He looked at each thing and it was like bing bang bong, the stuff I didn't have to worry about he made clear. He explained everything else. He's a Zen Master at this. He didn't have to put on a show for me. I look forward to coming back, no matter what the pathology report says. I want this man to be discussing and explaining to me what is going on. This is New York. You hope to find a doctor like Ainspan, and a set up like this, especially next door to the hospital. But more so, to find an office like this. I got 45 years of serious medical issues and procedures under my belt. and have had to spend an eternity in different types of hospitals, doctor and specialists offices. I know how frustrating and annoying it is to not be taken care of, or disrespected by a doctor or their staff... especially a specialist. This was not my experience here. I thought I had done the research and made the right choice when I opted to see Dr. Ainspan for a dermatological consultation. I was asked to arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork, which I did. Then I waited, and watched as 2 other patients walked in off the street and were ushered into the back to see the Dr. ahead of me. After 30 minutes, I asked the receptionist if my appointment was indeed at the time I thought. She answered that the Dr. is "always behind schedule at this time of the day", in a very "matter-of-fact" tone. After 45 minutes, I had to leave. Would not recommend!! The office is outdated, but that's not a major priority. The weird office I met him in located at the very back of a winding hallway was very messy, with supplies stacked everywhere. It was bizarre. My appointment was at 2:30PM, was told to come in 15 min early because I was a new patient, so I did. With literally no one else in the waiting room except for me, it still took 30 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment to see Dr. Ainspan. All the while, I got to overhear the peanut gallery (AKA the 3 receptionists at the front desk). Within the 30 minutes I was waiting, they talked about other patients and mentioned their full names, talked about their own personal health and weight issues, one receptionist actually gave another receptionist a shot (maybe insulin?) in front of me, one mentioned her son's new obsession with her "boobies" - all relatively (?) harmless office talk but SO, SO INAPPROPRIATE, especially in front of a new patient. It really turned me off and made me feel uncomfortable and that transferred to my consultation with Dr. Ainspan. I came for recurring hives and Dr. Ainspan looked harder at the photo that I took a few days earlier when the rash had flared up and did not examine my skin AT ALL. AT ALL. Basically he said that since the rash was going away that there was nothing he could do because he absolutely had to see it when I had it and that I should come back when I fully have it. I came to a dermatologist so that it would do the exact opposite - not come back! He gives off a very nervous energy and had trouble stringing a sentence together without forgetting what he was going to say or stuttering. A bit uneasy and difficult to follow as a concerned patient. He was way too quick and not reassuring at all. He basically was like, "Call this number to get your blood taken and tested and then I can rule out certain factors." The best thing he did was prescribe some anti-itch cream. I completely agree with Linas G. Dr. Ainspan is an ok derm and a nice guy, however, after being his patient for many years I no longer go to his office. The front desk staff is truly horrible. Rude and nasty doesn't even cover it. It reminds me of going to the Motor Vehicle Office back in the 1980s, but worse. When I complained to Dr. Ainspan, he just shrugs it off. It's as if the staff runs the show in his office, not him. The office is pretty nasty looking too. The carpet was once so saturated with water it squished when I walked on it. Disgusting if you ask me. Not a clean looking place. Not a place I want to have incisions on my skin made. Ainspan is not the only game in town. I have found a great dermatologist since. read more

I took my 12 year old daughter to see Dr. Ainspan today, for flat mole on her face, and mole has been bother her everytime when she looked at the mirror. She want the mole to be remove, and thanks God I've found Dr. Ainspan, he is very informative, excellent knowledgable and very friendly. Another lower east side doctor wanted to charge $400 to remove the mole, but Dr. Ainspan does not recommend to remove, because it will leave a white mark on her face and told my daughter that she should wait for few year, because some lady found that the mole is attractive and sexy. Dr. Ainspan have brought confident and postive for my daughter, and my daughter was extremely happy with him. The wait time is 10 minutes. His staff is nice as well too. I highly recommend Dr. Ainspan. The reason I only gave 4 stars because the office need to be updated. read more

I've been to numerous dermatologists over the years in NYC. Dr. Ainspan is in the minority where he doesn't push his own personal skin line on you (I don't even think he has one). He's more concerned about why you are there and getting you better if there's an issue. He was extremely knowledgable, thorough and had excellent bedside manner considering I saw him for a full body mole/skin exam among other things. Not sure about those negative reviews, all I can say is he has a professional practice and if you don't show up on time, or are rude, your experience may not be the same with his team considering he has other patients scheduled. Dr Ainspan is extremely intelligent, quick to identify a solution, and great at what he does. I have been to his office time and time again and he always knows exactly what to do and how to fix issues flawlessly. He also has no problem explaining what he is doing, and why he is doing it. He recently removed a cyst from my back (ew!), my first "surgery" ever, and he gave me a teddy bear to hold in the process. I've been seeing Dr. Ainspan since 2006; I had skin cancer at a relatively young age and in that case it's quite important to have an excellent doctor for follow-up monitoring. Dr. Ainspan is thorough and provides comprehensive advice; and if the advice it too technical, he'll explain it again at a lay-person's level if necessary. His office is functional, and by no means fancy, but you're not coming here for the view or art exhibits but for the reliable, trustworthy and thorough medical expertise. Went to Dr. Ainspan a few years back to treat a reoccurring fungal infection and he made me feel extremely at ease. He communicated to me that what I had was very common and even went the extra mile to make refilling prescriptions as easy as possible with a simple phone call. Gosh, I miss this dermatologist now that I live in Los Angeles. Take my word for it, it's very hard to find a good doctor, especially a good dermatologist. My hubby is currently working in NY (we are from CA) and he discovered a painful looking mole on his side. He got worried and had me look up a dermatologist for him. I found Dr. Ainspan and based on the reviews here, I sent him there. My hubby said that the wait time was quick and Dr. Ainspan was already in the exam room when it was his turn. He said the doctor was really nice and answered all his questions. He took a biopsy and explained everything as he went along. I have been to Dr. Ainspan for two skin cancer problems and I have to say he is absolutely thorough and the surgery results after are almost unoticeable. He is knowledgable and quick to identify a problem. I wish all medical doctors were on par to his skill and ability..unfortunately..not. Dr. Ainspan is thorough, smart, funny and polite. He is quick to check every mole, and made me feel comfortable. He is not an alarmist, trying to remove every growth or bump for money. In fact, I admire him for continuing to teach dermatology at Beth Israel. Not everyone is that dedicated. Most move right into cosmetic dermatology of fillers and Botox for the big bucks. In my search for a dermatologist that accepts Medicaid (HealthFirst) in Lower Manhattan, I found Dr. Ainspan. I had a skin lesion that's been bothering me for some months and he was able to remove it skillfully and painlessly - a week later, it's almost completely healed. I've seen Dr Ainspan a couple of times - he's nice & his service is good. But the waiting time in his office is ridiculous. I showed up five minutes early today for an 11:45am appointment, and 15 minutes later (only after hearing other patients in the waiting room ask the receptionist when they would finally be seen), did it prompt me to ask how far behind he was running. She told me another 30 minutes (eg he was running at least 45mins behind schedule). I asked why they couldn't have called to tell patients he was running behind and she just shrugged, clearly not giving a hoot about wasting peoples' time. I had another meeting so couldn't wait around for my appointment - overall, an enormous waste of my time. read more

This guy is the best. I was bumpier before I met you, sir! The only thing knocking him down a star is the fact that your appointment will routinely start 40 minutes after you're scheduled. I learned to adjust and arrive later. But I guess this kind of backlog is what can happen when you're good at what you do. read more

I cant say enough good about this place. Dr. Ainspan doesn't waste time, he is fast and at the same time very meticulous, a perfectionist- also very nice and pleasant to work with. DON'T GO. the receptionist was awful. I had a 1pm appointment and I arrived at 109pm. she yelled "you are late" like I was her kid. I replied "yes". then she tried to get me to fill out paperwork after saying that she wasn't sure he could see me. I asked her to find out before I did so. She made me wait until 130pm and then told me that he would see me at 245pm. FOR 9 MINUTES LATE. either he is a huge baby and she walks all over him or he is a terrible doctor who turns away real patients with real skin issues just because they aren't paying out of pocket for botox. maybe he really really needs a good long lunch break. there was ONE other patients name listed on the walk in list for 1pm and NO ONE in the waiting room. must have been SUPER BUSY. also Cigna called them that morning to get codes for what I wanted done (which was eczema and a cancer screening) and they said the person who has the codes wasn't in that day. so now there is a code keeper! they probably needed to keep their options open so they could up charge the insurance company. due to their rude nature I WOULDNT EVEN GO HERE IF I LIVED UPSTAIRS AND THEY WERE THE LAST DERMS IN NYC. I have 5 family members in medicine including 2 surgeons who both said they would never turn someone away for 9 minutes and only in NYC. read more

I was referred to Dr. Ainspan by my primary care physician. My first visit was with him today. I'm pleased that I was referred to him. He listened carefully to my explanation of the current problem, asking probative questions where appropriate. His examination was quite thorough. I am confident that he is employing a sound plan to help me, which he explained in great technical detail in a way that a lay person can understand.
