Our stay at No Vacancy was unfortunately the most frustrating and poorly managed travel experience we had on our cross country drive. The property operates on a self-check-in system, which would be acceptable if the instructions were clear and the support was competent. We were traveling cross-country from Los Angeles to North Carolina in a 10-foot U-Haul and called ahead around 10:30 p.m. to ask about parking. The man who answered was distracted, dismissive, and clearly uninterested in helping. He quickly texted a generic message recommending street parking or a nearby lot. When the lot turned out to have low clearance for our truck, we called back for alternatives, and his response was, "I don't know, Google it." When we arrived, we encountered extremely confusing and conflicting signage inside the building. The elevator included a large sign stating "Elevator 1 ride every five minutes" and directing guests to take the stairs through a nearby door. There was also a prominent "No Vacancy Floor 3" sign inside of the elevator, which made it unclear what level we were on. After struggling to access the room, we called for assistance a third time. The man on the phone was again curt and unhelpful, repeating "you're already on the third floor" instead of actually assisting. After several minutes of this, I said calmly but firmly that I was out of patience. He responded by telling me to "calm down." I replied, admittedly using the word "fuck" and asked him not to patronize me and to simply explain how to access the room. We then hung up and figured it out ourselves. Within minutes, he began sending a series of increasingly accusatory text messages blaming us for "not reading the instructions" and demanding a $125 "refundable security deposit" via an unfamiliar link, something never disclosed on Booking.com or in any of the pre-arrival information. The language of the text ("your stay will be deactivated within 1 or 2 if not paid") was unprofessional and vaguely threatening. The timing of the message, immediately following our call, made it appear retaliatory. The listing claims the room "sleeps three," but it includes only a king bed, a narrow twin Murphy bed, and a small leather sofa. This worked out ok for us but would be unsuitable for most groups of three. Not the end of the world but worth noting. The bigger issue was that the bathroom door is fully transparent glass, offering no privacy whatsoever. We were two coworkers sharing the space, this was extremely uncomfortable. The entire experience suggested a complete lack of hospitality, professionalism, or basic guest care. Between the confusing self-check-in, dismissive communication, unsolicited payment demands, and intrusive follow-up messages, I cannot recommend this property to anyone seeking a comfortable, simple or respectful lodging experience. read more

No Vacancy has a bit of a reputation as an elusive, sophisticated, staycation spot in KC. With minimal advertising, and signage, it's been able to maintain an element of mystique in the city and whenever I catch wind of someone I know staying here they always reminisce on it simply gushing with good things to say. All of this being said, when my brother in law got married and rented the space out for the bridal party (of which my husband was a part of) I literally JUMPED at the opportunity to stay for a night and see what all the fuss was about. So I knew in general where No Vacancy was located but couldn't recall any signage on the street so into Maps on my phone the address went and I was on my way. Upon pulling up I was struck by the Wes Anderson nature of this whole adventure. There is a very quant striped anning that simply reads "No Vacancy" - it would be very easy to miss if you weren't looking - but I was, and so upon noticing it I entered my code and in I went. Once you walk in, it's quiet and you are faced with an elevator so in you go. No Vacancy is on the third floor and upon entry it's literally like walking into a catalogue that showcases homes from the mid-century in Palm Springs. My family had rented the whole space so we found our room and settled in, but if you rent one room you simply find yours and your code will give you access. The shared spaces are nothing short of perfectly curated, all gorgeous and Instagram ready. The outdoor space is really the most perfect place though, with wonderful lighting, a fantastic mural, and nice seating, it really makes for a surprisingly serene getaway in the heart of the city. As for the beds and the shower? All comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay 100%. Only thing I'd say is if you have small children this might not be the stay for you as there are loads of breakable decor and I kept thinking how glad I was that we were here solo without our three year old as it's really not the most child friendly environment. My girlfriend surprised me with an absolutely perfect staycation at No Vacancy recently, and I would give it 10 stars if I could. We used to stand in the alley during First Fridays and stare wistfully up st the beautiful plants and perfectly curated furniture in each room, and I can say the experience lived up to my high expectations. The common spaces and room were very clean. Even the claw foot tub in our room was pristine. The vibes are perfectly curated with vintage furniture and unique art and some of the biggest and longest plants you've ever seen in your life. All the guests were hanging out and having a good time in the common spaces at night, making use of the fire pit and the communal glassware. There's even a bar that serves drinks sometimes in the main common space. Everyone was super respectful, and there wasn't too much noise late at night. Great vibes from the other guests. You can also rent out the whole hotel and outdoor space for events, which sounds awesome but probably expensive. Access is controlled with a keypad and codes, so you don't have to worry about losing your key to the exterior or your room door. There is not a designated parking lot at the hotel. They recommend renting a spot at a garage in Wyandotte, but if you're just there on the weekend, there is always the free street parking. This is a quieter section of crossroads on a regular weekend, so we didn't struggling finding a spot. It's definitely expensive to stay here, and they stay booked a busy. I am forever in my girlfriend's debt for this beautiful staycation. PS According to the guest book, there have been several engagements and first "I love you"s in Room 6, so if you're trying to make something happen, get the magic of room 6 on your side. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place- it is the perfect place for a couple's getaway. Amazing location right on the streetcar route. The cutest spot and cutest rooms, we have stayed here several times and everything is perfect, adorable setup, and the rooms have the little details that matter! After months of walking down a crossroads alley staring longingly up at a beautiful courtyard on the 3rd floor, I finally booked a little staycation to stay overnight at No Vacancy! A week later I'm still dreaming about it. Every aspect of the stay is beautifully curated between the rooms and the lounge and the courtyard. The decor is so cute and we were obsessed with all the massive plants! The lounge was super fun to hang out in, if it were a bit warmer we would have sat out in the courtyard for sure. There were lots of guests mingling at night which was a super fun and friendly vibe. Loved the no contact check in, super easy. All of the rooms looked so cute online - loved the vintage clawfoot tub in ours! Definitely a pricier hotel option but if you're looking to splurge for a staycation or coming in from out of town, definitely check No Vacancy out! read more

I stayed in studio 4 earlier this month and loved it! There were 3 girls total and the queen bed and murphy twin bed and living room size worked well for us. The whole room was really cute, such a great ambiance and aesthetic! It was so well curated. We liked that there was a living room with 2 couches so we could hang out/get ready there. The luggage rack and bench by the foot of the queen bed was also nice so that we had somewhere to put 3 carry on suitcases. The common areas were also cute and it was nice that there was a fridge and basic kitchen stuff there (we needed a wine opener one night). We loved the le labo bath products. We also loved the matchbooks, and it was nice that there was a water cannister with cups in the hallway; nice touches! There were only 2 towels in our room for us 3, but the hotel staff was very prompt via text and brought us a 3rd towel quickly. We also loved the neighborhood as it was close walking distance to bars and restaurants. We also felt safe. Some other suggestions: the exhaust fan in the bathroom is connected to the main bathroom light and is very loud so it made it very noisy when we only needed the light on. The skylight in living room brings in a lot of light in the morning so it would be nice to have a curtain separating the queen bed alcove from the living area so it doesn't get too bright. Not great that the bathroom door is clear even though it is not truly see through, lol. Also, it would be nice if our room itself had a mini fridge (for leftovers, snacks, etc). We stayed here 2 years ago and it was wonderful. Last night's attempt at sleep, over the rave music booming from the bar downstairs as well as the guests stomping like they were marching in gusteppe parades, was unbearable. For the price point, you do not get relaxation. I'm certain we won't receive a refund, due to the pretentious nature of this establishment. This room is basically for IG influencers to pretend they are living the posh life, but in actuality far from it. Last time we were here there was a cute little bar on the same floor as the rooms. Now there is a fully functioning bar, open to the public, just below where you "sleep". Good luck to all who choose to stay here, it's not what it used to be. read more

If you want to stay here for insta-perfect pictures- that you will most certainly get. If you would like comfort and reliable service - you're better off at the crossroads. The AC/fan units were down for essentially the duration of our stay in hot/humid late spring. This was a known issue experienced by other guests and was not mentioned when we reported it again. Turns out you can't just turn off and turn on your AC system and hope it works again (their one and only fix for the problem). Our first room was 83 deg so they moved us to another- not much better. It was late and we were tired so we just tried to make the best of it. Until we were woken up after 1AM by another guest knocking loudly on our door to ask if our AC was also out, and he had not been able to reach anyone to fix it or discuss it. Not restful, relaxing, or romantic for an anniversary weekend away. When we requested a refund the communication was drawn out, and when they offered a full refund for rent and taxes- this turns out to be less than half of what we paid (the rest is fees??) Not worth the pretty pictures. Do not recommend this "boutique" hostel type experience. read more

We stayed here for one night for my husbands 40th birthday week. Easy guest access, great communication from their property manager and they even bent their rules some to accommodate some birthday festivities with the some friends! The decor was very boho, but also very breezy/tropical. Our studio was absolutely beautiful with the high ceilings, exposed brick and wispy white curtains. We had studio number 3. This included an amazing view, comfortable king sized bed, a small sitting area and a GREAT shower in the bathroom. The only thing was that the listing said that a kitchenette was a part of the room, but there was not one glass for water and no coffee pot. These are the first two things I think of when I hear "kitchenette" there was a small sink and a tiny kettle, but that was it. All necessities were in the lounge area down the hall, which didn't take us long to find. The lounge area was set up perfectly. Plants everywhere, swinging chairs, tables and ample, comfortable seating that wrapped around the room. There was also a great outdoor space! I will be recommending this spot to any friend who comes into town! read more

I was really excited to stay here because the pictures of this hotel looked so cool. The concept of no tv's in the rooms was very neat, as well as being a smaller hotel of only 8 rooms. It definitely looks cooler online than it really is. The furniture was a bit worn and dirty. There was dirt stuck to the couch in my room. The shower had hair splattered all over the walls. It was extremely loud, with 60s music blasting until 10 pm. You could hear people talking In the hallways, My room was poorly lit, which made it hard to get ready in the morning because I could hardly see myself in the mirror. This place has a great location, however, with plenty of restaurants and things to do near by. It's also right off the interstate. I wouldn't necessarily stay here again, but there have been worse places to stay. The concept was great but the execution was lacking. read more
